I know this video is older, but when I first seen the stuff used in the video, I thought it was cat liter in that bag, not sand and I got so excited for a minute there...becasue I had found a blog YEARSSS ago that used kitty liter, NOT the clumping kind but the regular clay kind and she had gotten it Dollar Tree, she used it to age pots etc and for the life of me I havent been able to find that tutorial OR anyone else who tried it ever again and I did try it myself and it came out pretty good! The non clumping cat liter has clay (if you can find the ones without the colored crystals or scent crystals, its even better) in it & when I tried it (by the time I found the right cat litter) the blog was already gone...so I ended up crushing the clay down a bit then added it to paint and it actually worked pretty good. Id love to see someone else try it and see what they think. I dont think I crushed down enough of the clay lumps or maybe itd be better to dissolve in a little water bc the clumping got pretty big and it lumped up fast and I got nervous and tried to speed through it before it dried, but I always meant to try it again! The lady whose blog I found years ago used it to age terra cotta pots and it just looked SO real!
Use this on one of this big plastic flower pots and it will look like it weighs a lot more than it really does! I'll be checking this out for sure. Thanks.
I have all the ingredients on hand… just didn’t know I could mix them all together! Thank you so much for this video and straight forward instructions.
I finished another one last night, a lighter shade. I’m going to wait until I finish all 3 then decide how to fix the colors. It’s super fun, I think I did a bit better with the 2nd 1. Learning!
This sand painting would be perfect for my large plastic bucket planter. If I spray it with exterior varnish, will it be okay to place it in the open backyard garden?
I would like to do this with just regular sand and not add any color and apply it to some wood so that the background will look like the beach. Do I need to adjust any part of the recipe to make up for the lack of the 2T of liquid? Thank you for your time.
Thanks for watching! I am not sure if this will hold up . I have only used it on home decor projects not being in the elements. I would ask a paint specialist at Home depot or Lowes what would be the best for your project!
What about if you want it to look like the sand no color? And just the plaster would just make it look white. Do you think I could just mix sand with an acrylic sealer or finish?
Thank you for all of your tips! I can't wait to mix this up! My plaster seems to cure more quickly than yours(?) quickly How can I make this paint weatherproof after painted on wood?
Hi Deidre, I am so inspired by your ideas and that made me thinking of some crazy project - textured Hammerite (with sand). Have you ever try this kind of metal paint with any type of granules making it textured?
Thanks so much! This is brilliant! Would calcium carbonate would work in place of the plaster of Paris for this method?.I have calcium carbonate to make my own chalk paint because it is a much better additive for chalk paint but I am not sure how well it would work on glass. Thanks in advance and thanks again for the great tutorial.
I nearly missed this video! For happiness you referred to it in your video about coffee grind paint. But are great ideas. Most of the time you finish the jar with varathane. In this video you didn't mention it. Is it not necessary with this sand paint? Thanks for being such an inspiration. Now I just need some time.........
Thanks for watching my friend 🌸 this project I didn’t seal but that is just my preference. I find the sand paint doesn’t flake off and wanted the raw paint look
I have not tried it but worth a try. I have a older video making salt wash paint that is really cool also if you wanna check that out Kat ua-cam.com/video/GKvsDUlNWlc/v-deo.html
This is amazing. I’m going to be using this technique to create a cosplay for galaxycon 💗. I was wondering what the acrylic paint color was that you worked with?
I did one!!! It is fuuun! I used REALLY dark brown paint. So dark that I don’t like it. I’m thinking of adding sort of dashes, I don’t know how to explain it, in metallic gold. I don’t like the way distressing with a light color looks over this color. What about a sort of white wash? Making very thin white paint? Any suggestions? I could send you a picture on messenger if that helps. What color is the first one you made? That would look good on it too.

Thanks for watching ❤️ I haven’t tried on plastic. I think you would need to prime first. Let me know how it works out
Can you post s pic of the finished product. Would love to see it. Thanks Becky.

I love the texture that this creates. Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed.
This sand painting would be perfect for my large plastic bucket planter. If I spray it with exterior varnish, will it be okay to place it in the open backyard garden?
Yes, it should hold up pretty good as long as outdoor formula
Great!I have all ingredients. Just need the sand ! Love all your videos ty much
So fun!

Your welcome! Have a great day ☀️
Absolutely stunning. I like that look to
So ty for the video. I’ll be doing this.

