@@Whoisthis1111 You seem rather hardcore about war. In fact, you are dying to pick a fight with China. May I politely ask you in what capacity to decide that is what is a red line, and what consequences that will follow if China step over it?
My advice to you is simple. Don't big note yourself if you don't know what your capability is, and most important, how are you going to back up your red line threat?
Your Nobel Peace Prize winner Barack Obama said of a red line in Syria. Nothing happened. Don't make a threat which you couldn't enforced.

As soon as there is a Chinese base in the Solomon’s, our sovereignty and our national security is under attack. China has already bought of the Solomon’s government. But if the base houses the Chinese military, it’s a redline. Especially considering the Solomon Islands gov has said there won’t be one. It would essentially be considered an ally of the Solomon’s. The action most likely as a result of a Chinese base in the Solomon’s would be a barrage of cyber attacks (just like China does to us) and an increased US presence in the area. I’d also suspect that australia would make a similar move by establishing a military presence in another pacific nation (ofc with an agreement with that nation’s gov). I’d also suspect military spending to increase significantly in order to start proliferation of defensive weapons and an iron dome type defence system along with offensive weapons and an increased recruitment strategy.

You need to make a few distinctions
    1) Shanghainese and Taishanese as well as the vast majority of the Han dialects, are in between a dialect and language, they use Chinese characters and is simply a result of having Logograms as languages where how you pronounce the character doesn't affect how you spell it, unlike English where the spelling and pronunciation is closely linked.
So they are an oddity of history, when people weren't socially mobile and stayed in one area, as time went on how things are pronounced evolved.
It's an reflection of the changes in a society, this is something that can't be stopped.
    2) Most languages of ethnic minorities are different languages, so they are not just dialect, which makes them easier to preserve, since they have a different written language, And the Chinese government has a dual language policy for schools in areas with predominant ethnic minorities.
Also 18:32 that video was in Mongolia, NOT inner Mongolia. and they somehow felt the need to disparage China, when Mongolians in China are the ONLY Mongolians in the world that uses their traditional script, whereas Mongolians in Mongolia uses the Cyrillic Alphabet. So it's a bit rich for them to be worried about Mongolian language in China where it's better preserved.
And the unrest was a weird one, the education curriculum only made kids in primary schools in Inner Mongolia to learn the Core subjects in Mandarin ONE YEAR earlier than they had.
It didn't take out any Mongolian classes. So there is certain foreign "NGOs" that fanned the flame and made a storm out of a teacup.
    3) Manchu language being extinct was a century long process, even the last emperor Puyi didn't know much Manchurian, and spoke with a heavy Beijing Mandarin accent. He was a witness at the Far East Tribunal and spoke on the podium, go watch it for yourselves.
Manchu lost their language because most of them integrated into the Han ethnicity, even the Imperial family of the Qing Dynasty changed their Manchu last name Aisin-Gioro into Han family names of Jin or Zhao

”how you pronounce the character doesn't affect how you spell it," If you are spelling it using the standard English alphabet then you need to be able to show intonations. Such as Ma Up, Ma Down, Ma flowing up, Ma Flowing up and down...I think you know what I mean. The characters in Japanese all have sounds from China depending on the time they were borrowed and also a sound related to the native language of Japanese used when incorporated. Thus, Japanese is a bear as well, especially when stringing characters together unless used separately with the indigenous alphabet, alphabet for foreign borrowed words mixed with characters, or the Roman alphabet.

    About spoken official language...
Australia is one of the major critics of China's attempt to introduce Mandarin to Xinjiang, calling it cultural genocide. Yes, the word "genocide" is being thrown around freely. There was the "genocidal" winter Olympics not too long ago. The ABC is one of the major critic of this Chinese Mandarin initiative. Now this program has basically answered the question why China is doing so. A large country, with multi-lingual ethnic groups, being able to understand and to communicate between them is not only useful, but critical. I have written many times over the ABC's persistent criticism of China over Mandarin issues. I used English as an example. Australia is trying to ensure that people in Australia could at least able to master a "functional" English. New migrants without English skill are helped by volunteers and community groups to learn English. I will post the question I asked many time before..
"Why is it a big issue for the Uighurs to learn Mandarin, and not so for Australian migrants to learn English?"
This "China Today" is very much a misleading title. Why? For a start, how is it possible to have in-depth analysis of China when there is no Australian reporters there? The last reporter Bill Birtles took off in a hurry as he was requested to help with an ongoing investigation on espionage. Now this program is basically skimming off second and third hand news and innuendos from WeiBo or WhatsChat about people are starving, and people were forcibly taken away for refusing to obey isolation restrictions. I thought Australia has similar unpleasant scenes when people had to be handcuffed for being a pain in the ass.
Frankly, "China Today" is a bit like "Entertainment Tonight" when Hollywood showcase the shallow and cheap aspects of human nature. It is my belief that China is more than just COVID lock down and starving people shouting from the apartment blocks. I believe that there are the beautiful tourist spots, the scientific discovery, the wonderful customs of ethnic groups, etc. A few ex-Chinese who happened to be bi-lingual, taking "what is trending" from Chinese chat groups is hardly authentic and informative.
However, if Stan Grant meant to present it as light entertainment with superficial values, then he is definitely on the right track. If that is his charter, then may be it should be re-titled "China Entertainment Today".

