    Yo dawg we heard you like fancy compound turbochargers so we put a fancy compound turbocharger on your facility that tests fancy compound turbochargers

    Streamlining cost is crucial to achieve scalability - especially in military!

      Yeah, i hope that Hermeus, Anduril and others can kick the lazy and expensive big-5 defense oligopoly in the butt. SpaceX already did that to NASA because by their estimates NASA was 50x more expensive than it needed to be just because everyone with a government job was happy with it, as it wasn't their money, and the private contractors also didn't mind taking said money.

      @texasranger24 Yeah, we can not defend the free world unless we achieve price-scalability and best-BANG-for-a-buck. For too long, we've had the "high-tech creep" where expensive low-quantity material (and men) have replaced the streamlined optimum solutions 💪🫡💥✌️

    could you guys share the stories of how the company started and your journey

    Is the jet that these guys are building going to be available for commercial public use or military only have watched a few clips and a little confused as they only mention its a passenger jet but who are the passengers going to be like is airforce or someone that couldn’t be bothered with the long standard travel times?🤣

    Wall Street seems to have a knack for embracing flashy concepts, packaging them through the media, and selling them to the market. To date, I haven’t seen any real innovation from this company. Their demonstrations appear to rely on the same Pratt & Whitney F100 military turbofan engine, using an aircraft with no wind tunnel tests or payload validation. I mean, these are the bare minimum requirements for the development of any new aviation engine, let alone a turbine-based combined cycle (TBCC) engine. Frankly, I’d suggest they skip the theatrics and just buy a Pratt & Whitney J58 directly from the military.

    • @Ethan-3369
      @Ethan-3369 25 днів тому +1

      J58 is too slow for hypersonic. the j85 they modified was able to run in simulated mach 4 conditions. They also have alluded to using a cryo fuel heat exchanger to keep the turbines from melting at high speed. The only thing they are doing is taking proven tech and trying to push it to its limit

      I’d say developing a turbo-ramjet from a stock production engine is quite a bit of innovation.

    Maybe the actual reason for "the lack of hypersonic test infrastructure" is the lack of a practical application for hypersonic tech. Other than possibly weapons - though even that is questionable, what is thing good for?

    • @PearbabyREAL
      @PearbabyREAL 26 днів тому +12

      improving space launch capabilities, researching the behaviour of hypersonic and high altitude air (which could provide insights for slower day to day situations), just generally being cooler than simply not doing anything like this with the money, i guess

      "lack of practical application" are you fking kidding me? some people are so small minded it baffles me.

      @@PearbabyREAL If a customer wanted a cubesat in an unusual or polar orbit, the launch thing might find a _few_ customers, but otherwise I agree Pear. This is just a grant magnet.

      @@averystablegenius using an at least partly airbreathing launch system (say a ramjet to 100 thousand feet+, then a rocket to orbit), whilst at the moment isn't terribly practical, but because it's not carrying all of its reaction mass (ambient air heated with fuel to produce thrust), will always be able to achieve a better specific impulse for the ramjet portion of the ascent.
      at the moment the technology isn't mature enough (ramjets are limited by aerodynamic heating and quite heavy for their thrust), but a better alternative to fully self-propelled rockets is needed - rockets are massive, dangerous and expensive, and minimising how much of them is needed is desirable.
      i'm not shilling for anyone as no one's planning on doing what I see as the best method for launches, and I don't think hermeus is at all aiming to launch anything to orbit. but once the tech develops we will, as a species, have unprecedented ease of access to space - and the possibilities from that are pretty endless.

    Hint, go back to using Leaded (Pb) anti-seize lubricants. Else, the metals will fuse at the high temperatures.
