ENGLAND TEAM FOR NZL | ALL BLACK BEATERS???

- England's team for New Zealand was fairly predictable. There WERE, though, some interesting selections. Double Curry, Twindaloo, and no Sam Underhill. A 6/2 split. Are the ingredients the right mix to beat the All Blacks?

Agree with your comments re Captain and VCs - I am olde schoole, and prefer simply nominating a captain and that is it.
Totally agree with you on the vcs... isn't this game complicated enough?
As an irish supporter I'm cheering for England on Saturday, hope your team wins Tim! Looking back on the nz series, it was rotten luck ye didn't win the first one and to be only a score behind in the dreaded Eden Park is no small feat. We got hockeyd there in 22.
Squad looks good, Jamie george is a class act, v good at handling the ref and Marcus Smith is getting better every year now he's got the game time. Good luck.
🇮🇪🏴
I thought we just switched off for a moment a couple of times in that Eden Park game, got punished for that but on the whole there wasn't much between the teams on the day.
Tim, I always give you a thumbs up before I even watch your videos🤣
So what does Matt Williams have to say about the 6/2 split???? What a tosser he must be feeling right now!!!!! 😂 he who laughs last laughs the longest
As an Ireland and Leinster fan I can confirm Matt Williams is a clown
As a neutral I can see England pulling off a shock win Feyi-Waboso and Baxter look like such promising players - shame abt Ted Hill not being included tho
Would it be a "shock" after the two close matches away in the summer? I would think the team (and the non neutral supporters!) Would be disappointed with a loss.
@ possibly, as a neutral I would save New Zealand are the favourites and if anything I think it would suit England better to be considered the underdogs I think that worked rly well for them in the RWC semi final last year
Would agree. Think the fact they've had the rugby championship to gel and practice their systems probably gives them the edge. @@clippedrugby14
Yeah, I would it's pretty even.
What shock?? I expect a win. Not by much maybe, but a win they are more than capable of. They have proved over the past 12 that they can hang with anyone. Now they have to learn how to win. If they are given what they need off the field that will happen too. They are not afraid of anyone.
For Borthwick this Autumn is judgement time.
"Twindaloo" drew a chuckle out of me 😅
I’m personally in favour of Marler voicing his opinion we’re always complaining abt how rugby lacks the drama to inflate its marketing, comments like this are exactly what the game needs to inject more interest into the rivalry and the game
We can have drama, what we can't have is disregard for ones culture. If you were highly connected to your culture and you hear someone disrespect it, you'd be mad ASWELL. UFC trash talk would be nice but talking about ones culture is even more low than mentioning someone's family. Don't think you'd understand about culture.
The game doesnt need that bs. So to insult anothers culture is good marketing. Rugby was not built on that.
@@rileyfreeman9726I could be wrong by my instinct said this was genius on Marler’s part. On the surface it seems like a wreckless comment but now everyone is talking abt it, especially New Zealand, and interest in the game is now at a much higher level than previously. Is it offensive? Yes arguably. But I don’t think anyone would bat an eyelid if someone from NZ or Australia said we need to bin off the royal family which is a big part of English culture. I personally love the haka and would keep it but I think ppl voicing opposing opinions and increasing interest in the game is a good thing for the sport
@@brucefale6132 completely disagree, I think he’s perfectly entitled to voice his opinion and on the marketing side everyone is talking abt it and that leads to more interest in the game which is a good thing for the sport. Like I’ve said I’m in favour of the haka but I’ve got not problem ppl voicing opposing views on it
Well made points there. It has had a good effect on the interest of neutrals in the game
Sorry Tim, not gonna happen this time. NZ will dominate the scrums. But I'll be rooting for Eng just because of you Tim.
Hey Tim, safe travels, I think this game could very well go England's way, IF their front row and scrum on general can hold up, if not, NZ probably will walk it
Bold calls by Steve. He’s announcing early as got annoyed by the leaks at the RWC. Overall like the team - risky with the ‘just been injured’ players - Curry, Domers, Ford, and Slade.
