- Rory Gallagher - For The Last Time
From his first solo album, 1971
Love this track. And yes, the guitar solo does eventually end.
LYRICS:-
You've done me wrong,
For the last time,
You've sung your song,
Now I'm going to sing mine,
Out loud, so loud,
Like the roaring sea.
You've played around,
For the last time,
You've shown your claws,
Now I'm going to show mine,
Watch out, I'll be about,
In the night.
You ran around,
Since the very first day,
You've had your moment,
Now I'm gonna have my play,
So long, I'll be gone,
In the night.
You put me down,
For the very last time,
I hit the floor,
But I got up on the count of nine,
Goodbye, don't cry,
When I'm gone.
I believe he was par Jimi Hendrix too. This man could play literally anything. Electric, acoustic, uke and many other instruments. If modern blues rock are here today it's because of this legend. Till date he remains one of the extremely talented guitarist to walk on this planet. Sadly people dont recognize his contributions. Rory all the way. Love from India. Hope to visit Dublin some day to pay him my tributes. RIP.
He was from Hendrix's generation. The public schools were good in those days... music was on the curriculum and kids grew up actually interacting and COMMUNICATING with one another...
Bellyshannon !
When hendrix finished playing woodstock reporter asked him " so jimmy how it feels to be best guitar player in the world " he answered " dunno but ask rory "
@@josicmiroslav4796 he may have said that, but its doubtful. Depending on who you ask, he said that about rory, clapton, Billy gibbons, etc. But there's no evidence it ever happened. He wouldn't have been far wrong though. As much as I love rory Gallagher though, I still think jimi had the edge over him and the rest. Or at least he did it first.
Rory is bured in Cork not in Dublin, isn't it?
We the Greeks love rory the one! Respect!!
Rorys songs is medicine for my soul
My grandson (25) came in today while I was watching one of the full Montreaux shows. First words out of his mouth were "Damn, that dude is tearing it up!!" He then sat down and watched right along with me - and he's a full blown underground hip-hop guy, not much into blues or classic rock.
So fuck the 157 haters this video has, Rory is still reaching a new audience through this wonderful medium we have here.
I LOVE UA-cam.... treasure chest 💎
Not necessarily 'haters', just people for whom this isn't their cup of tea
at all times the best of listening to Rory Gallagher is the enigma a man who doesn't crawl to record. my wish for all Greeks I did go on the streets and demonstrate for your freedom.Like Mikis Theodoràkis fire in a free soul! belongs to his music not carring fervent hate There were war in Ireland .he says people are free as music & do never forget there are no divides Great man wise today as then.get the book. as I will give it on.he is /was always free.GREAT SPIRIT! RORY GALLAGHER! KARIN.

xlr8rx...You are right, this music is not known by the youngsters, but...it still is revolutionary !!!
Rory Gallagher was the best ever.
Will remains on our hearts forever.
Thank you for all the entertainment .
Those people don't com often around. I saw him once in Munich in an amazing concert. He is the reason for my guitar playing
How can ya not love this man?
My favourite guitar song ever ,we are not worthy of his brilliance , absolutely amazing
Greatest guitarist of all time with out a doubt!!

Man alive this is great
I saw him in Australia; l'm a guitar teacher, he IS THE BEST. I believe he is SO underrated. The most versatile muso... RORY will ALWAYS MY NUMBER ONE. Nobody touches him. His versatility smashes them all. 🎸😍
Belinda Drake yeah, he could do fast blues, slow blues and medium blues. So versatile.
Fluid playing. Grabbed me the first time I heard his playing in '74 still mourning his passing
Ronald Carfoot Me too. 😥EVERY DAY. 🎸✨🥺💔
Good listen Alvin Lee's Ten years after Bluest Blues .
Derek Trucks is someone to keep an eye on
This was the first Rory's song I ever heard. I was 11 at that time and I was stunned from the first listen. Lots of love to Ireland from Greece!!
Would kill to go back and live during that time. Must've been surreal to hear something like this at 11 years old
and now we have cRAP instead of music
It's a shame his play has been almost lost ! Thanks for keeping this alive ! RIP RORY ! YOU ROCK BROTHER ! GOD HAS THE BEST BAND ! ANGELS ROCK SOLID IN HEAVEN !
There's a supernatural quality to it, along with other Rory's songs that always make me cry.
2020 anyone listening?
YES !!!!
Amazing musician.... he is buried a few rows from my father's grave in St Oliver's graveyard in Cork... that's when I saw the music and his story began.. blown away.... I live in cork and never knew about him.... I can't stop listening....