Love this technique! 💕 Thanx for sharing.
Thanks for watching ❤️
Thank you for sharing another project idea ! I am watching your number of subbies grow .... congratulations !
Thanks for watching ❤️ slowly climbing it’s fantastic 🌸
By putting down a coat of the paint without the sand first, you will get better coverage. Then you won't need so much of the sand mixture.
Awesome definitely will try it thanks for sharing ❤
Blessings
You are so welcome
All ordered. I’m excited for this!
Thanks for watching!! You will have a lot of fun 🌸
I’m hoping to get after it, today. 🤞🏼
What a Unique look. Love it. TYFS (Pauline S)
Thanks for watching ❤️
Can I do this with my outdoor cement pots? I love your idea thank you for sharing
You can but under a patio or porch not right in elements and I seal with a poly acrylic sealer for outdoors
So happy to get this recipe.
Love using sand paint! Thanks for watching Lynda
It’s looks gorgeous ❤❤❤❤
Great... beautiful!!!
Love the pots...👍👍👍
Thanks so much 😊 Thanks for watching
Covering some Terra Cotta pots would be nice.
Yea sure would
Love the final look!
Thanks for watching Jean
Fabulous... Thank you so much for sharing.
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching Theresa
Looks fab .... how to make this weatherproof as I’m thinking of coating some large plastic tubs for the back garden - any tips? Thanks
Thanks for watching ❤️ I haven’t tried this technique on plastic or outside! If it works it would be fantastic. Let me know if you do 🌸
Thanks so much for the recipe. 👍👍👍👍♥️
My pleasure 😊 Thanks for watching ! Glad you enjoyed Shelly
Thank you for this recipe.
Thanks for watching ! Glad you enjoyed
Another great video from you!!
Thanks for watching ❤️ Glad you are finding lots of good content
I can't wait to use your recipe 😊
I love making sand paint have fun thanks for watching
Love the technique! Does it need to be sealed so it doesn't come off?
Yes, I like to seal mine with a poly acrylic sealer
Can’t wait to try this
Thanks for watching Jackie glad you enjoyed
You are awesome, so many new ideas, thanks!
Thanks for watching ❤️
Would you want to use a sealer afterwards if this is going to be outside?
Yes you would
I really like this technique. I have a lot of vases that I can use this on. Can this also be used on plastic?
Thanks for watching ! Isn’t it fabulous. I haven’t tried on plastic but if I did do it I would prime fist but not sure how well it would hold up ❤️
Does this chip easily. Is it really hard. I want to use it on cinder block
Yes, it’s very durable
I would like to do this with just regular sand and not add any color and apply it to some wood so that the background will look like the beach. Do I need to adjust any part of the recipe to make up for the lack of the 2T of liquid? Thank you for your time.
If you just wanted the same texture you could make sand in poly acrylic sealer and that might work for your project
So I have a tiny home made out of a school bus. I want to do this on the exterior side because I love this red sand in Utah. You think it would hold?
Thanks for watching! I am not sure if this will hold up . I have only used it on home decor projects not being in the elements. I would ask a paint specialist at Home depot or Lowes what would be the best for your project!

Cut back on the POP if to thick and you can seal with a poly acrylic outdoor dealer :)
Nice. Do you not need to rinse the sand first ?
Great technique and excellent tutorial as usual. Thank you!
Will any plaster do as an alternative to Plaster of Paris?
Not that I know of
@@OurUpcycledLife thank you for replying.
Well done ❤
Hi.. will this stick to wood.. example a 2x4..
Thanks
Yes it will
Hi Deidre, I am so inspired by your ideas and that made me thinking of some crazy project - textured Hammerite (with sand). Have you ever try this kind of metal paint with any type of granules making it textured?

