😂 I love your videos Jason! Your brutal honesty about gear is so damn detailed and realistic. My wife is putting a stop to the “hunting gear buying”. I just got the beast stand last year and a saddle set up so I’m new to the mobile public land hunting tactics. I am more proud of the doe I killed this season in the beast stand being mobile than my biggest buck on private. I owe it to u and others from the Hunting Beast and Before the Echo. You three create the best videos imo. Love your videos man 👍
Thank you. Glad you are enjoying the content and congrats on the pubic land doe! She is the first of many!
The toe hook method is the only way I know and trust. You get your knee up on the seat, toe cam that sucker and feel it slide right into place love it
@rorynelson7548 great. I'm the opposite and if I have to toe hook a stand I'm selling it immediately.
Yesir once I put top strap on I pull down on seat post before I fold platform down. And give it a stop. Thanks Jason I enjoy your channel.
Works like a champ. This stand sure does bite hard and holds well. I love it.
The best review i have ever seen done on this stand.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it
This guy is always good, excellent channel and feedback. Seems like a very honest guy wanting to help us out if he can. Need more people like him doing reviews:)
I like my .5, made my own tweaks as well. Got to finish the video. Lol. Stealth stripped my seat, wrapped the outer perimeter with paracord, stealth stripped those common sharp edges. Added 1” spacers and a new grade 8 bolt on the cables at the seat post end, along with stealth strips on the cables. SAme tweaks as my old LW assault.
What kind of 1" spacers did u buy?
@@Im.hurtnLindaI had some harder plastic, can’t remember the type, 1” dia, by 1” wide. I turned them down and set the length on a lathe. Also had to get a 2” longer grade 8 bolt. I have this on a LW alpha assault since 2007, and now my .5. Just keep in mind you are modifying beyond what is tested. I weigh 203lbs, and have not had any issues. Getting the knob off
The bolt is tricky as well but can be done.
That spacer thing you sent me pics of was pretty cool and a great way to get more room between the cables on the smaller stands.
If you will make sure your bottom platform is not engaged at all when full tightening the strap the hand cam works every time. So basically raise the bottom platform up. Tighten strap last little cinch. Then push down and cam! Hope that helps a little!
Yep you are spot on. First stand I ever had that could be 100% locked with just camming by hand. Took me a bit to figure it out expecting it to be like all my other stands and having to do a light stomp to set it. When I realized that didn't work I did some jumps to see what it took to get it to slide. Then realized it won't slide at all. It needs to be cammed by hand. Then it worked flawlessly. Over 2 dozen set up with this stand since then. Never one needed anything other than cam setting by hand. Very impressive
@@SamkoTradBowI agree. The geometry of the stand allows it to cam perfect. It's a rock solid stand no matter the lean! It's hard to beat!
@@AERIALASSAULT1 yep uts very impressive
Great video as always. Like some others have said, flipping the seat pad should fix it. I wear the same pants as you. I also hang my stand while the platform is still folded so the teeth on the platform don’t prevent the top bracket from grabbing the tree. 👍🏼
Thank you. Gonna flip the pad and sew how that does! And your right the teeth on this stand are very aggressive. It will not slide. Took me a couple trees to figure that out. But now I hang it , snug it, fill platform up and tighten it then cam it over. Rock solid
Ditch the full length sticks and run their compact or double step sticks that are designed to integrate with the stand. Run an aider on each stick and get just as high as you would with your full length sticks, and achieve a much smaller profile. This would also allow you to ditch the pool noodle. The sticks are dead quiet on the stand. Also, I know that paracord cuts into your shoulder when hiking. the shoulder straps that came with that stand are much more comfortable, and because of their flat/wide nature, they dont twist.
Tried everything you mentioned. (mini sticks were not lwcg but still minis). I very much prefer my system. for me this is faster, safer than aiders high up, and works like a champ. but I appreciate the ideas. Thank you.
@@SamkoTradBow love the videos. Keep ‘em coming. 👊🏼
100% agree
For hanging my pack on the stand, I keep an S-biner in my pack that I broke the gate off of and twisted the hook a bit (for clearance). Fits perfectly into the bracket. Paracord loop works well too, but my pack already hangs annoyingly low.
