In my humble opinion Eva is not quite ready for this role yet. She will be much better prepared with some more maturity and life experiences under her belt. I may be old fashioned but I wish such talented soloists in her age range were not pushed so hard to do the biggest roles so quickly-not all can handle them repeatedly without threat of injury. I'm thinking of the beloved soloist Maria Khoreva of the Mariinsky that I adore and have been watching in particular. She just returned after 8 months due to a bad injury. Not sure what exactly happened but it gives a cause for concern. Thank you for bringing us this beautiful video! ❤
Maria Khoreva in her last video did not want to talk exactly about what happened to her, maybe she is not ready ? Maybe also as dance is such a competitive environment at this level of perfection that she does not want to appear weak ? About Eva Sergeenkova, I agree with you, the role of Giselle is very complex and it is difficult at 19 years old to fully embrace the whole aspects of it. The Russian ballet has so many great ballerinas, sometimes they push them very quickly and then they stalled or disappear ....Any way Eva is such a perfect ballerina, her physique, legs, feet, are stunning, she has to develop her style, artistic and musical skills ....

Такую партию следует репетировать не менее года, а то и больше, она слишком значительна . А Хорева очень специфична, я бы сказала, для балета слишком специфична. Your post helped me, a lay afficiando so much better understand and appreciate this performance. Zakharova thank goodness still performs and is videoed. After Svetlana, the gap is large. This ballerina is among the 4 I consider to also be artists on their own or like this one, still improving and extending. Svetlana's extensions and expansive movement are breathtaking. This reader hopes Eva Sergeenkova improves the short distance to Zakharova's physical extensions. In no way do I denigrate Eva. I too was thrilled in some of her dance expertise.

The PRIZE role of Giselle is the most coveted of all in the Ballerina business. There are more great forgettable Giselles than historical legendary ones. Why is that 🤔? Because it's an impossible role to OWN. The story of Giselle itself is a challenge to bring to life, combining all the intangibles of creativity to make things happen with magical moments. A true star role. Who gets picked for it, who qualifies for it, and WHY. What happens when a ballerina exels in a 2nd act and disappoints in the 1st? These are just a few samples of what happens in the Giselle harvest. I ask, why isn't La Stepanova dancing Giselle? Since Russian Ballet Videos brought her to our attention decades ago, I thought she would likely be a magical Giselle. She has danced Myrtha. Eva Sergeenkova seems like a perfect selection, and certainly, no criticism can be made of the seamless, stunning, almost otherworldly ghost wili of the 2nd act with my only note for the weak lethargic entrechats. 1st act. Everything is going well. Everything is on cue musically. There's the beautiful, peasant girl with a fragile heart. The daisy scene , "He loves me, he loves me, not," gets bonus points done in profile, looking like a Vermeer portrait. So far, so good. Now we get to the defining moment of a Giselle, the joy of dancing, not only for "Loys" but for an entire village. The variation. Looks easy, and the most difficult in putting it all together with the aplomb and virtuoso brio it demands. So when did it go downhill for Eva here, in the incomplete attitude turns. This section is the dread of every ballerina I have ever spoken to, and when they fail, they make it up in the pickes coda or in the famous Spessivteseva diagonal, which has never been in place at the Bolshoi or Mariinsky. The mad scene blocking hasn't changed, and the last time I saw it live was with the legendary SEMENYAKA with IREK MUCKHAMEDOV as Albrecht at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. 1986. Nina Ananiashvily was Myrtha. Does this mad scene staging need a refresh? YES. In closing, I am not enthralled with Eva Sergeenkova as Giselle, but that 2nd act is phenomenal and perfect, and whoever accomplishes that, she has already made history. BRAVO 👏 post B.D.!!!

First time Giselle: very well done, Sergejenkova. It seemed to be bolshoi style using the free leg very high. About two hands lower would be more in the romantic style. And no downfall hands! Imo Beljakov a bit bland performed. Nevertheless a good beginning for becoming a gloriuos Giselle and a great Albrecht. Especially the changing into a wilis was impressing!
Над руками надо ещё хорошо поработать. Часто встречаются положения согнутых в локтях рук и это очень портит вид. Пока танцует ещё как школьница. Не хватает широты в движениях рук, особенно в первом акте. Это бросается в глаза. Надо исправлять. Руки жестковаты. Добавить актерского мастерства, его тоже не хватает. Понятно, что ещё начинающая и молоденькая, но в балете время летит и чем раньше всё исправить, тем лучше и для исполнителя и для зрителя. Желаю ей творческого роста и успехов.

Lovely. Yet, the *clunk clunk clunk* of point shoes wears as a sound of a Dutch glogging character shoe. Russian orchestras are one of the finest for the Giselle and ballets, too. At 19 she is all the anticipation of Giselle...do something about these point shoes!!
@@susannevollmer2347 The block is not broken in to align with her foot...I realise with such large insteps she needs support but it reduces the flexibility of the feet and the flow of the line, as well as the extension....which is high, but not "extended". Don't like to be picky, she is obviously very talented, but this heavy point shoe seems to be a new emergence and not a good one imo :-(
I'm no expert, but yes, I found myself asking what's wrong with the shoes? She has a very high arch and I think the shoes are too narrow and the wings not high enough; they don't allow her toes to be fully accommodated at the end of the pointe shoe. That makes the tip of the pointe fold. (Call Josephine at The Pointe Shop). Beautiful ballerina and début in Giselle, nevertheless.
It is hard to believe this ballerina is only 19. Such artistry!! Such beauty!! .May she have a long and happy career.

oh no, Tsiskaridze and Lunkina.. they are like another moon for these performers. The pace is slow, and this Giselle can barely move her paws.

She is clearly a very talented dancer. Her approach to the second act needs some polishing.

Lovely. Yet, the *clunk clunk clunk* of point shoes wears as a sound of a Dutch glogging character shoe. Russian orchestras are one of the finest for the Giselle and ballets, too. At 19 she is all the anticipation of Giselle...do something about these point shoes!!
True, yet sometimes these private videos pick up the noises that are less audible from the audience.

A bit of a problem sadly with the line of the feet....the shoe is not part of the line so the length is broken....
The block is too much!?
@@susannevollmer2347 The block is not broken in to align with her foot...I realise with such large insteps she needs support but it reduces the flexibility of the feet and the flow of the line, as well as the extension....which is high, but not "extended". Don't like to be picky, she is obviously very talented, but this heavy point shoe seems to be a new emergence and not a good one imo :-(
I'm no expert, but yes, I found myself asking what's wrong with the shoes? She has a very high arch and I think the shoes are too narrow and the wings not high enough; they don't allow her toes to be fully accommodated at the end of the pointe shoe. That makes the tip of the pointe fold. (Call Josephine at The Pointe Shop). Beautiful ballerina and début in Giselle, nevertheless.
