Getting a (lot of) writing buddy is the tip that has helped me the most! Of course, in the end we need to type our own words on the page, but writing doesn't have to be a solitary activity. Having buddies definitely makes it funnier, more enjoyable and easier :) It's also best way to get motivated if you ask me! And damn, that cake thing is such a good idea! I love wrighting so much I'm very passionate about it and pour my heart and soul into my wrighting and my story's go so much deeper then just the words on the page
So true! I find myself giving me time to write at random times of the day lol. I'm just obsessed. I don't track my progress... but I track my ideas of that makes sense... When I run out of ideas then I know I added all my previous ideas into my wip
These are so fun! We do ice cream for milestones in our family. And we celebrate the little things, and I feel like those are going to be the big things they (children) remember.
Have started to write my first book. Does help that for the past three years I would make up this story to tell me son just before he went to sleep. Funny how making the story up (with the aid of many books films tv shows etc) that you fall in love with the characters you created and the world they lived in. It is definitely hard writing a story but it is something I know I want to do.
I really want to start to write a book this summer, but I have so many ideas, and some wouldn't fit in the same little universe thingy. Like an example would be; I have an idea of a more fantasy world, there is death, morally gray characters, different creatures coming together only for it to fail and for them to cry in sadness, wholesomeness, and a lot of other things, but then I have an idea of a post-apocalyptic kinda futuristic world where there is also death, but also, robots, protagonist turned antagonist thingy, and other stuff. I have lots of other ideas, (all suprisingly... containing death...) I even have so much more ideas for the examples I already said. The hardest part so far (for me atleast) is choosing an idea (or a mixture of a few) and then start to do the rest of the things.
Excellent list, which inspired me to put an end date on this damn WIP! I also want to do more productive breaks as well, which is a great way of exercising. Thanks for the video!
I have loved to write most of my life and I want to write a book. I also don't know where to start. This video helped me some but I still have writers block
I'll be doing a series throughout October explaining different parts of writing like characters, plot, world building and more! And how to actually and realistically start thinking about those things so that you can write a book!
I started writing a book 2 years ago, which turned into a tabletop RPG because I wanted to see real people's reactions to the plot before writing a book. A dozen people got to experience the story and they loved it. They all said it was brilliant and I want to share this story with more people but I'm not sure where to start. I have a scripted whiteboard of the world itself but I don't want to start writing it until I know it's great. I'm also not the greatest at small talk. I have character development, world-building, details and such. But I struggle with the smaller things. Small conversations. I don't understand people and it shows in my projects. When I ran this with my friends the characters almost never had a lengthy or deep conversation with an NPC, almost all of the character story was told by means of ACTION, not DIALOG. How could I get better at this? I'm also ... jumpy. I hop between what interests me at the time, sticking to anything is difficult. It's part of what makes me creative but it's also the bane to finishing anything. What can you suggest. I have a full plot.
I jump around too! One thing you could try is if you are trying to work on one project, you could use the "jumpy feeling" as a reward for working on one project. Like do 500 words in the project you want to work towards finishing, then reward yourself with working on the project you want to on that day after you're done. Bribing works!
Hello, i have a question. When you say "tracking progress" am i supposed to count every single word that i wrote that day ? If so, don't you ever get tired when you do it ?
@@SaraLubratt oh, you write digitally! 😅 All this time I thought it it was handwritten! Thank you for the tip and I'll hope I'll be brave enough to start writing💕
Do you have a suggestion for the absolute beginner who knows nothing about writing? I have a story in mind but I only have the summary of it. I don't know how to lay everything down with details, and turn it into an interesting book. But I keep having this itchy feeling to write it and it won't stop, but I'm clueless to write.
First of all, that's amazing! Congratulations on your idea and your itch to write! Secondly, I have a series planned that will be released throughout October that will be tips on how to actually start writing a book and the different aspects of it!
I need to work on deadlines and rewards for reaching certain milestones. I have plans but at the moment it is "one day I will" which means that nothing really gets done.
I totally get that. This past year was a great reminder though that we also need to be patient with ourselves. If it is a passion, it will get done eventually and we need to be nice to ourselves in the process :)
This "one day I will" has been there for the last couple of years and in a way writing the first draft is the easy part. It is so easy to then put it aside and work on something else and forget. It's finding the belief in yourself to keep going with editing and letting others read your work.
I don't think that setting a word goal monthly will make a book writing process better. It can make it faster, but I suggest writing when you have inspiration. I don't know about you, but if I set a limit or a goal, I tend to force myself one day and then the other day I will do nothing.
Hey I’d like to ask do you feel equally psyched and passionate about everyone of your book projects or is it normal to be more passionate about one than the other?
Great question! I often get ebbs and flows of excitement about projects. I try to primarily stick to the one that I have the fullest idea for until it's done but when I'm not feeling it, I do work on other projects. When choosing a new project it's much harder to decide what to work on
I like to write one chapter and then revise that chapter, then I upload that chapter to a website I use, so then I can get feedback about it and have people read my story without it having to be done.
I have written the first draft of my biography book about seven years ago. I forgot about it because I was so busy with work. Sadly, I became unemployed in the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic that we are experiencing. I stayed at home and still staying at home searching for an avenue to earn online. I ended up proofreading my draft and rewriting the whole story. I submitted the draft for editing late last year and still waiting for the first edited version.
Don't make it any longer than it needs to be! You can look up average word counts for the genre you write in. A little shorter than average is almost never a bad thing :)
Not really 😂. I normally hear a song and think OH THAT WOULD TOTALLY FIT ___ SCENE! And then I listen to the suggested songs off of that one and start to build a playlist like that
I live in Africa in a French speaking country, I have written 3 books but I haven't published any of them. I have no editor and no credit card. I use Pure writer app one day when I leave this country I will publish them.
Depends on the situation! I’ve had friends so far so beta reading for me, but I might add a few paid betas in the future. And for editors, if you are traditional publishing, no, but if you are self publishing, yes
I’m writing my own book about color guard and now I’m kind of sad because I like marching band better and I feel like I should’ve made it about that ):
The thing is, I want to write my book, I really do. But my writing is the one thing that my english teacher always has something bad to say on. I love my story and I think it could go far, but I dont want my book to sound like a childish fanfiction
@@SaraLubratt do you think having someone edit and review my book would be better? My english teacher could help perhaps. The story is kind of my baby so I want to make sure it's perfect but I am ✨scared✨
Have you thought about plotting after how much you like JK Rowling's technique? I know you used it after knowing your story, I'm interested how doing that would affect your mindset and the words produced. I'm a chronic over-plotter and have struggled finishing in the past, so I'm doing a current manuscript pantsing, it's weird but interesting
When I started drafting a new story in July I did try to use the Save The Cat outlining concept: ua-cam.com/video/p3v-5r-3gWc/v-deo.html which went interestingly but I have not been in a position to plot again other than the videos I've made on it (the two JKR videos and the Save The Cat)

