So many homeowners like using these door mounted hooks/brackets on hollow doors. It'd be nice if the door manufacturers would re-enforce that part of the upper door for these types of projects. BTW, thanks for a great video.
Great suggestion. Sticking a small piece of reinforcement on the back of the panel would cost next to nothing.
Like someone else wrote: SUPER HELPFUL. I liked the steady, calm and deliberate explanation. No frills on this video. Just what you need to know. I am about to put some Moen towel holders up and Moen did not give instructions on how to mount them on a hollow core door, nor did they offer anything when I called them. They only give instructions for mounting them on studs or on drywall. No support for hollow core doors. But with this video. I am 99% confident that this video's instructions *will* work. I am going to get some hollow core anchors with some 3X PL and follow these instructions. Pretty simple too. Put in the hollow core anchor. Remove it. Clean up the edges so that the anchor get re-installed a second time and be flush with this door surface. But before you put the hollow door anchor back a 2nd time, use a q-tip to put a small amount of PL glue on the anchor. Install the anchor. Clean up the glue that rises up a bit using a wet tissue. Bingo. You are done. You have your anchor and are ready to mount a screw to it.
The only drawback is that the use of the glue probably makes it impossible (or nearly impossible) to remove. Some other person made this comment. Yeah. Bet it is true. So you do want to commit when you put in an anchor this way, as getting it out without seriously damaging the door might be hard. On the other hand, having a hollow core anchor pull out is going to do quite a bit of damage too.
Had that problem myself.i used 4"× 1/2" flat face baseboard as a backing for my towel hanger.Painted and caulked,it got the job done
Toggler makes a plastic wing anchor (similar to a toggle bolt) designed specifically for hollow doors, it's much stronger than this type of anchor, and no adhesive needed. Just drill a 5/16" hole and install, simple. Also works with a wide range of screw sizes.
Also, you're a brave man to be handling such a strong polyurethane adhesive, with no gloves on!
the toggler will not work because it's meant for drywall, but you can use toggle bolts
Super helpful! Thank you!!
This is great. Thanks for sharing this. Hope you have a great weekend.
Very good... This is something that people search for. Well done... Give the people what they want... lol... Bloopers happen... Good one...
This is exactly what I needed to know as I'm trying to hang some door hooks. The PL tip.is excellent. Gonna try it!
I'd never heard of hollow wall/door anchors, nor PL adhesive, so this is great!
SUPER helpful - Thank you! Just used both tips to hang a set of spice racks on the inside of my pantry door. So solid!
Awesome video thank you
Good information
You can also use the clear Gorilla Glue if you don't feel like buying a giant tube of glue
This is probably one of the best diy videos that I have seen thus far.
Awesome dude,,,,,thanks for the info.
I liked the hacks.
Good idea using construction adhesive on the anchors! I've never seen that done before. I typically use wide thread screws and adhesive on the back side of the bracket I'm installing. Makes it impossible to uninstall, though
Excellent video, thank you. This gives me far greater confidence that my hook on a hollow door will hold securely. Great tips.
Hi From Stockton England, Thank You For Sharing Your Tips.
Great Presentation That I Could Understand, Will Be Using This
Technique. As I Need To Put A Towel Holder On My Bathroom Door.
Keep Safe, God Bless 💖🙏.
Fantastic! I'm glad you liked it. I hope you get your holder added to the door! Have a good weekend!
Great idea - thank you. I've used PL before but didn't think of using it for my towel hooks.
My hero. Fantastic hack for someone like me who can follow directions. This video was just as easy as can be.
Awesome video. I looked at several before I decided this was the way to go. I have some kind of plastic anchors that came with my robe hook, but think this will work better. Going to Home Depot tomorrow to pick up the hollow door anchors & PL. Thank you. 👍🏿
Thanks, you know that towel ring has not come loose once. It's as solid as the first day I installed it.
Seriously.. that is a good tip. If andy doesnt see this video? I'm going to look pretty brilliant when I do this next home lol lol 👍
Thanks for the tip! Should you let it dry before screwing or mounting?
Hmmm I have walls here in my rig that is hollow that I can't hang anything on. Will it work for me? Great info video!! ❤️😁❤️😁
Great VID, I'm looking to hang a COAT HOOK RACK on the back of our laundry door, the PL is an excellent idea.
Do the hollow door anchors come in different sizes? If so, how will I know which size to use for my robe hook?
How does one determine what size wall anchors to use for the screws provided? The instructions that came with my hook say to use a 4.8 mm drill bit when using the included plastic drywall anchor. The anchors I am seeing at the store come in sizes #6 and #8.
This worked great on my hollow door. My door is not as nice as yours. The wood splits as you are hand tightening the anchor in. Very low grade door they put in my house but this hack still worked. Thank you for showing us this.
Can you do the same thing with a fiberglass door?
This is so cool, would this work if mounting a spice rack to a hallow pantry door?
It sure would. Make you use the hollow door anchor with PL and you're golden
I am making a wood spice rack that i will be hanging on our pantry door (78-1/2" H x 34" W two panel door). Since with all the canned goods, oil bottles, etc. it will be quite heavy I am thinking of Injecting Expanding Foam into each hole and then do what you have shown in your video. What is your opinion? Thank you. PS: Please reply at your earliest 🙏
my door is completely hollow tried to drill a pull handle on no luck just goes right through so if you're able to drill a screw in it must not be completely hollow but I don't know much
P L ? Hollow door anchors? Thank you
Healthy processed with towel ring be done with a towel bar on wallboard
"bath season" ....am I doing it wrong everyday!!??? Thanks for the vid!!
I'm easily confused when it comes to basic tasks like this so forgive me. So, is it that you can't use a regular plastic anchor on a hollow door? Is that why you need a specific anchor for hollow doors? Also, can you use the hollow door anchor without using the PL? Thanks, I appreciate the tutorial.
The plastic anchor will fall out over time. The hollow door anchors work good but for assurance I add the pl. Mine still hasn't fallen out, it's still solid. You can buy PL in a squeeze tube as well. Thanks for watching.
@@Airbender24B I have some jb weld in the garage and I haven't used it yet. So I wouldn't be able to answer your question.
I want to hang a door mirror on a hollow bedroom door. Should I use the same process?
Sure and hopefully the mirror isn't very heavy. Add some of the PL adhesive and it should hold just fine.
And what happens when you want to replace that holder with something that the bracket doesn’t line up with? Will you be able to remove without damaging the door?
The anchors are already flush with the door. I'm sure it'd be easy to patch up
I’d just put a blob of PL on the hole and then roll the screw in it and screw it in.
… Savin a QTip
No, Toggle Bolts.
Still no match for two teenage kids. That’s why I replacing two bathroom doors.
Oh my gosh. They have specific anchors for this, and other faster ways to hang towel hooks a hollow bathroom door, just as strong.. If you did this on my crew you would be fired.
Sorry. Didn't mean to be rude. I'm sure for certain applications this will come in handy.
You would think installing a towel ring to a bathroom door would be simple but with these 2 tips you won't have to worry about your towel ring or bathrobe hook coming loose anymore. Watch more home improvement videos here: ua-cam.com/play/PLWeQZSOnzi9W7l820syVzx7xfDs_TQ_Ep.html