Agreed Dommers in particular is a strange call - I’m a Quins fan and I think he’s a lot better than England fans give him credit for but surely u need a guy on form like Tom Willis for the time being while Dommers recovers from injury
@@John-ny7jn - I’m also a Quins fan and don’t believe he should be in that team . No Underhill is strange…
@@Greg-ql8ytagreed B Curry > Underhill is a strange decision
My only concern is the number of guys included recently back from injury, fingers crossed no hiccups there. Other than that he's got size and power all over the park and some world class operators sprinkled with a bit of X factor plus a bench designed to speed up the last 20 mins. If the defensive system is firing it should be a great game.
I think the balance is right. Assuming everyone is fit and raring to go. Still feel like Ted Hill is like a Pieter Steph Du Toit in the making. His time will come. Agreed about the lock pairing. Exciting, hard, everything you want from a lock pairing.
Pieter Steph du toit in the making?? 😂😂 You English said that Tom Curry was gonna be the next McCaw but what happened. If anyone is the next PSDT, it would quite literally be BJ Dixon, who Rassie wanted to have the same effect as PSDT. Or possibly Oli Haig from new Zealand.
Totally agree that putting VC on the team sheet is unnecessary. Indeed I think it could sometimes be counter-productive in that it might (I stress "might") cause some ill-feeling within the squad, because with so many VCs some players might wonder why they are not a VC. In this selection we even have one VC on the bench. Giving pep talks to the other subs maybe?
I’ve got nothing against this team really. It totally follows Steve’s philosophy. (Also England did early releases for all the NZ tests)
For me the dream would have been:
Freeman at 13 so sleightholm can be on the wing
Willis and Hill on the bench over Dommers and Curry
For myself i would have liked T,Hill to start at 6 in place of T.Curry [who isn't in form ] This would mean moving B.Earl to 7 [where he is playing for Saracans] While playing C.C.South at 8 On the bench i would have had S.Underhill ,and A.Drombrant at the moment [When T.Curry comes into form i may change my mind ,and if Underhill is carrying a knck then B.Curry replaces him on the bench at the moment The only other change in the pack is iI would start F.Baxter with E.Genge on the bench. In the backs I would have started T.Freeman at 13 until H.Sladeproves he is really match fit and operating at 100%
I get the concept of selecting on form. Borthwick obviously values experience very highly.
@@EggchasersRugby Knowledge of the systems is probably the most important thing. It would be incredibly difficult for Borthwick to build a long term gameplan and overaching structure if the personnel constantly changed depending upon those on form.
Our lock pairing is brilliant but they have the potential to be the best but not the best yet
If Ben Earl was a kiwi he'd be considered the best backrower in the world
hes good but what makes him the best
Who would he make the team over? 😂
As soon as his stats are as good as Caelan Doris' you can say that.
Joe Marler is right, he can wind up more serious sensible pedants than anyone, Goolies to AWJ. He is the best narcissist in the squad (even better than MS) we can't all be Jonny Wilkinson (there's only 1)- wind him up and send him out starter against the Saffers. Finn the Jelly Baby on the bench (give VC Ellis a rest before Japan)- Twindaloo is a puzzler but 4 games in the series- Ted Hill is the real 6 he'll rip it up and be hard to drop when he gets his chance (good luck to CCS though)- wish they played Earl at 7, Dombo will be on for last 30 minutes and get 2 tries.
After disparaging Rassie and the Springboks, since 2019, they have now copied the Springboks in Team announcement, bomb squad, defence, attack, and player selection, except for too many captains (cooks) who will spoil the broth.
Too much coaches spoil the broth, but it doesn't apply here. It will be a leadership group which every team has, it's just all for show and nothing else.
Agree with the vice captains. Name a captain publicly, and privately the leadership group knows their roles within the team. If you feel it necessary to name a vc publicly just in case the skip gets into the sin bin, but I don’t get the multiple vc on the team sheet.
Nice to hear your comments about Tom Curry . Hes a great player & a great guy. So much petty nastiness in peoples comments . Everyones entitled to their opinion but why not try & be positive instead of negative all the time . Usually because someones favourite club player isnt included . He ( Borthwick ) cant play or please everyone .
Totally agree 👍
I believe that Englands best squad to take on the top teams involves a 6:2 split. Thoughts on Marcus as the starting 10 and potentially (once the appropriate skill set is developed) moving to 9 if required to free up the extra spot on the bench for backs?
Why move your best playmaker to number 9? Dumbest thing I've heard.
