There's also a subtle dig at Messi when he says 'I had to feed my family' as the reason he left Barca, since he is a billionaire anyway. There was a subtle one in the previous episode too, when he says 'I bankrupted Barcelona for these (steaks)'
Yeah the steaks was season 6 episode 1 and then they say put it in the bench
I think his net worth is 400 million, so he is not a billionaire
I don't know if he's a billionaire, but his contract was 130+ million euros a year, by far the highest in sports

Football was a thing 100 years ago, many powerful football clubs of today were around back then, but football itself was seen more like a hobby and a local social thing instead of a global multibillion $$$ industry. Most footballers of the time, even the top level ones had a full time job and played on the weekends for little or no money.
