This is originally a piece from Kalamandalam, Calcutta. Even the voice on the Nritya part (not the one on the nattuvangan) is that of Sukumar G. Kutty. The entire Varnan piece (as we were taught by Auntie herself) is a 25 minutes piece, and not an 11 minutes dance. The performance is, of course, nowhere up to Kalamandalam standard - primary disappointment is that she did not maintain her Aramandi at all, and did not complete any of her steps, and Abhinav’s is more cinematic than reflecting divinity!
The Nattuvangam part was of Guru Abhoy Pal. It was a Live performance in the Rabindra Bharati University. A stage demonstration of a time limit of 10 mins, which was edited and arranged and taught by Guru Abhoy Pal & Sukumar Sir.
Dear, I don’t mean to criticize the intent, nor discourage you. There is room for improvement, and I hope you will take it as such. A recommendation - watch some clips from Sridevi Nrithyalaya to enhance your finesse.
@@amritabhattacharyya7531 there are two types of Abhinaya .. natyadharmi and lokadharmi. Lokadharmi is realistic, cinematic, while natyadharmi is exaggerated. Both are acceptable, but in today's world, I guess lokadharmi is more palatable to the audience. Also, from the performers I have seen, the kalamandalam style barely looks like Bharatnatyam when compared to Sri Devi Nrityalaya and many other Banis, the primary difference being the lack of araimandi. Now I don't know whether that is the style itself, or a lack of fitness of the dancers.
AMRITARUPA LAHA , I would attribute it to lack of practice. Sridevi Nrithyalaya and a few other similar institutions start body conditioning of the students from a very tender age; they learn to maintain aramandi and balance. Add to that rigorous practice, and the what you have is a near-perfect end product. Even the Abhinaya (let’s be more lenient given the language-barrier) leans on devotional. The unfortunate part is, Kalamandalam, Calcutta, till the recent past had a huge potential - it had monopoly in the entire eastern region! I, by no means, claim to be a great dancer, but I cherish the compositions where the same singer here had lent his voice in his younger days with his mother, Smt. Kutty herself on the nattuvangam. I do wish, they had built on their legacy than diluting it with the supposed “crowd-pleasers”. It gives me no pleasure in criticizing, but it is a sad fact.
@@amritabhattacharyya7531 Hello! I have also that varnan. Do you have any idea where can I get to see a video of the entire varnan? I can hardly find the kalamandalam varnan here. Thank you.