Not surprised T Hill is not in, I like him loads but he needs a few more training sessions. Think the game will be close but there's a number of English players with very little game game this season (T curry, Ford, Slade, Dombrandt) I know they are very experienced but I wonder if they will be just a bit rusty. Agree T Curry is a great player and I hope he has a great game but to be fair his 2 performances in NZ were not eye catchers.
Why did Joe Marler give the ABs a quote they're gonna pin on the dressing room wall for added motivation?! What an unforced error! Should be Freeman or Lozowski @13 over an under-cooked Slade; and on the bench, should be Hill & Willis over B Curry & Dombrandt and F Smith over Ford.
You do not play rugby on the dressing room wall.
I was struck by Courtney Lawes' interview with Big Jim, and saying his ego was too big to be called out by a coach like Rassie, and that rugby is just a game that shouldnt be taken "uber serious". England will always be in the lower half of top tier world rugby, not for lack of talent, training and money, but due to their arrogance and egos. The sooner they get rid of the Lawes, Farrels, Sincklers type bad attitude, the better.
I dont think Borthwick is the man to fix it though. Having to dole out VC's to all and sundry is a symptom of this entire problem and the wrong approach to fixing it.
Back in the real world England have been in The semi's last world Cup and the final before that...
@@davidspence5567 Easy routes with no tough matches.
Toughest teams they played to get to the semis in '23 were ranked 9,10 and 11.
Similar in 2019.
All I am saying is they could be in the top 4 if they had a better mindset, because they sure arent lacking in talent, money, infrastructure or training
@@ad2040 England have been in 4 world cups finals...yes they have only who one and that is a monkey they need to get off there back. They are still the best NH side historically in the world cup...I would say they are better then lower teir 👍
Typical Greek backdrop. Criticism levelled at slade and curry is lack of game time mainly, we'll see. How B Curry supersedes Underhill is beyond me though.
If Ben curry cocks up this opportunity then he could probably kiss his international career goodbye, the time he was picked he looked out of place, maybe he was intimidated by the occasion?
Sam Underhill is the best 7 since Neil back, he never has a bad game, but he does have outstanding games, in NZ he didn't stand out like he can, but come the 6 nations he will be back to starting 7.
Hey Tim
Its all about listening to the whole bit of Joes comment.he basically said that the Haka s relevence is diminished because teams are to keep a distance
Obviously not much we can do at the minute with what's available, but think we could really struggle in the scrum all Autumn.
SA & NZ are the clear top 2 in the world there, and Australia are pretty decent with Bell and Tupou fit.
Australia? They were so good they refused to scrum for 50 minutes against SA after feigning an injury to one of their props.
Ireland, in my opinion, have the next best scrum, although England on form are just as good.
@@davesmith826 Australia don't have the depth of NZ or SA, but Bell and Tupou are destructive at their best.
As for Ireland & England, there is literally no any evidence from the past year to support any of that. Both sides have played SA & NZ, and have been bested at scrum time in every game....
England can definitely beat the ABs. We (the ABs) have been basically playing together since July and England will be coming together for the first time in a while. That might be the difference in this game. But I think England will feel this is a rebuilding ABs team for the taking.
NZ are battle-hardened and look good right now though. Playing them cold I don't see is matching NZ. They've got every chance of winning every match on their tour the big one will be Ireland
I just hope England front up physically and tire the AB’s out so they are fatigued for the Ireland game next week😂
😆
Old-skool here. One team, one Capt. One reserve Capt, incase injury dictates. Too many "sous chefs" spoil the broth.imo
Should be interesting both teams on the up
Yep, one více captain max. In the backs if...tralala...
Slade does not scare defenses. He also makes way too many errors for a play maker. Freeman to 13 and Sleighthome on the wing.
Generally happy with team, but the bench is an issue. Who is covers centre and or wing? If Slade or Freeman go down for example the backline will be a mess
No real surprises right… No Ted Hill, he is in great form… would have liked to have seen him given a shot at least in the bench… good to see Ben Spencer to start…
VCs, a bit like Irish electricians changing a light bulb 🙂 Not going to be any suprises with the ABs either , getting used to no risk no fun selections these days. should be close .
Exactly Tim, too many vice captains is bonkers. I dont think an army unit with 15 members has more than one sub commander. They would loose, too many cooks and all that
Egos must be massaged.
With Joe Marler out there isn't a single proven scrummager in the entire English squad. The ABs front row will soften up the Poms nicely for Ox and the boys to land the killer blow.
