They have people who are on the chart complete cyber by all readings and yet completely fine, they are treated like they are on probation. Cyber can be “fixed” by memory wiping the brain and/or growing fresh meat for the person. If this condition was a real condition like ptsd then they would still have measurable effects post meat/memory wipe but they don’t/can’t. That girl with the mantis blades gets her memory wiped and becomes a cop that you meet in a side mission btw

David has shown to be pretty well off in chrome, he only got bad because he began to overtax himself and started getting super stressed. So yes, he is a certified badass. You know what as much as I hate the fact David got chromed up just like Maine did, his little speech exemplified why he did it. He's "Special", even the Ripper Doc says he's "Built Different". Obviously it went to his head, and made him think he was immune to Cyberpsychosis and even though it Obviously wasn't the case, his arrogance wouldn’t let him accept that he had limits. I admit, I do really hate how we go from Maine's death to David getting mostly chromed up, because, he's supposed to be smart. At one point I recall his mom saying he was a straight A student at Arasaka academy, so you'd think seeing his Older brother figure go crazy right before his eyes would make him second guess getting so many implants. Or at the very least, you'd think Lucy would express concern with how many implants he's gotten.
After Maine died, David wanted to follow his footsteps. To show that he can do better. Even Falco said in ep 7: “You might fly higher than Maine ever did” And yes, seeing someone go through sane to cyberpsycho should make David not go with more chrome. But there WAS a time skip. And I think it was ep 8 when David started to have problems. I think of the factors of trying to be better than Maine plus the fact that he a higher tolerance to chrome that he didn’t see anything effects that bad (I’m thinking of his use of the sandy in ep1-6), he thinks that he will never go cyberpsycho. But he did soon enough. Also I think David would have lasted longer if there wasn’t some much trauma he had to experience -trauma with dead mom -trauma with torture with the BD -trauma due to Maine’s death -completely making himself almost all chrome - *HE PUTS ON THE FUCKING MILITARY SPINE AND USES 5+ TIMES A DAY*

Like a glove and spandex it does. All David wanted post time skip was to save as many of his friends (they were his literal family at that point) as he could, and he didn't have any real goals for himself, just everyone but himself.
It's honestly wild how completely different the dialogue is from the sub to the dub. Like it's not even the same scene, he has a completely different monologue with a different meaning and different progression of his character.
Like the dub is "no holding back, no doubters to hold you down now, show them what you are" And the sub is "that's right, easy does it David. No one here to slap sense into you now. Gotta make a choice. You're special right?
My guess it’s to better cater to the different types of audiences. The dub is mostle for people from north america, where they are “decisive, straightforward and with a hero complex”, and the sub is more japanese people who usually have this more “philosophical, think things through, more laid back” view of things. It is honestly incredible if this was intentional, how they manage to better relate their characters to their audience with such a slight shift in dialogue.
I know a lot of people think David’s death is stupid and that he had reasons to go a different path. But his mom died and when things probably should’ve ended soon after Maine got him a new lease on life. The rush he got living that life and getting w Lucy. But then Maine died and the grief of losing loved ones probably only hit harder. I know from experience that he probably didn’t have much to live for at that point except for other people, and he did that in his own way by “acheiving” their goals
Not to mention the goal his mother wanted for him was a sure way of getting him killed or living on the streets as well. Corpos do not take kindly to "outsiders" trying to take a slice of their pie, and will murder people within the same company to assure their own place and luxuries.

It might just be me, but whenever I listen to English dubs, I feel like I'm hearing the same voice actors no matter which show I watch. It's as if the English dub is always done by the same team of voice actors.
