Version 1.0.1 IS good to GO! Please read the statement from Radioddity addressing bricked radios: www.radioddity.com/blogs/all/update-for-x6200-customers
I don’t have my license yet, but I appreciate when you do technical reviews of radios like these. I find the features, functionality and general grading of the device highly helpful for the any future purchase 👌
Until they get closer to meeting the functionality they profess and the quality/consistency of the IC-705, it’s just a good inexpensive radio with a nice screen.
Hi, could SWR movememnt be because meter only reads as power is going out and power only goes out as you talk on SSB, as you know, so inbetween voice peaks power varies and also as you stop speech as you take a breath, even a short one. Many thanks from Nr Chester.
Is there a CW tuning indicator ? Even though I am a seasoned CW OP, it is nice to have a correct tuning indicator…..I’ve gone through all the selections and not found it…72’s, WB4BBF
I returned mine for a few reasons including a DC power issue and also disliked the beta nature of the firmware. I bought the FT710 aess for only £180 more. An altogether superior transceiver in every way and well worth the extra few £
I have the 705, decided to bypass beta Chinese radios and glad I did super radio and doesn't need constant updates and tweaking , that drives me insane but I understand people like that sort of thing. The same reason I sold my Sun SDR 2 DX 100w because of all the software and tweaking and got the FTDX-10, amazing radio.
Thanks for the review. I was just about to update to the new firmware but as you know it's been removed. Could it be because of the fluctuating swr problem that you mentioned?
The compression switch is reversed I had to return mine as it bricked on the second V1.01 update. It would give me more confidence in the software if they would increment the version number.
The August 1st V1.0.1 update did not work on my X6200. Fortunately, I was able to revert to V1.0. Problem not solved with the August 1st re-release of V1.0.1.
@@TechMindsOfficial After inserting the SD card with a V1.0.1 image and turning on the radio, there was no script indicating the radio was updating. The screen remained black while the radio made intermittent clicking noises. The screen illuminated briefly for about 3 seconds with partial information (no waterfall) but quickly went back to a black screen. After a few minutes, the radio turned itself off and would not turn on. I made an SD card bootable image of the V1.0 software and installed it using the instructions for the upgrade. The radio appears to be working normally. I’ll ops-check it later today. Very unnerving experience.
I would say the Mic EQ is driving any improvements. I could not tell a difference between compression on and off without Mic EQ, but certainly could with Mic EQ on.
The compressor on seemed to make no difference to what I describe as muddy audio. It is the EQ that seems to give the audio a boost. Still wouldn't be my cup of tea..
Both on is margianally best and much better than nothing on followed just by EQ on. With both off it sounds muddy. Compressor on it's own did not do anything. A very disappointing device. 73 M7BLC.
Given that the 6100 is $465 on amazon business and that the G90 is exactly $400 on ebay, it's really a big ask to pay $750 to $800 for the 6200 when you can buy a Yaesu FT-710 Field for $870. I think the 6200 a big miss by Xiegu. If they gave you IC-705 performance and quality, for anything under $1000, I think they'd have had a huge win on their side. The 6200 is just too expensive for what it is. Drop the price to $650 and sell thousands. The 6100 has it's issues, but it's sexy and portable. The G90 seems to be loved by everybody, for $400 ish, how can you go wrong with either? And the FT-710 is just a sweet radio. Albeit bigger, but not by much and still usable for POTA. For $870 it's like the silkiest smooth chocolate that you can buy.
I have to say I'm pleased with my X6100 and am not sure I want to lash out on the X6200 yet. I liked the G90 up to a point but the small screen and noisy receiver put me off. In the video enabling the EQ and processor certainly made a big difference. MM0KJJ

Good video. The comp and TX Eq sounds like it does really help

Compression and EQ together sounds the best
Sorry I missed the firmware update. the compressor and mic eq seems to improve the audio quality significantly!
Thank you!

Unfortunately I have no details on why it was removed, other than the engineers said "it wasnt ready"... Hopefully we will get some more news soon.

Cant choose between X6200 and Discovery TX-500, any suggestions?
SWR is flicking, probably because Forward and Reverse power are sampled at different times.
CU on the BANDs de AF6SA.
Both on was best 😊
I was wondering about getting one of these for use in the Philippines but looking at your temp sensor, maybe it will be too hot!

Didn't work in what way? To be able to down-grade, it must of upgraded.

anyone thinking that progress bar looked a LOT like the linux tool pipe viewer or pv?
The radio runs linux
Radio has good audio
Miss your old intro song
you got to have license for this
I heard they have removed the new firmware
I've been on the Radioddity website and the update is no longer available. I've contacted Radioddity directly by email and I hope they respond.
Yep! No idea why as of yet, apart from engineering have said "It's not ready"...!!
compressor didnt seem to help at all but eq made it much better
I think i prefer the x6100 lol
Regressing my radio to version 1.0 caused the radio to be perma-bricked.

Hrm i guess they gave up on the X6100 :/

The G90 will always get my vote and given the choice between all three, G90 every time. At least until better firmware is available for the 6200.
@@TechMindsOfficial Agreed.

I have the x6100, but I'm still not sure if I should take the jump to the x6200.
Thanks for the video 👍
