  • Episode 6 (Of 10). Broadcasted in BBC-2, 14 February 1983
Making the Most of the Micro was a TV series broadcast in 1983 as part of the BBC's Computer Literacy Project. It followed the earlier series The Computer Programme. Unlike its predecessor, Making the Most of the Micro delved somewhat deeper into the technicalities and uses that microcomputers could be put to, once again mainly using the BBC Micro in the studio for demonstration purposes. The series was followed by Micro Live.

It's incredible that even in the 8bit age that computers had a huge impac in the business brance.

I vaguely remember watching these videos at school. At college, I remember creating spreadsheets and databases on the Beeb as part of Computer Studies at GCSE Level. I found the programming tedious and boring. At 46, I see it as a form of recreation. I own a BBC micro, which I plan to restore for nostalgia reasons. Looking back, even though I was a C64 kid, BBC was probably the best micro.

***** You'd be lucky to get ANY audio of this let alone better than here. I highly doubt the BBC even have this footage any more. The BBC had a terrible habit of reusing tapes and erasing hundreds of hours of classic programming just to save money on new tapes.

+CowLunch They'd stopped doing that by the early 80s. From what I've seen, I'll be surprised if this is missing. They've certainly uploaded one episode to iPlayer (perhaps that was the one they had to pull out when they were making Micro Men).
Re the audio, it's odd, it sounds like a digital cut-out. Perhaps there's something in the audio path that's detecting excess static and just cutting the audio out rather than letting it play. I feel if that were removed, although it might get a bit annoying for headphone users, it would be more watchable.

Looking at all this I have a feeling the computers today are over powered to do basic tasks

A microcomputer, the predecessor to what we now call Personal Computer (PC). But in my country 'micro' is short for microwave oven 😆
