Further to my earlier comment, I would not call my goalie - or The Turtle- a Subbuteo goalkeeper. They are Sport Table Football goalkeepers. As approved by FISTF - the Federation of International Sports Table Football. Nobiody is stopping anyone doing as they please, and what they enjoy. I love traditional subbuteo, and the modern game of sport table football.
The key thing in the rules is the verb "symbolise" when applied to a human body. Yes, the Turtle one does just that, & those who wish can use them for FISTF games. I prefer a more anthropormorphic goalie - with a red shirt (did anyone see that study that said red-shirted keepers concede fewer penalties?), tho' I concede pretty much every shot sent my way!
If anything this is probably the part of the game that best exemplifies the divide between Subbuteo and Sports Table Football. Frankly I think Subbuteo should continue to embrace the classic human-looking keepers, but I do see the value of having the big units kept in the competitive game. If the two sides were to come to any sort of compromise, I think the main thing to change would be to make the big boys resemble humans more accurately, even if they do stay a tad bigger than the classics.
The bigger goalies will aid solo play. I recall Subbuteo Monthly did a feature on solo play goalies. I imagine the FISTF body analysed the total goals scored and wanted to keep the scores more realistic with real football?
Wasn't FISTF that designed them, was players who sure an idea and ran with it :0)

Holding the massive keeper off the ground on a long stick, sideways. always considered this nonsense (as a kid), but I can understand that when you get to elite levels, those guys need to make things more difficult, otherwise the games would have basketball scores! If you are just a hobby/fun player, the normal keepers are good enough, but the really good players need different stuff.
I was ok with moving to flat based players, they move better than the traditional heavyweights on the wibbly-wobbly bases. What I'm not very keen on player-wise is those that are just uniform single-colour plastic (like the pink ones you have) - what club do they play for? I think the goal-keeper should be to the same scale as the players - the metal keeper and the orange one are not to the same scale - the orange one is even wider than the metal one and is the strangest representation of a human figure I've ever seen. That said, I do like those keepers that bad-boy boxes make - but they are purely designed for the solo-game and to make it harder to score than if you just had a non-moving keeper on a rod (because you can't control the keeper and shoot at the same time). Subbuteo was meant to be a representation of real-football on a table top, if that was the case, the metal and orange goalies would both be like 8ft freaks of nature in real terms, and about 3 ft wide. I thought the metal keeper was introduced because sometimes the plastic ones snapped if there was a hard shot (though i've never actually seen that happen), but as stated above, they should be the to the same scale as the players. I think the game now is so far away from the one that Peter Adolph designed, and that's kind of sad.
@@SubbuteoCollector I don't see any of the rule changes introduced by FISTF as having enhanced the game, whatsoever, in fact they have detracted from it. Which team, in real football, lines up with a defensive line of 8 players? Which team has players with purple skins?
I ll be honest. I dont like them but they follow the rules according our understanding from the FISTF board. Now, I honestly think they don’t provide a huge advantage compared to the older Cats (and my custom cats look better too!!)
I play Solo and use large painted custom figures stuck on to perspex bases. So they look Human and not blobs of plastic. Without the base they fit the rules, but I'm playing Solo Table Soccer not Subbuteo. Large keepers need to LOOK Human, however you play IMO. 👍
Keepers are fine. With the original keepers, you'd end up having rugby score matches. With flatter bases and quicker pitches, it has resulted in more shots being taken each game. The modern fistf game is not really much of a real representation of football. It's a tactical, strategic game in its own right. Classic subbuteo is a toy for kids or grown men who like to collect.
COMPLETELY WRONG CRITIC I DIDN'T EVEN FINISH THE VIDEO. THE BIG GOALKEEPER IS NOT FOR THE OLD SUBBUTEO BUT FOR THE TABLE FOOTBALL, IT IS SO BIG BECAUSE THE TABLE FOOTBALL BASES LIFT THE BALL 1000 TIMES HIGHER THAN THE OLD SUBBUTEO ONES, THE GOALS ARE MADE OF IRON AND IF PLASTIC GOALKEEPERS WERE USED THEY WOULD BREAK WITH THE IMPACT AS WELL AS NEVER SAVE... INFORM YOURSELF BEFORE SPEAKING NONSENSE
I like seeing realistic figures, so it's a no for me. I do have a couple of the extreme works metal goalies, but rarely use them as I'm just a casual player. At least they look vaguely human.

I personally would like FISTF to change the S from sports to Subbuteo. But you know branding and licensing and that

A very well worded opinion :-) Love it

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head
Good, that. You’re right - evolution. If everyone’s using them, there’s no “advantage” and it becomes a question of aesthetics. And they DO look crap!
Do what you can to win I guess

Don’t forget the balls, they have never been to scale either

Might as well put a Double decker bus on a stick 😂
I’ve seen pictures of it happening

I seen some humans that’s don’t even look human sometimes

This is one of the politest post I’ve ever seen you post :-) but you are right I think
OLD SKOOL FOR ME ! SINCE WHEN DID ARNIE BECOME A GOALKEEPER ?
They had to model it on someone I guess lol

Chill out mate, I think you might have missed the tongue in cheekness and click bait title, which really worked I must add. and why are you shouting!

I think it’s a can’t beat them join them