Woah this is awesome!! It's so in depth! Congratulations on figuring out a writing process that works well for you!!
@@SaraLubratt thank you so much for addressing 😊.
Hello I wrote my two books on notebook paper first and Now I’m doing my research on how to use Microsoft word now and put it in the right order.
That's so exciting!!
I love wrighting so much I'm very passionate about it and pour my heart and soul into my wrighting and my story's go so much deeper then just the words on the page
That's awesome!
this is such an inspiring video that I want to go write right now, even though I just wrote 1k!
That's amazing Angelina! But thank you!! You can write all the words today!
So true! I find myself giving me time to write at random times of the day lol. I'm just obsessed. I don't track my progress... but I track my ideas of that makes sense... When I run out of ideas then I know I added all my previous ideas into my wip
That totally makes sense! That's awesome Charliee!
Omg those quotes about a first draft were so helpful. Thank you! Great start to the new year!
Thank you!!
i decided today that i wanted to start writing seriously so this is helping me out a lot !
Yay!! Congratulations, that's huge!
I’m very young, yet I’m currently making a draft for a fantasy/ adventure novel and I’m hoping to publish it at some point!
These are so fun! We do ice cream for milestones in our family. And we celebrate the little things, and I feel like those are going to be the big things they (children) remember.
That's so fun Anna! I totally remember the little milestone celebrations from growing up so I think the kids are going to think back on that fondly :)
That's awesome!!
@@SaraLubratt thank you. Managed to squeeze in time to write another chapter. Look forward to the day it can be shared and shredded! 😂
Those sound like some great concepts though!
Great tips for beginners like myself 😊
Thanks!
You're awesome Sara! Thank you
Thanks!
Thank you for this wonderful tips, gonna resume writing soon!! 🥰
Yay! Good luck and happy writing!
Excellent list, which inspired me to put an end date on this damn WIP! I also want to do more productive breaks as well, which is a great way of exercising. Thanks for the video!
Thanks D! I'm glad you found it inspiring! Happy writing!
I wrote about a 100 pages,but I’m so scared if I don’t know how to draw it🤷🏻♀️💔
(sorry about my English, I’m working on it)😂
100 pages is awesome!
Im so loving your videos!! you are so inspiring!
Yay! I'm so glad!!
I have loved to write most of my life and I want to write a book. I also don't know where to start. This video helped me some but I still have writers block
I'll be doing a series throughout October explaining different parts of writing like characters, plot, world building and more! And how to actually and realistically start thinking about those things so that you can write a book!
It seems 2022 is MY year. I'm slamming out my newest project. It's gonna be a novel. I can taste it!
That's so exciting!!
That’s great 😃 you can start your book writing journey today all you need to do is to view my channel and send me a text for assistance
I just look at the word count at the beginning of the day and at the end! I don't count every individual word myself
@@SaraLubratt oh, you write digitally! 😅 All this time I thought it it was handwritten! Thank you for the tip and I'll hope I'll be brave enough to start writing💕
Thanks Sarah for recommending me this video it's very helpful!💖
Glad you liked it! I'll likely make some more in the future!

