      They charge allot because they have to check for leaks with uv dye

    • @jackboltsvolts8986
      @jackboltsvolts8986 5 років тому

      @@04dram04 - I wonder how they make that UV dye sparkle when they must flash the black light on all the lines, and the leak is on the O-rings buried inside of the dashboard. Maybe, just a refrigerant with a leak stopper/sealer will do the job? Without questioning where the leak is... Any ideas?

      AwkwardHamster. I was trying to recharge my ac last week and the pressure was high based on what it indicated on the ac pro handle gauge. Do you have a solution for this?

    • @AwkwardHamster
      @AwkwardHamster  10 років тому

      Hi. I don't have an environmental friendly way to reduce the pressure. If I overcharged mine, I would take it to the shop and have a mechanic address the issue.
      If your pressure is off by a little bit, wait a day and check the pressure again for verification.

    • @htboston
      @htboston 10 років тому +3

      AwkwardHamster. Hi. The pressure is off by a lot. I don't mind if it is not environmentally friendly because I know the mechanic will probably go the same way. Kind of hypocritical since I am a Environmental Science college major.

    Many thanks for a well done instructional video. Your calm presentation gave me the encouragement to recharge our 2003 Santa Fe. Just as you said I found the label under the hood for the correct refrigerant and purchased the AC Pro product. I re-watched the video this morning in preparation for the task and with renewed confidence opened the hood, found the low port opening, attached the hose and squeezed the trigger. And in minutes, the blowing air was once again cold! Yeah, easy peasy. Thank you.

      The car's manual or under the hood (as in my case) tells me the pounds. At the same time, we don't know how much is missing. Maybe your system have zero pounds of coolant. When you fill, measure along the way. Don't overfill.

    I just used this product today. 5-23-2014 My a/c was dying. Air was not cold at all. Printed the easy step by step instructions to have outside with me. Could not believe how easy it was. My port was right in front ..on top..closer to the left side. 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan. This stuff WORKS !! WOW. After I Finished I sat in car and started freezing. Glad I didn't take my car for service where I would have been robbed of a couple hundred bucks. Walmart had the best price..$35 with the gauge & hose.

    ...up the compressor. Also, avoid any coolant with 'leak stop'. The leak stop works in two ways: first, it softens the O rings to allow them to expand. That's great temporarily, but it eventually degrades the o rings. Second, it clings to moisture and gels up. These clumps of gel can clog the filter, drier, and eventually kill the compressor.

    Removing refrigerant is easy. You pump it to a recovery tank or if you don't have the EPA looking over your shoulder you press the Shrader valve with the vehicle off just like letting the air out of a tire. Proper procedure 1) recover all refrigerant 2) find/fix leaks 3) vacuum system 4) Add proper amount by weight not pressure.

    I welcome opinions. It is very possible I have a leak. It's been a year since my recharge and the A/C still runs cold. I figure the recharge kit contains some sort of sealant and my leak wasn't severe. If I lose the A/C again, I'll try what you suggested.

    Thanks for the video, very informative. We have a Cadillac and when we first connected the hose the the low pressure end it showed low and on board computer also tells us that the refrigerant is low and compressor is off. When we tried to add the refrigerant it went into the red right away.What do you think it means? Could it be a clogged valve or something else? Trying to avoid mechanics charging money for something that we should be able to do at home.Thanks.

      So the engine was on, ac's on full blast, and when you measure the pressure using the low port the gauge says it's in the red? If it were me, I would take it to the mechanic.

    • @genns1679
      @genns1679 9 років тому

      You really cant diagnose problems with these cans and gauges. If your car is off, and the ac unit is at ambient temp, assuming there is some liquid refrigerant in the system(which ideally there is) the pressure on both sides( high and low) will be the same and equal to the vapor pressure for the ambient temperature. @ 70 f that would be at 60 is psi. That may be the reason why you see the needle go to the red. On the video the pressure was pretty much zero. To be safe I would have vacuumed the system and checked for leaks first.

      First, your state may have laws stating it's illegal to discharge R-134a into the environment. Because it could be illegal, I would recommend having a professional evacuate the system. It's probably not what you wanted to hear since evacuating the system isn't difficult.

    I used the same bottle, A/C Pro, to refill my system. I just want to tell anyone who reads this, it's a damn miracle. For about a year my car had no AC. It was just brutal. If you are about to do this yourself, read further :) First off, Follow Directions! Engine needs to be running and AC on max while you do this. My car's system was making a terrible noise when I turned on the AC and started injecting this bottle. The gauge on the bottle had the needle on the red at first, meaning it was past the "V". I was terribly confused. According to the instructions, this means the system is empty for some reason... So I injected about half of the bottle into my system as the instructions said. About 7 minutes later, the needle dropped down to the green area. Suddenly the system went quiet! It started working, cool air coming from the vents in the car. The needle went to the green area, and I emptied the rest of the bottle into the system. My car now has SUPER cold air conditioning. I am so pleased. Please feel free to message me about this, because man the whole system was confusing, but my 10 year old car suddenly has AC and the chemicals in this were able to lubricate and seal my AC system. So happy here. Ok so moral of the story here is that your system might be empty, and in the case of my 1999 Saturn SC1, the dial in the gauge was in the red. Once I emptied half of the bottle into the system the A/C clutch started working and the pressure dropped into the green. Note: As I injected the refrigerant, the gauge never went up but dropped down very slowly. If you see the gauge move more into the red, visit a mechanic.

    Will just 1 can be enough to have it at normal levels? How long will the coolant last if you suspect a leak somewhere? I read the description for this specific Ac Coolant and supposedly it helps seal any leaks. Have you had any troubles with leaking after using it, or at least decreased? Thinking of trying this soon because rolling down my windows during driving is killing my gas milage! Thanks!