The most underated artist in rock history. prove me wrong
A true Irish legend, hail Rory Gallagher - A Guitar God if ever there was one!
Pretty sure he was Scottish no?

I've learned about this man's about 10 months ago . And being 53 yrs old groing up listening to Traffic Humble Pie Uriah Heep Grand Funk Trapeaze Budgie Moxy Riot Triumph Pat Traver Fog Hat and never heard of Rory Gallagher __ Taste to now it's the only thing worth listening to. Rock On..

👍 Rory was great.🎸what a solo.
Try adding some Gary Moore and ThinLizzy in with those and you will STILL have room for more! Music from a Golden Age!
you sound gay, eric
@@mrniceguy4920
And that's not very nice.
Wonderful guitarist please remember Rory! Hard working guy who missed out on all the credit and left us far too young. We love you Rory.
Stephen Clarke he is of the highest credit to me. All that counts to me
Stephen Clarke...All my respect for a REAL musician !!!
@b b true and play he did ❤❤❤👏
LOVE FROM GREECE BIG RORY
Big up Greece ! 🇬🇷 🇮🇪
If I could be anything I wanted, I would want to be Rory Gallagher's guitar. 🤗
I saw him play in a little club, years ago. At one point I remember in the middle of a solo, he took off his guitar, set it on a ledge at the side of the stage, feeding back, took a swig of whiskey, then dipped his fingers in the glass and splashed the sign of the cross on his axe, before putting it back on and finishing the solo. Memories!
As a straight male, i feel you!

I listen only to him .Gary moore went for the $$ .rory for the beer.cheers
He is one of the fusion of blues and rock and roll . Forever be my best Rory Gallagher.
The best. Jimmy Hendrix was asked: how do you feel to be the best guitaris?
He said: you must ask Rory Gallagher
Dick Cavett actually said, "You're considered one of the best guitar players in the world", Hendrix said,"Oh No", Cavett said, "Well one of the best in this studio anyway," what Hendrix actually replied was " How about one of the best sitting in this chair", The Dick Cavett Show...that interview is easily found
I think there is another quote from the Mike Douglas show, every video of Rory seems to have this quote in the comments. The Johnny Winter fans also claim Hendrix said it about him, so who knows?
Rory was a great guitar player, but he was no Hendrix and Hendrix was a great musician, but he was no Rory.
@@colyzee no a argument, but I saw somewhere Jimmy Hendrix telling he loved the guitar playing of Billy Gibbons from ZZ top.
That story is told of many guitar players throughout rock history. I heard Eddie Van Halen when asked that said, I don't know go ask Alex Liefson. I think it actually became a stardard joke answer to the most obsurd question asked of a guitar player.
Best guitar blues of all time he could play an Irish genius and his music will live forever
This is a MASTERPIECE period.
I'm 18 always enjoyed rock music from The Rolling Stone to 90s grunge to even modern rock like Greta Van Fleet ( zeppelin/rush remakes). How I'm just discovering Rory, an absolute legend, is beyond me. First blues song I heard was Fame by David Bowie. If that's even Blues, idk. This will be my music of choice now until the day I day. Never knew he was influence for many great bands like Led Zeppelin, I think, not exactly sure. Either way, it's time to go for an afternoon cruise with this music blasting 😎🤞
The most underrated guitarist. Rory Gallagher was amazing.
Millions of words have been spoken about this very great and very human person, praise is rightly heaped on Rory but not that many people talk about the brilliance of Rory writing, he was a wordsmith, a poet of the first rate. My very dear friend Jimmie( who I called Jimmie the Greek) who came from beautiful Cyprus passed away a few weeks ago, I had not seen Jimmie for over 20 years ago until he came to visit his family in this part of the world and call around to my house almost 2 years ago. Gods blessings on you. This Rory song is for you Jimmie, I know that you are now resting peacefully in heaven with all your loved ones who passed ahead of you.
So fu--king amazing !!!
Man, I'd have loved to see him live.
I'd walk on hot coals
I was due to See him in Bristol 1990. I was having a Few drinks with My Crazy Jealous Woman..We got into one of our usual Heated Ranting and Raving Arguments. So I Tore the Tickets Up!! We both wer not Happy 😱 But ..We did go on to Manage An Awesome Motorcycle ROCK Bar👌 How Very Rock n Roll of Me..🏴😘 She's long gone .. There hangs a Tale😎RIP Rory..

