Keynote: On De Opacification and the Right to Opacity

NYU Professor and filmmaker Manthia Diawara presents the keynote Fanon and Glissant: On De-Opacification and the Right to Opacity. In this session, he focuses on two theoretical concepts: de-opacification and the right to opacity, as deployed by Frantz Fanon and Edouard Glissant respectively. What did Fanon mean by the term ‘de-opacification’? How did he intend it as a tool of the liberation struggle and decolonisation? Is Glissant's demand for the right to opacity a response to Fanon’s and other thinkers’ over-reliance on a philosophy of transparency and existential dialectics? Is our consent to the opacity of the Other the best way of maintaining human and nonhuman diversity?
Organised by Sharjah Art Foundation, March Meeting is an annual gathering that brings together artists, curators and art practitioners to consider vital issues in contemporary art. The 13th edition of March Meeting, ‘Unravelling the Present’, examines the role of Sharjah Biennial and the future of the biennial model. Taking place from 12 to 21 March, MM 2021 features online talks, panels and presentations as well as on-site film screenings.

فانون وجليسانت: عن إلغاء الغموض والحق في الغموض
قدّم مانشا ديوارا (أستاذ في جامعة نيويورك، وصانع أفلام) الكلمة الرئيسية بعنوان "فانون وجليسانت: عن إلغاء الغموض والحق في الغموض"، وركز خلالها على مفهومين نظريين: إلغاء الغموض، والحق في الغموض، كما عرّفهما كل من فرانز فانون وإدوارد جليسانت على التوالي. ماذا قصد فانون بمصطلح "إلغاء الغموض"؟ كيف اعتزم استخدامه كأداة للنضال التحرري وإنهاء الاستعمار؟ هل يعدّ طلبُ جليسانت بشأن الحق في الغموض استجابة لاعتماد فانون المفرط وغيره من المفكرين على فلسفة الشفافية والديالكتيك الوجودي؟ هل موافقتنا على غموض الآخر هي أفضل طريقة للحفاظ على التنوع الإنساني وغير الإنساني؟
لقاء مارس هو فعالية سنوية تقيمها مؤسسة الشارقة للفنون لاستقطاب الفنانين والقيمين والممارسين الفنيين لاستعراض القضايا الملحة في الفن المعاصر، حيث عاينت النسخة الثالثة عشرة من اللقاء بعنوان تجليات الحاضر دور بينالي الشارقة ومستقبل نموذج البينالي. أقيم لقاء مارس في الفترة من 12 إلى 21 مارس وتضمن حوارات وجلسات نقاشية وعروض تقديمية على الانترنت بالإضافة إلى عروض الأفلام في مواقع المؤسسة.
