1) There is a hotkey to highlight all gatherable items and containers. This makes gathering mushrooms and berries very easy. You can find it in the settings menu. 2) for melee characters I suggest getting a free crossbow or maybe bow (only with skill „take aim“) from the guard in the 1st floor as a secondary weapon so you always have the opportunity to open the fight in your favor. 3) A very good food source are birds. Just hit them once with bow or crossbow and right click The gathered bird to get the meat. 4) Right now it is possible to steal items from containers and put them right back in the container. So the items are marked as stolen but you don’t carry them in your inventory. The items are saved in the container and the timer starts to count down to remove the stolen status. Just come back in a few days and check if you can pick everything up :)
@@DeadEndGoose another 2 pro beginner-friendly stealing tips are: - if you happen to have to carry stolen item around, make sure to avoid contact with guard cuz they'd randomly ask to search you. If u have shit on you, u'd be fined or put to jail and lots like tons of reputation. - there are two high quality loot-able place: the mill (on the left tile of Osbrook) which has tons of good food with no guard whatsoever, and the elder's room which often contains lots of valuable stuff like bison horn, random pelts or fabric. Make sure to wait till night, scout around for guards b4 entering the elder's building and use the exit way that lead directly outside to avoid the guards at the first floor then run straight to the inn where u can store or hard-earn valuables. If u happen to encounter any guard AT ALL, consider the sleep place of the drunken dude as a good hiding place.

The treasure item Drinking horns can, fittingly, be filled with water like the flask. They contain the same number of drinks, and both take up 2 spaces, but the drinking horn is horizontal, which allows it to fit in your inventory better with sausage and hams, the best long journey food items
Just got this game. I got to level 2 just fine staying away from animals and doing the mayor's first quest with extra care (took two trips to go sleep). Getting to level 3's a freaking pain though... 2 wolves will massacre me, random-ass bandits are harder to find than... something hard to find, and the other quests throw too many bodies at you. I'll give caltrops a try.
The video is old. Honestly wish I had more productivity to make a replacement. Bear traps are much easier to come across and multi-use repaired by blacksmiths and effective ;) Wolves are really swingy. Don't know your build but if they hit hard enough it doesn't really matter what you do. Defacto easiest way to play stoneyshard is to use LOS blocking objects to alert enemies one at a time, funnel enemies, and use items. But you'll also get experience as you play, and better gear
The only time you can steal successfully is to wait when the npcs are away or asleep and eat food. Taking out loot would be difficult if not possible in Brynn because guards routinely frisk you to check if you were naughty. Also the Brewery quest has a side quest by talking to the carpenter who will let you in on what is actually going on in the brewery. If you do this, the brewery becomes available to you to buy beer kegs for profit.
@@DeadEndGoose Here's more tips: Fields will likely spawn snakes and after CoG patch they are the bane of your existence if you don't bring antidotes. You can avoid them by using Examine skill and once they are discovered you can chase them away. The Witch curses you and your items if you steal from her so don't do it unless you are prepared to go shameless and naked for her nice staff and hat. The mansion PoI has a secret base beneath the rubble but a Ringleader will gangbang you when you try to leave with the door hitting your ass on the way out. The backpack can be found either in the Hermit's Hut or when you finish the bailiff's bribe in Brynn (it's cheaper to do this after completing a quest with the quartermaster and shop when it's nighttime in their homes). It's better to bring 2 waterskins and traveling the map means finding a camp and a water source are vital pit stops to leave unspoilable supplies like more waterskins, medicines and smoked hams so you can continue traveling around the area unless your equipment needs repair from a blacksmith. The PoIs down the road can include two inns that are great bases to save your game and buy food so you can explore the vicinity plus the Rotting Willow Inn has npcs that sells buff drugs and buys cursed items for near full price. Or sometimes you'll bump into abandoned hamlets that were forced into misfortune but they provide campfires to cook your meat or wells to fill your water so you can continue your journey a little longer. You can leave items inside any crate as opening them and leaving your items there are not considered crimes but stealing from them when someone is around or if being frisked means "Stop right there, criminal scum." In Osbrook, Brynn and just like real life, it is cheaper to buy meat from the butcher than it is to buy restaurant food. All you need to do is bring it in the inn and shamelessly home cook food and eat it with smug satisfaction in front of the innkeep as they can do nothing about it in the face of guest right. However, I have started playing again and one of the patches mentioned fields spawning more enemies. Hopefully why. 2) I was wondering if you can drop all your gear before walking in, so nothing gets cursed, aside from yourself. 3) def need to get the backpack for once 4) I've also never seen an inn, started searching in Arna playthrough. Have definitely used campsites, and the siege camp Poi is pretty cool 5) Never even thought to try this, tbh the most I usually steal are the food spawns so they don't go rotten, it bothers me 6) I actually had the meat thing in the video, but I did a second pass and went "what are some absolutely essential things I wish I knew when I started playing?" So either I didn't like the take I did, or I cut it out. I think it would be nice to make a followup vid based on some of these things, but let's see if my New Year's work ethic holds up :)
Sometimes if I leave my pc and it goes idle the screen will shrink into a window and I can't properly do anything because the cursor will only cover a small bit of the screen so I can't exit out without force closing it effectively wasting time If you press ALT+Enter you can resize the screen back to full you might have to press it twice
I have the away feature set for far too long to have noticed, but ALT + Enter is a somewhat default command. You'll probably find it works with a lot of old games. I have actually had this issue on startup recently. Why? No clue. Sounds frustrating :/

I would say if you go ranged for first, make absolutely sure your starting character has the ranged skill tree, and start with aim . I’d say dagger secondary is easiest to learn. Remember you can switch load outs (daggers can switch without using a turn with skill!) , and free weapon from guard in osbrook. Knight would probably be either shield and one handed, or two handed. Combat mastery? I played Arna like a psychotic medium armor duelist with a claymore lol! Hope that’s helpful
Update: The archers that kicked my ass were much higher level than myself AND were right outside of town. But I Showed them: That save is collecting dust while I play a dual wield character.

I don't remember how it works for the prelude, but it's weirdly hard. I would almost say to my recollection it's harder than playing the actual game. There was a patchnote a while ago about rebalancing it? But i actually havent played it in a long time
Alright I’m not quite sure, but I would say before you go any further, try saving that character or save + exit. Start new game with dirwin just to experiment and see how it works. From what I recall you can simply put arrows in the other slot and shoot that way. Try buying a quiver and using that with dirwin save. I know to shoot some things like birds you need to ctrl click or something to engage the combat cursor. Not at my PC right now but hope that helps, and hope you/stoneshard aren’t bugged :/