wow... how popular Rory is among the Greeks! That's great!
yes, it should be hard to find any Greek who is from the 70's, 80's or 90's generation that doesnt know Rory...
One unforgettable gig back in 1980 - I kid you not. ;)
Not just popular. It's a cult.
merrycrisis bridge house canning town ?
That's the amazing part! Blows my mind! :)
Thanks Rory. Your the best their ever was...
Pure magic .. he was way ahead of his time .. his music is still more evolved than today's music
That's why you never hear Rory Covers. People can try to imulate Hendrix, but you'll just embarrass yourself trying to imulate Rory. Joe Bonamassas cover of Cradle Rock is a perfect example imo
This lad will go far.
Through the generations far.
Although he's gone too soon, his artistry will remain for even more years to come. I believe he is still the best of the best.
Hes been dead for year's.
@@RosehillJewelry he's been dead for year's
This man is a guitar god...but he bleeds with a human heart...that is included in every note he plays.
Still miss you Rory. 'Been listening to you since I was 15 a long time ago. You had something no-one else will.
what do you mean?
@@wolfganghornung3493 a unique, humble, mega talent. That's what I mean 😁
The great , amazing sound that JUST 3 EXTREMELY TALENTED GUYS, can OBTAIN. GENIUS OF MUSIC !!! I REALLY LOVE ALL IN THIS SONG !!! ALL !!!
So hard to believe this is over 50 years old. Like a great single malt. Just amazing.
Arg !!! suddenly i realize i am 70...
some american blues players never rate british or irish blues players they have never obviously listened to Rory or they would think again great, great guitarist the VERY BEST HE WAS AND IS SUPERB LONG LIVE RORY WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU.
Rory and Gary Moore put that stupid thought to rest. I'll take those 2 over any 2 other guitarists you could name. Including Carlos, Stevie ray and Joe B.
Excellent bass playing on this number.
Probably gerry mc avoy on bass still touring as band of friends well worth seeing. An appreciation of rory s music
You really have to be good , and he is, too jam down with Rory.
Yes, this was Gerry on bass...Rory's right-hand man for 20+ years. Incredible, almost telepathic communication between those two.
Gerry Mc Avoy yes all that time through the day when Taste was had to be disbanded by the stealing as deception of that "suspect manager: I sure find the way to be able for real time.but Gerry was with him and a true friend. hope that, we remember that always. All blessing. also called a great character and his family should be proud to as for him. KARIN
Jerry McAvoy is one of my favorite bass players, Leo Lyons is another. They put their souls and body into the music. KILLER.
salute from greece!
Πολύ μικρός και λίγος ο κόσμος για να σε χωρέσει 💫💫💫

Probably the best guitarist that ever was.
no probably ,,,,, GOAT
He's my favorite ,but there's no clear cut answer to that. Roy Buchanan is right up there with Rory
The very Great Master Musician Rory Gallagher, he could play them all from slow and deeply sad to all-out rocking tunes going full speed ahead, the man was a total master of his trade.
Christ...first time I hear this song . Bless you Rory where ever you are!!!
The quality of this track shows when you come to the solo. The interplay with Gerry on bass says it all.I saw Rory live in 71 when he recorded this studio album.a priveledge never to be forgotten.
I absolutely have a blast reading all the comments on this video(or any rory video really) Love the fans and most of all, so much love to Rory and his music.
no automatic repeat on youtube!!! Have been replaying it all day!! :)
saw him live here in new zealand in 1980. Brilliant. Humble man Incredible talent.
NME called him "The Irish Axeman"
Cool name for Rory..yes.. very cool. The Irish Axeman..I like it!!!
For what it's worth. I think that is a very cool title to bestow on him.
Me too. In Auckland Town Hall. Chatted briefly to him after. Very cool guy.
A one-off , unique. Never got the recognition he deserved. Can't think of a greater Irishman. Sadly missed