I dont get into my pack too often when on stand so I prefer it down there out of the way of my bow limb. but I can see how it would be a pain if you were in and out of it all the time having to bend over to get it.
@@SamkoTradBow Definitely understand that! I literally take my columbia off to don a puffy under that, put on snowpants/balaclava, water/food, boot covers, ghillie pants/jacket, headlamp etc. If it's in my pack, I'm probably using it while in the tree. Sounds ridiculous as I type it out, but I've got it down to about 3-4min.
@@JulienKozak I miss hunting in the snow. But definitely don't miss all those layers on and off 4 times a day😂
@@SamkoTradBow Me too man, it's not snowing in WI this year apparently!
@@JulienKozak cold with no snow is no fun. Atleast the snow makes the cold tolerable😂
I have a .5 and just practiced with it so far and I’ve noticed the same gap in those upper teeth and the tree.
Yep this stand really likes pressure on the seat when you cam over the platform
Good video! I think you convinced me to stick with my beast stand.
The beast stand is an excellent stand.
Looks like an awesome good stand and I’m sure you’ll get it all figured out I always lock mine in with your “new” cam method. I kinda use it to ratchet it down raising and lowering it couple time with down pressure. And sometimes I have to lift platform to be able to release the buckle.
Yep this stand hand cams perfectly and if it doesnt get 100% tight a quick stomp does lock it. hunted out of it quite a bit now and very impressed with it.
@@SamkoTradBow I have a hawk helium xl stand.
@@lugnutzz75 thats a fantastic stand!
With those small small trees would an extra cam buckle on the bottom help with the platform moving around
@christophertowsley8563 yes it would help. Not eliminate it but definitely help
If you haven’t stealth stripped the seat try and putting the seat pad on upside down. The other side has a quieter material on it.
Im going to try that. Thank you.
If u use both cams and lift the base of the stand first, the stand is dead solid w/o any movement when u climb on it
Just placing the order to LWCG your timing couldn't have been better with this. Want to get the stand to Finland for last weekends of the season. In the end it was the winter boots for dealing with 0F weather that tipped me to 1.0 over .75. Sure, being able to get between tighter branches might help occasionally but if I understand right the bracket itself is exactly as wide between the two so maybe the difference isn't even that huge where I'll be able to fit in.
I got an answer to few questions from LWCG also, their opinion was that toe hooking is absolutely ok to do if the bracket isn't tight after hand camming. I don't really understand why you're so much against it, jumping on it seems even more dangerous. But their own instruction video says to hand cam it and that seems to work. What I see looking lot of reviews is those who seem to need to do the toe hook every stand are kinda sloppy getting slack out of the strap before trying to set the stand and that probably has lot to do with it.
Anyways, thanks for your work here.
Dude, UA-cam needs more vids of bowhunting in Finland! I wish it was allowed in Norway :( maybe someday
I don’t toe hook anymore either. It puts stand and you in a very unstable position. I’ve had my stand try to kick out on me. Even with harness on it’s not a good feeling and very hard on the arms and shoulders, because your instinct is to tense up and grab tree.
I have never had branches ever get in the way of my assault (same size as the 1.0) where I wished it was narrower. my beast stand was much narrower and never once thought "thank god i have this narrower stand". so I dont think it will be an issue for you.
the toe caming bothers me becuase it could easily be desgned out of stand. no rason for it. luckly this stand doesnt need it. the hand caming works excellent. I would not ever jump on a stand like I was in the video but was trying to learn it and see what it required. toe caming the way people do it with the knee on the seat, weight up high about the strap and extending out to toe hook while balancing on an unstable stand is just bad in my opinion. Good news is I have thought about it and have a better way for people that want to toe hook a stand. video coming out soon. its already made I just need to finsish editing it.
@@dannyspiker1549 Yep not a fan of tow hooking. but there is a much better and safer way to do it and I have a video coming out on it soon.
@@SamkoTradBow I agree it shouldn't be necessary. I don't have huge experience hanging stands. XOP Vanish I tried to set up needed some toe hooking but it also has an offset bracket that hangs up easily and fairly round teeth on the platform. Not my stand so can't take a file to it. Anyways, I was tethered with rope fairly tight so I'd see it fairly safe situation.