Genocide refers to the CCP forcing the Uighur muslims into “concentration camps” and forcing their sterilisation and brainwashing. If it was just about them learning mandarin, then yes, I would agree with your statement, but it’s not just that. It’s the forceful imprisonment of anyone that is a Uighur Muslim to convert them and to indoctrinate them.
You also state that the News coming out of China has been about people starving and dying from covid, but that’s what the news did when India was going through its deadly 2nd wave. They showed the lowest of the low. Same with Britain, same with the US, same with every other nation.
Furthermore, you neglect to mention that there are other nations which don’t have a nationalised language. Some African countries, Afghanistan and india are examples where some people speak different languages and don’t speak one language as a nation.
You also state they don’t show tourism in China, what are you trying to get at here? They don’t show them for any other country mate. Not the US, not Britain, not France, not Germany, not Canada, not Russia, Not India, not New Zealand, I think you get the point.
It’s good enough to call out a show for misinformation and for taking one side, but you also have to take into account their reporting as a whole. This is all information that the public should know.
I don’t see you complaining about the Chinese defence guy in the beginning defending his gov’s actions and saying there will be no military presence in the Solomon’s because it doesn’t look to power projection when there is literal evidence of power projection plays by China with their militarisation of the South China Sea. I don’t see you condemning the mass deaths the gov has hidden from early on in the pandemic, I don’t see you condemning the continued oppression of the Uighur muslims and I don’t see you pointing out obvious political interference in the Solomon’s with the bribes the Chinese government has made with the political establishment in this comment.

Yeah, this script is actually a comedy but the west is politicizing it. If you're from the Philippines, you will have the same comedy regarding dialects from different provinces. And the Philippines has decided on Pilipino as the national language, and as of now, there is no sign or concern of endangering the different dialects. Using the word "endanger" is rather dirty, catering to the western mindset which is the product of their own brutal suppression of the culture of their helpless natives.
Regarding the use of Mandarin, one of the reasons for it to be chosen is its perfect equivalent to the WRITTEN language. Many dialects have no MEANINGFUL equivalent in the written form. May I warn the Asian participants here that this program is descretly anti-Chinese and aim to disinform and ridicule. I don't know where you receive your EDUCATION. By education, I mean the real thing. Not only to China, but you shouldnt relentlessly do this kind of dirty tricks to any nation. Examine your conscience, young people! You will have your rude awakening that you're not white. Don't profess your innocent. Asians know this and are very familiar with this kind of language/dialect situation in many, at least Asian countries, and nobody is having problem about this. Except now China. Which is being created by the west. Ok if you're dying to be white, but don't contribute to harmful action.

Relations between the US and China are at a low point. Former US President Donald Trump aggravated the situation, but Chinese representatives, including Chinese news media outlets, have also aggravated the situation by their vindictiveness towards the US. We should all be doing what we can to support rapprochement between China and the US, and between China and the West, rather than division. If globalization is what China truly strives for, it can only be achieved through good-will.

Now, the Australian PM is threatening Solomon Islands by invasion. I must let the PM of Australia know that his government has the worst foreign policy ever. "Is it a good policy that you want to invade the Solomon Islands?". The whole truth is, invading the Solomon Islands means you are asking for war between worlds super powers down to Australia's shores.

The first emporer developed Mandarin to unite China as one Country. Japanese simplified Mandarin to develop Japanese language as we know today. I have been to China many times and have only once heard another person spoke a dialect Hakka. Singapore some 40 years ago had a policy to encourage everyone to speak Mandarin. Fast forward ...now they want the citizens to get back to their dialect. Personally I think most Chinese will speak whatever at home or with friends . My family speaks English when we get together even though we should be speaking our mother tongue.