Rory was a beautiful player, a beautiful man and very humble gentleman, Rory was God rocking angle when he was on this earth, he is now hanging out and playing with Phil Lynott, Jimi Hendricks, Gary Moor and others when they play gigs down at Heavens Gate club most weekends
κλαιω με το σολο!!! αχ ρε ρορυ μας αφησες νωρις αλλα προλαβες και αφησες πισω σου πολλα κοματια να σε θυμομαστε! rip rory
The black cover ('sleeve') album. Saw Rory only once in concert, Xmas 1971 , Dublin National Stadium. A modest man, no 'star' nonsense. Brilliant guitarist & singer.
Knew him from his Taste days working colleges and speakeasy clubs. Awesome enough to listen to a workaholic with just a minivan and tatty second hand equipment, which he set up and dismantled himself.
His progresssion in the 70's and 80's allowed me to sèe him play again in town halls, stadia and at music festivals. Fabulous guitarist. Good songwriter. Pure entertainer.
He kept his independence from the mainstream music moguls. This prevented him making the bigtime and he had no guardian angel to keep him off the bottle.
The George Best of the rock fraternity. Absolutely brilliant, likeable and genuine.
+Peter Ramsey did you get to hang out with him at all?
+Elana Fariss nooooo.!
im not a celebrity chaser but after a gig at Paradiso in Amsterdam he came to the bar with his crewe and had a drink. But he was shy and soon slipped away.
+Peter Ramsey WOW!
there is lots of stories like that. he was very quite apparently. he had a house just outside my town and he would just walk around like a normal person and go for a quite pint on his own. he didnt have a rock star ego at all. the very few people that i know to claimed to have met him all said he was very nice but quite. he is a hero here in cork
That is exactly the kind of person I imagine him to be, very down to earth,
true to himself.
My HERO & MENTOR!! The GREATEST GUITARIST EVER.....l fall apart....🎸
best guitarist and songwriter ever!
you are very wise person, not many people talk about the brilliance of Rory writing, he was a wordsmith, a poet of the first rate
True legend, gone so young. Thank you Rory for all your great music.
that solo is just amazing
Every now and than I stop by to listen to this song and every time it touches me somewhere deep inside in heart.
I think Rory G's rhythm section still plays with the James Taylor quartet (the acid jazz band not the folk singer).
Stephen Smith
Oh, ok, I am going to find me some of that James Taylor quartet than. Thanks for sharing that... How's life Stephen?.
DirkjeA
Not too bad. I would say life is about '7.2' out of 10. I experienced 9.4 once (in 1970 I think) and a 9.8 in 1973! I will find you some James Taylor Quartet. I think they are great, though very different to Rory G. OK I'll go and look now....
Rory Gallagher the Greatest!
Your music still Alive in 2020🤘
I always want to cry when he sings "When I'm gone"...
Blues Blues but don't cry, he said it
How that guy came out with such a beautiful and singular song remains mysterious.
No mystery to me.
Yeah, this song really moves me as well. I could listen to it daily.
I did for awhile a couple of years ago , I had the cd in my car and listened on the way home . Its from his first solo album , which is probably my favorite .

so many singers, so many bands, so many songs...ALL PAST AND GONE FORGOTTEN IN THE GREAT VOID OF OBLIVION----------ONE ONLY PREVAILS AND ACCOMPANIES ME EVEN TODAY in my shadowye years.. HIS NAME IS RORY GALLAGHER THE ONE AND ONLY !!!!
Well said brother of Rory.
this legend left us too soon
His own fault tho... nobody is born as a Alcoholic
That's such a negative view of alcoholism. It is a disease that people will struggle with their entire life. Also, genetics highly influence susceptibility to alcoholism, so Rory very well could have been predestined to struggle with it. Just because he may have failed to get the help he needed doesn't mean you should blame him for his death.
My dad is a strong alcoholic. This led to me never touching a drop because I realized the risk early enough. I agree with your statement and apologize if my comment came out rude, but I'm serious with my statement. I can't feel any empathy for someone who died of alcoholism. Even in the case of Mr.Gallagher, who made so much music to enjoy.
why too?
This man's music grabbed me when I was seventeen, back in seventy four. Reluctant to say he's the best guitarist. There isn't one. The way I see it is he's got his very own lane on rock's very wide highway. If that sounds like bullshit so be it. I have had a few beers and that's the thought I have right now. He's the first guy I want to see at the pearly gates (if there are such things)
And Rory's lane would be the fast lane. I've thought about those pearly gates & meeting up with him there. What a time we all might have!
Never gonna be someone like Rory anymore. Such a music soul.
Not gonna lie, after listening to pretty much nothing but Rory, SRV, Johnny Winter, Roy Buchanan the last couple weeks any music out now sounds unsatisfying.
Still to this day there will be no better, my late twin brother got me onto Rory just one of the many, many great things he did for me I have all Rory Gallagher's records and all ways will Iam edged in blue but feel so much better when I play the LEGEND Rory Gallagher.
what a beautiful song

I am so fortunate to have seen Rory three times in concert. A one of a kind with a musical soul unlike anyone else. I love his debut solo album even though some critics and people don't rate this album any higher. For me, All of his recordings were fantastic!!! 😀
I was fortunate to see him 8 times between 78-93. He was a 1-oFF, true original. The memories of the gigs are etched in my brain. 🎙🎸🎼🎵🎶🎵