Loved this video! 🙌🏽
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much with the help of this video I wrote my own book thank you so much
Exciting! Goodluck!
I don't think that setting a word goal monthly will make a book writing process better. It can make it faster, but I suggest writing when you have inspiration. I don't know about you, but if I set a limit or a goal, I tend to force myself one day and then the other day I will do nothing.
It works for some people, and doesn't work for others. Great recommendation!
I searched this up because I wanted to write a story on my phone notes lol. I'm just bored hehe, anyways thank you for your help!
That's so fun! Good luck and happy writing!
This is such a good video for a debutant.
Thanks!
Thank you that really means a lot
No problem!
That sounds great!
Nicely done! That's awesome!
@@SaraLubratt Madam, Thank you and hope I will learn about writing in a more professional manner in videos of your UA-cam channel
I just love your videos. ^_^
Thank you Sanja!
My novels plot is pretty simple and I really don't know how I'm going to stretch it out to 300-400 or 100,000 words. Any tips.
Don't make it any longer than it needs to be! You can look up average word counts for the genre you write in. A little shorter than average is almost never a bad thing :)
@@SaraLubratt Thanks!
**awkwardly watches the video for the first time in 2022**
Lol it's all good! This video is still doing better than my recommendations for writing a book in 2022 video 😂
Can't stop looking at the towels in the basket. What are they for?!
Lmao it's my parents house and they have a peloton just off screen so that's what the towels are for 😂
i see people making playlists for projects a lot! Do you have any method to how you do it?
Not really 😂. I normally hear a song and think OH THAT WOULD TOTALLY FIT ___ SCENE! And then I listen to the suggested songs off of that one and start to build a playlist like that
@@SaraLubratt that’s a good start! I struggle with it so anything is helpful lmao
@@sailor.britters Oh good!
I don’t really do outlines I just don’t do well with that I just kinda think and write it all out and the edit 😅

I live in Africa in a French speaking country, I have written 3 books but I haven't published any of them. I have no editor and no credit card. I use Pure writer app one day when I leave this country I will publish them.
That's awesome that you have 3 books written!!
"You kind of just have to chase down what you want with a machete." Well said
Do I need a mackbook to write a book?
Of course not! You can write a book by hand or on your phone, or on any computer, or on a typewriter, or however you choose to write a book!
WritingPal is free app for writing on iPhone and iPad
Do you guys make Pinterest boards? If so could I follow? I love those so much 👉👈
I do make Pinterest boards, but I currently keep mine on private but this is a fun idea to make them public!

Hey so writing a book has been living in my mind rent free since 2020,so I have a question,is a laptop important for writing a book, and also ilysm💕

😂 I should have included a glossary!
Do you pay beta readers? Or just editors?
Depends on the situation! I’ve had friends so far so beta reading for me, but I might add a few paid betas in the future. And for editors, if you are traditional publishing, no, but if you are self publishing, yes
Thank you
Hope it helps!
Would be great to see a list. Even greater if timestamped.
I understand that but then people would just look at the list and not watch the video!

You can always change it!!
can anyone in the comments guess what age I read acotar at?
12?
The thing is, I want to write my book, I really do. But my writing is the one thing that my english teacher always has something bad to say on. I love my story and I think it could go far, but I dont want my book to sound like a childish fanfiction
Practice and editing will get you there!

But after this month you'll be done with the exams!!
@@SaraLubratt Yesss, I hope I can actually get something done then :)
Yeah I'm def gonna watch your channel in reverse order so you don't have to keep explaining the plot to me.
Thanks for the link!
