Nah, just fire em', put leaders in there instead. all they can do is talk, hence their name. And why are they in charge of such important things, oh wait theyre not, we are!! we pollute it we can stop it
Wetlands are awesome. One of the reasons why many were drained in the United States, with the use of field tiles, was to create upland to grow grain. These soils are extremely productive. Here in Illinois half of the state was wet prairie. Now we have virtually none of this habitat because of farming.
Actually, he isn't playing a scientist. He's a science communicator, and an engineer. Engineers rely heavily on science and scientist for engineering calculations and designs. Taking a community college science class is going to be far more indepth than this show, but claiming what he says is unreliable for not being a "real scientist" is an ad hominem fallacy.
@@hillbillybuddha8183 Well, if people have the access to the internet to watch this video, they also have possibilites how to check the correctness of said information... And I also think, that it's really important to have people, who can explain science in a way that everyone, including children, will understand it.
this is still funny to this day. Bill Nye is a god among earth when it comes to teaching ground-level facts about...well, anything. also whoooo for wetlands
Please bring back Bill Nye into the 21 century. Wow!!!! That vid was recorded in 89? I wonder if UA-cam was available then? Imagine that was a Tik Tok vid back then.....hmmmmm.....that would have been priceless
Must have showed this to thousands of kids in the PNW and BC (Canada) as part of our Travelling Wetlands Roadshow (1991-1998). Says it all, does our Bill!
i love the intro: Bill, bill, bill bill. bill nye, the science guy. this guy is a true star. if only he had the intro. i am still disappointed with the jazz background muisic
...and that year the US passed a "no net-loss" policy which effectively halted the decline of the wetlands in the country. Remember when conservatives conserved things?
It is unfortunate that for the past 4 years they’ve been chanting “drain the swamp” rather than focusing on restoring the health of our political ecosystem.
i do not know about this so here is a link for everyone else who also did not know what no net-loss in 1989 meant: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_net_loss_wetlands_policy
all of u have posted comments from 1-5 years ago and no one is texting now for some reason, like i know it was like posted a year from i was born but man all dis is from a long time ago bruh im still in second grade !!!!!
They're not over-protected, they're under-protected! Hence why there are international agreements (RAMSAR) to encourage sustainable development and restoration. Most importantly, they're nursery grounds for lots of fish and store more carbon than land forests do.
+suilekelly that's not how permitting works. Certain activities such as agriculture and silviculture are allowed in areas that are currently or once classified as wetlands. Most impacts are from human development these days now that over half of the wetlands in the country are gone.
This is the best when ur in university and trying to figure out what a wetland is, thank u for posting this.
I'm in 3rd grade.
Can you imagine having Bill as your teacher? (College or otherwise)
LOL LOL
Every US politician should gather in the white house to watch 30 min of Bill Nye everyday....
Agreed
Nah, just fire em', put leaders in there instead. all they can do is talk, hence their name. And why are they in charge of such important things, oh wait theyre not, we are!! we pollute it we can stop it
Ahh back when science wasn't political. The good ole days.
Ah, so cool to see my hero, Bill Nye in his pre-Disney days. As hilarious and informative as ever!

why would be a dumb to have a wetland

Says the guy with out pants walking around a wetland in flippers.
he is so #$%!

I say they are over protected heck one can't even farm wetlands cause if they chopped the trees down they would go to jail.
They're not over-protected, they're under-protected! Hence why there are international agreements (RAMSAR) to encourage sustainable development and restoration. Most importantly, they're nursery grounds for lots of fish and store more carbon than land forests do.
cinnieism I doubt that because land forests have a higher density of plant life.
