    You have a better voice than that bot you were using. Before you start making a video, make every thing bigger. We can't see anything lol.

    I'll be using my system as a server so other computers on my network can remote. In this case do i need the firewall turned off for it to work?

    • @KrystalOfComputer
      @KrystalOfComputer  8 місяців тому +3

      It's (almost) never a good idea to just leave your firewall off, because that increases your attack surface a lot - especially if your machine will be online. Its munch better to set up your firewall so it lets your machines (ones you own and want to connect) in and no one else, as well as taking some other security precautions. But all this depends on what you want to do, how you want to do it, and how safe you want to be. You can start by reading up on opening ports in Linux firewall, black and white lists of IP addresses, and SSH security. Also Linux Mint isn't that great for a server OS, Ubuntu server or Debian server are better suited for that, in general terminal only server OS-es work best. But again, it depends on what you wanna do and how you want to do it, Linux is all about choices after all.

    Daily snapshots on mint is excessive IMO.
    Mint is not a bleeding edge distro, its not like an update will kill your system like what might happen on arch, if you are the type that tweaks config files, you would normally make backups as just a precaution.
    Weekly timeshots are fine.

    • @KrystalOfComputer
      @KrystalOfComputer  8 місяців тому

      I see you never thought that this "small" change cant really mess anything up, but then it did. Daily snapshots were a lifesaver for me multiple times, if you feel you don't need them great. But as i said, this is just how i do things!

      gotta say that although I back-up daily, and a lot of the time, WTF.?... it has saved me a few times over the last 4 or 5 yrs that I have been using LINUX MINT..... so if you want daily back-up and feel better with them.... just do it. F everyone else.

      I haven't seen any Linux distro in the past 10-15 years that didn't get killed by updates. So, no, that's not good advice. The best advice is to never update your distro. It either works or it doesn't. After an update it will be broken beyond repair for sure.

    • @colonelfustercluck486
      @colonelfustercluck486 8 місяців тому

      sorry but your advise doesn't agree with my experience. I have found the updates worthwhile and never broken anything doing an update on Mint. I've 5 years experience on Mint, doing upgrades as and when they turn up.
      And you've been 'linuxing' for 10-15yrs destroying linux sustems by upgrading?? Wish I had time to ask 'How'.............@@lepidoptera9337

    How about zooming in so we can actually see and read what the hell you're doing.
    Believe it or not, adjusting the resolution on one's phone via the UA-cam application or even the desktop site doesn't do. Jack crab to help us read the text on your screen depending on which window you have pulled up.

    Can MINT "Snapshot" save and restore to an external USB drive instead of just a Partition on your MINT drive?
    Can your MINT drive snapshots create and restore from another installed internal drive on your computer?
    I realize you would have to have any external drive connected and running at the time of any Snapshot creations or restores. An additional Internal drive other than your Linux MINT drive, would be the best place to keep your MINT "snapshots" .... if it is permitted!

    • @KrystalOfComputer
      @KrystalOfComputer  8 місяців тому +1

      Yea you can use any other drive or partition . I keep my system snapshots on a second internal drive. You have the right idea!

    • @colonelfustercluck486
      @colonelfustercluck486 8 місяців тому

      yep....... in the snapshot 'set up', you can connect an ext. disk / ssd....... as long as it is formatted properly......... and set the TIMESHIFT to send the info to your ext.disk/SSD. As I am doing, and just did a back up right now. I do a TIMESHIFT.... and I also do an APTIK back up. So I do it twice using 2 seperate systems, to an ext drive. So it's like having a belt, and braces...... you are very well backed up , should you have a computer problem.
      (Note the APTIK is "paid for" software, but well worth it. IT has saved my arse a couple of times, easy to use. Your choice..... use the terminal, or maybe to save time, you may want to use the GUI. It has regular updates/upgrades, and the author/provider actually answers questions and is generally helpful........