Chamfering the teeth on the offset bracket still seems like good idea. Tempted to try it on the Ambush platform but I have a feeling I'm selling it soon. There's so much I overlooked about hang-on stand when I decided to start from a saddle. Would be nice to make a video about my experience with both after a while.
Have you noticed that on bigger diameter trees, the bottom rocks a little bit because just the two endpoints are touching
yes. that happens with every stand I have ever used though.
To fix the seat noise just flip the pad over and use the fabric side of the pad.
That is on my list to try. Like i said it might just be my nylon pants I wear. its hot down hear so nylon breathes and drys fast.
I had the same issue with nylon hiking pants I wear early season. Flipping the pad over solves it. I wonder if thats why they have the different materials on the the pad.
@jessewolfe9589 yep I will be trying that before my 4 day deer hunt next week. Brilliant idea
Camlocking with your toe is probably quieter than jumping on the stand. Also the amount of force thats generated on the platform, cables, and straps by jumping on the platform might not be as safe as toe hooking.
Try putting the strap around the tree with the platform and seat vertical. Once tight, pull down on the stand by hand and then lower the platform.
i would never jump on a stand like that at height. I was trying to learn what it takes to get it to slide. Hand caming in like you said is the way to do it. If a stand would of required me to jump on it like that or to have to toe hook it I would of sold it.
@@SamkoTradBow I gotcha. I know you know your stands. Really liking the looks of the 1.0 myself, but being a short guy, I'm not sure I want to part with the carry length of the .5. Used to carry the alpha, so I know it's doable.
@J155P I know alot of guys that love thr .5! And the beauty of these lwcg stands is they make all different sizes and options. It's a brilliant stand and I'm super impressed with it. And it's been a long time since I seen stand that can be cammed by hand and bite that hard. I have been modifying stands with Chambers for almost 20 years to get then to lock tight to a tree without tow hooking. This is the first stand I've ever used that can be set tight by just caming by hand. It's a great stand that comes in a huge variety of sizes to fit anyone's needs.
this man aint hiking far
wait, that was rude. I am assuming. Let me ask the question. How far are you packing this setup on average? It appears that it would be difficult if I had a real hike in front of me.
most of my mid west spots are 1-1.5 miles deep. My swamp set ups in georgia are often 3 miles deep. I also hang over 100 stands a year. I hunt 5 states all public and have been doin this for 32 years. all fully documented on my patreon channel.
I have 8 saddles, 7 stands, 10 sets of sticks and have tried everything out there. If i choose this set up its for a reason and what I like best. I can get from standing at the base of the tree to in my stand with my bow in my lap in 3 mins. also shown in videos.
@@SamkoTradBow 3 minutes?!? That is incredible. I clearly have not tried your setup but from the looks of it, just seems like it could be a pain to pack. The longer sticks. The one armed sling to carry the gear over the shoulder. idk but I do not have the experience you do.
Jason in a video a while back you were talking about your arrows. You said you were using a 500 spine arrow, 57# draw weight and total arrow weight over 700 grains. I didn’t hear you give the arrow length, but I don’t understand how that arrow isn’t way to weak? I’m trying to decide what spine to get for my next arrow purchase, and I don’t see how you can shoot a 500 at that poundage, and total arrow weight? What am I missing here?
Loll it's because he ueses 2 inserts that take up 5inches of shaft combined with a short arrow length that 500 spine arrow is now similar to a 340
I shoot a hill bow not cut to center and my custom made inserts are 3 inches long and I shoot a 27 inch arrow with only 24 inches of flexable shaft. my arrows are not ones you want to base and decisions on.
@@jhuntley575 spot on
Got a video on the paracord system?
Sorry I missed this. I do have a video on it called paracord stand straps. If you search that on my channel it will pop right up
My lone wolf straps are shiny.
Are you only running one strap for securing stand? Was wondering if my xop would be ok to do it that way?
Yes i only run one strap. You can run your xop with one or 2 as well. just keep in mind 2 is always better than 1. but one works great. just becareful and make sure you are always wearing a harness.
@@SamkoTradBow Ok, cool I’ll probably stick with 2 straps (I’m rather hefty!). Was just thinking one less strap would be a little quicker. Thanks!