Yes it should work well
Does this chip or crack easily? I want to use this for a project but the object will be handled quite a bit
I find that it stands up really well, but I would seal it with a poly acrylic water-based sealer
Beautiful
Thanks for watching ! Glad you enjoyed Dianna
Hey ❤ Could we use something other than plaster of Paris please?
I am unsure of any other product that you could substitute
Stunning😍😍😍
Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed
Love these!
Thanks for watching ❤️
Love this!
Thanks for watching ❤️
If you're using chalk paint instead of acrylic/latex/house paint, do you skip the plaster of paris step?
Yes
Thank you for this. If I were to do it as a top on some drawers, would i need to seal it?
Yes you do! I would use a poly acrylic sealer Kat
@@OurUpcycledLife Ok thank you :)

@@OurUpcycledLife Thanks for your explanation. It's a joy to watch your videos.
Would this withstand outside moisture/rain?
Probably not the best
Can you paint this on plastic? I want to make an old water table look more beautiful in my yard
This would not hold up outside well on plastic in the elements .
Can we painter polymer pot by this method?
Sure can
Thank you !
You're welcome!
I want to do this to my walls. Do you know how much plaster and sand for one gallon of paint?
Sorry I have never painted wall with this recipe. I only have done small projects
@@OurUpcycledLife I think this would look fantastic on a wall
WOW amazing
Thanks 😊
Great tutorial. One question - typically how long for the sand/PoP application to fully dry? Thanks.
It will depend on your weather and humidity. It should dry overnight though
It's lovely and do you apply a sealer so it's washable? Tia..
You can apply a poly acrylic sealer and that will allow you to wipe down. Thanks for watching JoAnn
Where did get your plaster from?!
Hardware store
Can we wash this vase textured with sand or coffee ground?
No just be dusted
Will this work on untreated wood!?
Yes it sure will it works fantastic
hi! will calcium carbonate work instead of the plaster of paris? you have just saved us a fortune, saltwash is expensive! THANKS!!!
I think it was a mixture of a bunch of colours
will it work on outside projects?
No ideal

Hey there! A white wash would work perfect! Always do it with a dry brush technique so you don’t put to much on at once . ☀️
Can this be used on outdoor pot?
You would have to seal with outdoor sealer
Can you show any upcycled products with plastic? Will this paint adhere on plastic?
Thanks for watching ❤️ I haven’t painted much plastic. If you do you have to paint it with a spray paint primer to have it ahere properly
Thanks a lot
Please do some upcycling with plastic bottles. Will be helpful. Your so creative.
Can you do this on plastic flower pots
yes but prime first and seal with a poly acrylic sealer
yes but prime first and seal with a poly acrylic sealer
Have you tried painting then throwing sand onto the wet paint then letting it dry and painting another coat to seal the sand?
Yes, that would probably work pretty good too. I probably wouldn’t be as grainy texture though
Does it work with glass ?
Yes it does! I did a glass bowl with this recipe for Halloween and it turned out great! ua-cam.com/video/iyjl_vigSjQ/v-deo.html
Can this be used on part of interior wall to add texture?
I have never done it but have heard alot of people do. :) Thanks for watching

With sandpaint can it stick to plastic or outside projects
It can if you prime it first and if putting outside seal with a outdoor sealer. I wouldn't put it right out in the elements
hello, which sand do you use please?
Any type of
Could you use that on plastic?
Thanks for watching ❤️ I don’t think it would work well on plastic! If you did try it I would prime first
Maybe add some white glue into the recipe to help it stick to plastic!

Is it washable if apply on pot of a living plant , continue watering needed as you can understand my concern, love from india.not good in English 😅
No it isn’t
An it be used on canvas for a oil painting base.
I have never done that sorry
OR, I could have asked you my question right here... DUH! I wonder about myself sometimes. 🤣
Haha no worries❤️❤️ I can help you out on any platform
Can you use this on canvas?
I would think it might want to crack and peel off easy.
@@OurUpcycledLife I’m trying it now on canvas 😬 I’ll see what happens! Thanks so much for the video.
Why is the Plaster of Paris necessary?
Makes it durable
Why add plaster of Paris?? Surely the paint and sand will work just the same?
Learning so much from you thank you so much!🥰
I'm so glad! Have you tried the baking power paint? It is fantastic
ua-cam.com/video/oE4KCjnTZ_8/v-deo.html
Tin cans...wood too????
Yep it words on wood also ❤️
Plaster of Paris? What's that?
You can find it in your hardware store. It is used for drywall and when added to paint makes it chalky
I'm looking for a way to REMOVE this awful sand paint. Any tips?
Where is the recipe in comments please?
The recipe is at end of video and you can screen shot it 🌸 thanks for watching

I had to check that my playback speed was set on normal because it seemed you were talking very very fast.
Hmmm sometimes I get going to fast... and need to talk slower. People are so busy though, I like to make a video that is straight to the point .
And it also looks grotesque, thats definitely not what sand pain looks like😅
