Honestly this feels more like a song that mixes both The Fragile and With Teeth together. This and Deep is what I imagine NIN sounding like if Trent released an album in 2001 or 2002

Four years is not that long; it hardly would’ve made a difference. songs don’t exactly dull over time so much as your mind does when you listen to them
I remember watching Trent play this song live to benefit Hurricane Katrina and I was in actual tears by the end. It felt so personal and was one of the best live performances I've ever seen in my life.
This song is so amazing, dark, moody, eerie, just overall so perfect. Trent Reznor is a phenomenal artist! I would give this song a billion thumbs up if I could.
This may be one of the best songs ever made in the history of the world. What a brooding, raw song, every aspect is perfect the eeriness of the piano, the guitar giving it a bit of that hopeful feel, I hear this song and I hear perseverance of the human will in spite of nearly having lost all hope.
CaseyA Wheeldon Of his vast catalog the only song i cant stand is "Everything" off of Hesitation. just doesn't do it for me and it feels like he put minimal interest in it
I like that song! I think Trent's a genius of course, but there are some songs I just don't like that much by him. Love Is Not Enough for example, is great instrumentally but the lyrics are awful, they're not really saying anything he hasn't said before and they're doing it in a very boring way. Kinda I Want To has obnoxious stereo panning and cringeworthy lyrics. But I don't dislike any of those songs, I can only really come up with one song like that; In Two from HM. I hate the first half of this song, it starts with a great atmospheric build up then Trent's delivery is really awkward and the instrumentation is tripping on its own wires. After that an awful vocoder effect with trent just saying "nononnonono", it's almost comical, and the chorus has this fumbling confused falsetto harmony, it just sounds bad. After the second chorus there's a great typical NIN quiet bridge section which is fantastic, and then the transition into WISH here is excellent. Not a complete catastrophy, and not worth skipping but I don't like the main part of that song at all!
how have i not come across this song its one of the best I've ever heard and the lyrics are genius. i swear whatever the higher power is made me come across this right now for how i relate to it.

This would have arguably been the best track on With Teeth. God knows what possessed Trent to think it wasn't worth putting it on there at the time.

Beautiful song. I don't doubt Trent's decision making, but I think this would have been just fine on the With Teeth album.
DAMELKEYON I agree. There are quite a few similar sounding songs on the With Teeth album. It would've fit so perfectly on there.
But it makes it special those few times you hear it separately
Replace Love Is Not Enough with it! I think the real reason is he just didn't have it recorded and/or properly mixed in time
Considering he let "everything" slide onto Hesitation Marks, its straight blasphemy this was left off With Teeth
Very good idea, seems like it would've been flawless.