      Well first of all, I can't answer all your questions because it would take a few full tutorials to answer them all, some of which I plan on doing soon so stay tuned. But I will try to point you in the right direction. For your gaming problems, some games just work on Linux, some will have trouble, there are many tricks to get them to work, and some will just not work. You need to read up on: Proton, Wine, Lutris, and DXVK. Googling that will point you in the right direction for setting up games. Until you learn all that, it's probably best to dual boot with Windows but use Linux as much as possible. You can use Windows like your gaming console for games that have trouble on Linux, until you get it all working on Linux. Next about your drives and paths, you can use Disks (an app in Linux Mint) to set them up to auto mount on system startup, and then they will be ready and mounted whenever you need them. The full name of this app is Gnome Disks (it's on Linux Mint Cinnamon, don't worry) and googling "Gnome Disks automount" should give you results explaining how to do what you need. And remember linux is new and different os its normal to be a bit lost at first!

      As for a dark mode on Firefox, you can use add-on called "Dark Background and Light Text" to change colors of the page and text to whatever you want, defaults are dark mode colors. That should help, also for Firefox GUI there is a dark theme you can use. Hope this helps!

      Sure until you need to use software that is not available in the Apple ecosystem, then just like in Linux. You have to look up search and translation or virtual visation or AP. I. Conversion software to make sure the software you can't live without actually runs
      Then you realize for the vast majority of cases. You will end up at a dead in unlike in the Linux world.
      And also until you get ready to do simple things such as transferring files from your iPhone.
      To any other computer other than Mac? How much of an idiotic headache can be because of how cryptic Mac choose to label they're files in iOS.
      Then you gotta look up some form of transferring or conversion Software tool
      Connect any android phone to a linux distribution installed p c and it is plugged employee period
      Worst case is you may need more creditor which is easily found in easily installed without a hassle.
      I have set it before and it warrants being said again
      The only sensible reason to buy a Mac computer is for content creation involving video audio or photo. Editing and that act actually makes you money... Because sincerely, even to this day, final cut pro x is still king of the content creation software world because of how well it's built and how efficiently it runs with the designed hardware with it.
      It's just like car a k ultima bill shopping
      When you actually grow up and get over your feelings and fan voltism. You learn that every single vehicle makes a models regardless of the generation of them all have their problems.
      So you have to eventually develop some critical thinking questioning skills to ask yourself. Quote which cars problems are the easiest to deal with in every context of the word. Especially including overall cost of ownership?
      So the answer to this question may change. Because over time you may actually get off your lazy complacent. Aspirin and learn how to do things. Learn how to replace certain things on your car. Then you realize quote well. I can choose this brand that is proving to be reliable in the most expensive and most complicated repairs. That say happy 1 day for a 100000 miles down the road. Because I can replace and repair everything else. And I will have a better quality of life and spend less time working on the car and less time. Fearing it will break down and leave me or my family stranded quote
      It's no different with learning how to use. What is supposed to be your own computer as well as actually being allowed to do such work. And repair
      Linux = YOU...not someone else..... Own your own computer.
      You are the driver
      Microsoft Windows and apple macintosh equals. You will own nothing and like it because we know what's best for you
      That has been a worldwide FACT for literally decades now
      You have homework to do
      Class dismiss

      And you could not be more incorrect on your number one on the windows part
      Most people
      Beginning setting up their computer as far as finding their files and putting them in a certain places and installing all the programs they normally use, which also involves usually downloading them. Trying to find the right sites
      So don't pitch any nonsense talking about windows. It's ready to work out of the box because it never is
      It is dependent upon the individual as the weather are not that true. That is the case and it doesn't matter which operating system world you are using
      This also has been a fact for many decades now
      So don't start selling such nonsense
      Do you see me tell every single windows? User that they can use lennox mint, cinnamon out of the box without learning how to set a few things up? No.
      But I politely pearled by them with a fax and offer any assistance. I can including walking them through baby step by baby step

      @@motoryzen Windows and OS X put YOUR files in either the documents or the desktop folders and you don't have to care where the application files are. That's a perfectly good strategy. Linux runs everything through a blender and then uses a random number generator to distribute them carefully and in a distro dependent way all over the hard drive. :-)
      Seriously, man, you need to stop pimping your OS. That's all just YOU being a control freak. None of it is useful advice on how to work with a computer.