😆
As mush as i rate Slade. AL from Saracens deserved a go in centre tbh.
How many chances is Dombrandt going to have to prove he’s not up to England standard? He’s just never performed at international level, just a waste of time when there are so many better 8s.
What is the weather like in Twickenham this weekend? Think that may affect the NZ loose trio and flyhalf selections.
"Just needs an opportunity" what, like Ted Hill?
Re Joes tweet. Literally a bit of fun and niggle. Primarily aimed at restrictions of players ability to respond to it. Feel like the whole thing got blown out of proportion as it does on the internet.
Nailed it. Totally agree
@ Joe has definitely put his foot in it at times in the past or crossed the line. But this was not one of those. I feel for him! Sure he’s able to laugh at it (even if his agent doesn’t). Keep up the great work Tim!
ABs by 5
I think we look good. It will be close. We are a very solid unit, with a few world class players and very few weaknesses. The only issues are 9 and 13, particularly 13, given that ALL world class teams have greats 13s.
(Ireland and SA definitely have a better lock partnership. Arguably, I think even Wales have a better pairing if they pick Rowlands and Jenkins). Martin is an absolute beast though .
Only one half of the Kamakaze twins. Gotta pick Sam surely.
Not a chance, Tim. The ABs will win with ease.
England may beat Australia and should manage a win against Japan.
You been keeping up with rugby this year?
Definitely.... 🏴 🏉
Ford and Slade and a mistake IMO. This is compounded by the 6:2 bench which can work but you need someone who can cover a number of positions like Daily or Lozowski. I think there's a lack of impact off the bench too. Dombrant is a bit of a luxury player and if he doesn't start shouldn't be in the squad as he can't really cover anywhere but 8 at International level. I'm not sure Slade has ever really had an outstanding performance in an England shirt. I think Lozowski 12 Lawrence 13 would have been a form partnership with the interchanging.
I'm not sure on Tom Curry since he's come back from what sounds like a career limiting injury. CCS needs to become an 80 min player.
@ILostYourSoul I expect Slade and Lawrence will interchange as previously. Slade will defend at 13 and Lawrence will attack from 13 I expect. No issue with Slade if he'd had more game time
I believe England have the team to beat the AB's
If ABs sort the last Quarter collapse theyve been having, I think they Win. Bench just hasnt had any punch or cohesion.
Think England by 15
For the first time in my life I'm rooting for Eng rather than NZ just to shut JK up. Or make him more annoyed.
And the world kept spinning 😂
Tom curry needs a big game
Harry Randall could cover the wing?
No i doubt that they are? Dombranot is not a good pick.
Saffas will never like Tom Curry...babblelaar.
Itoje peaked in 2021
England 22 All Blacks 32
I dont care what they call it now but it will always be Twickenham to me.
Slade is good but his defence is damp
Slades defence is good I thought
@@JackFrench-v5cHis tackling is mild
@@eversor10 he makes good defensive reads in a rush defence.
@JackFrench-v5c but he plays full back and seems to fall off those key tackles
You could have released this video on Tuesday 😜
BETTER THEN EBAN AND RG SNYMAN?
"potentially" the best best in the world. The fact Martin is that good aged 22 and Maro has a fair few years yet gives me confidence they *could be.
Borthwick trying desperately to be Rassie.
Looking forward to this one as a ‘neutral’ Irishman 😉
It’s just incredibly difficult to tell where England or NZ are the moment. Home advantage is massive for England, and NZ have been out of sorts over the past 12 months. But, they certainly won’t roll over. Don’t really want to call it, but I’ll go for a slim England victory and hopefully a few injuries to soften them up for us the following week 💪🫡
No. The ABs never roll over and die. I can see an AB win.
Hahahaha 😂 yeah right and im superman 😂
Not a fan of either of the Currys, Ford, George or Slade. Not done enough or too old and just taking minutes away from players we need to develop at International level for the next world cup. Lets move on now not 9 months out.
4 Vice-captains😮 Whos listens to who😅
Tom Curry is good but since that Mbonambi incident I've never respected him
A bet curry is sad to here this you donut

Sadly England lose by 7 maybe more points. Too predictable. Barret and McKenzie are going to run rings around us. With a new coaches rather than the world class that left. I maybe see England beating only Japan.
Tim I also love Ford Curry and Slade
The haters are mostly non English faking it