@@dannyspiker1549 1 would be a minute quicker but thats about it. Nothing wrong with running 2 and the bottom one will help prevent stand kick out or rolling as if keep the platform locked tight in place.
Pride...before the fall. These stands aren't made to be jumped on, and doing so is only asking for trouble. Hand cam it, toe cam it, either way the proper thing to do is to cam the bottom end....and not by jumping on it. A lot of folks emulate you; you're well versed in many things hunting. Be mindful of that Sir. Thanks as always for the candid review.
The jumping on it was to see what it would take to get it to slide. I said right in the video I would never jump on it like that and if it required that I would sell it. and from an engineering stand point the jumping is less stressful than toe hooking it. But fortunately this stand only needs to be hand cammed to set it. If it required toe hooking I would sell it. Any stand that can not be set by hand or with a quick one footed stomp before getting into it is a bad design and I would not own it. This jumping was testing this stand to see what it needs and how it works. by the 3rd tree I had it all figured out and no need to toe hook it.
The beast stand will clamp tight as crap on any of those trees lol
Yes it will. I much prefer the way the beast stand slides and locks to the tree over the bite and dig style of the lwcg. But the beast stand is not wide enough for me. I had the beast and used it for 2 years and loved it. Until I moved to georiga and now I hunt in snake boots and hunt specific feed trees and need to spin on stand alot. the beast is too narrow for me.
@@SamkoTradBow
Be nice if they made a beast stand the size of 1.0
@@bluegrassdroneguy3495 I asked them if they were gonna make a wider one before I bought the LWGC
I know you like your original lone wolf sticks, but you are missing out on the complete system.
Maybe. But I love my original 32 inch sticks and I just can't justify spending 500 bucks for sticks that are shorter and weigh the same. The lw original sticks are the best sticks for my style of speed and efficiency and my budget.
@@SamkoTradBow I know the season is winding down, but if you’re interested in trying them out I would send you mine. 3 full length sticks. To be honest no tree stand/sticks is worth what they cost nowadays
@Wiscobowhunt appreciate that tremendously. But honestly I don't want to try them. I love my system and I have 3 sets of the original lw sticks. I don't even want to experiment or mess with another type of stick. These have worked flawless for me for 20 years and will probably be the last sticks I will ever use. Especially with the costs today. Making a living hunting doesn't pay well😂😂
You were all about beast stand best thing since sliced bread, what happened lol
The beast stand is and always will be amazing. I loved it. But I need more room between the cables now that I'm in snake boots all the time. And absolutely love this 1.0. It's size is perfect and still very light
@@SamkoTradBow If you weren’t in snake boots all the time, would you stick to the beast stand? I’m trying to decide between the .75 and the beast stand.
@@Arkie_Outdoors before i used my assault again because of the snake boots I would of said yes id keep the beast stand. But once I went back to my assault after 2 years on the beast stand I immediately appreciated all the extra room and ease of turning around on the stand. Since I did that I decided i dont want a narrow stand anymore. I dont mind carrying the weight. I want the space and freedom of movement.
@@SamkoTradBow I appreciate the reply. I’ve got a couple Assaults. They’re one of the best stands made and for someone that doesn’t want to drop $500+ on a new one, you can find them used for half that.
@@SamkoTradBow Now that I go back and look at the specs of the assault, I’m not sure why I’m looking to spend $500+ on a new one, haha.
curious to why you refuse to toe cam?
Its not a safe practice to teach. the way people do it with the knee on the seat balancing all their weight above the strap and extending to hook the platform while releasing the platform teeth is asking for a roll out. and its easy to make a stand so it can slide and not need it.
I don't do a full toe cam where I lift the platform completely up but even just a slight lift with your weight on the seat really gets my .5 to bite hard. Not insulting your intelligence just was wondering your take on it. @@SamkoTradBow
Those tabs are the stupidest thing ive seen on the stand!
I would not ever use them. But probably very handy for someone to wrap thier haul up rope that wants it with the stand
Watching you bastardize this stand is like watching someone lower a brand new truck….
are you talking about the chamfer? if so trust me, all stand should come this way. And i hardly think a couple licks with a file is as serious as you make it. But hey, if it makes you feel better more power to ya.
