I had seen people complaining that Skar King isn't strong enough compared to Ghidorah or Mechagodzilla, but it's not comparable. The Skar King is very old (probably several centuries or even millennia) and therefore physically diminished and he is not a mecha or a three-headed space dragon. Plus, he spent all this time lounging around on his throne like a true dictator while his slaves did all the work for him and relying on his control crystal over Shimo to instill fear and stay in power. Skar King does not need to be physically strong to prove that he is a good villain, on the contrary he is perfect like that: an old titan thirsty for power and revenge, who delights in the suffering of others, intelligent and even vicious, but blinded by this need for power and control which will ultimately cause his downfall. In his youth, Skar King was surely a real monster in terms of strength and I even think he could have killed Kong face to face.
Other than his roles as a sadistic tyrant that makes him an interesting villain, he's pretty cunning with his tactics compare to other titans who relies on strength and sheer force.
Frankly I think he's the most outright evil of any of the Monsterverse kaiju villains. Ghidorah is a psychopath too but he still is driven by a kind of animal logic. Skar though is very human-like in his wickedness. Wingard himself said that Skar is like a mirror for humanity's worst behaviors.
@@JRA6192 Indeed, Ghidorah shows a more animal side in the way he acts, it's true. Another difference between him and Skar is the way they impose their dominance. Ghidorah is super powerful and uses his strength and abilities to overcome the other titans, while the Skar King is more strategic and uses other titans (like Shimo) as living weapons to do the dirty work for him to keep its dominant position.
0:36 I love how it looks like Skar's wearing an ammo belt around him when you first see him or if you see him from far away, and then you look closer and realize it's a spine, when he first comes out of his throne room he looks like an old skinny, depraved war veteran and it looks SICK
Watching it through, it tells everything about him: It's a spinal column, so it's his way of overtly showing his clan that he has the spine to lead. Yet, he wields it like a whip, as one would to keep the unruly in line, and as a long distance weapon (afraid to get up close and personal with direct conflict).
I love that Kong is finally getting his own villains to keep, but I also would love to see a return of Robo-Kong from King Kong Escapes. It be cool to see those two reunited
I noticed numerous things about the Skar King. As of time of writing this comment, me and my girlfriend saw this movie last night. The Skar King had the kind of rev up his roars. His arms were brought out from in front of him to the his side every time he roared. Kong didn’t have to do that. Plus my girlfriend noticed that Skar King was not as strong as Kong. I pointed out that because of that, he’s faster and more agile. He was a beast in more ways than one and it was very satisfying to see how the film ended.
Such a great villain. He doesn't need to be powerful or strong to be such a threat. His cruelty and brain are what make him a villain that Godzilla, Kong and Mothra can fight only together.
What makes him even more terrifying is that he’s prety much a decrepite old man. The dude started the war between his species and the Gojiras as well as the ice age. Just imagne what he was capable off back when he was build like Kong.
@@florians9949 And the guy is probably the most relatable villain cause he evokes everything bad about us humans and our weaknesses. He's a dictator and like all dictators, they're powerful because they have armies, weapons and are cunning but once their empire falls or they no longer have followers, they are nothing but a single individual who can be beaten easily by possible brute force alone. It's the same strength and weakness humans as a whole have. Take away all our technology and most animal species beat us in fights.
@@florians9949 Exactly, the guy is also possibly the most relatable villain to us humans since he embodies all the strengths and weaknesses of humans. Strong with armies, weapons and intelligence But weak in terms of physical strength and durability and take away his armies and weapons, the guy isn't much. Same logic applies to any human, a human can hunt and end a grizzly bear with weapons But put that same human (with no weapons) against a grizzly in a fair 1v1. We all know what will happen.
0:19 Sitting pose was too clean. 0:46 Standing pose too clean. 1:27 The pose after checking Kong's teeth too clean. 1:44 The way it approached the monkey too clean as well. Nice intro for a villain.😂
People are hating on Skar King, calling him fodder etc (even though he tanked a magenta beam from the strongest Godzilla we’ve seen) but I love his energy. He doesn’t have to be Ghidorra level strong, the guy is just an asshole and is kinda swaggy too
Real, besides Shimo is already the tough brawler villain, Skar King’s filling in that dark lord villain niche that Ghidorah had (and barely used to the extent Skar King did)
@@C-Farsene_5 yeah exactly! it’s like “the controller” or “the puppet master” trope, like Buu and Babbidi. And that being said, he’s still a decent combatant, but it’s not his “strength” that makes him powerful or compelling
I've seen some people saying that Skar was wasted potential, but he was designed from the beginning to be that way, weak but with a god complex, like a dictator.
Yes I like how they didn't just make an even more powerful kaiju. The skar king isn't a threat because of his sheer strength, he is a threat because of his intelligence, craftiness and what his iron grip's leadership over the apes represents to Kong's character.
The fact that every single Ape Titan there is at least 250ft-300ft gives a real idea on just how MASSIVE everything there is. That "little rock" that the ape who was push knocked aside, would be the size of a whole building.
That’s what I don’t like about it. I’m not saying a kaiju has to be placed next to human infrastructure, but the hollow earth is just “giant nature”. It kind of undermines how even within nature these beasts would look like massive entities
You can see how peaceful was Kong in this movie he even lets SK disrespect him at first if that means no more fight, he had the hope to just be one more of his kind until he saw the true intentions of SK
Really like Kong's roar at 2:17. One of the more raw and intense roars of his. He wasnt gonna let Skar King slide with that. This motherfucker is going down

the directors intentionally did that the whole movie is supposed to be from kongs perspective he doesnt see the other titans as giants thus making it look like another planet of the apes with magical weapons
Skar King was SUCH a great villain monster! Malicious, a little unhinged, egotistical, tyrannical, a slave driver, megalomaniacal (which is really saying something for a Titan!), and so many things that we classify as "evil"! I mean, he was about to hurt and possibly kill Suko, when another ape intervened. But Skar still wanted SOMEONE to pay for bringing Kong, an outsider, so he killed Suko's friend, provoking Kong's rage.
Skarr king had like a anime villain vibe to him with the swag in his stance n walk n the “lazy” like stance n acrobatic fighting style. Like light yagami type stance but also the vibe of the red hair kid from assassination classroom (I forgot his name) but u can tell he had swag to em
Skar is such a great villian alongside King Ghidorah! Skar is emotive and expressive by his body language and roars and grunts as hes the kinda ape u dont wanna screw with as hes confirmed to be thousands of years old and has probably fought alot of past kaijus bigger then he is. Seriously when hes on screen u feel his impact as hes ruthless and rules like a tyrant and will not hesitate to kill anyone trying to oppose him in his kingdom. I wanna know who played him in his motion capture as that man deserves an award! And Kong here sees this red ape as a bully and a true psychopath. He sees the others around him bow down in fear and not respect but for thier lives. Kong is the opposite of Skar for sure as he shows compassion for others and respect as he helped that one ape up after the other whipped him ferociously. This proves to me that Adam Wingard understands these monsters and thier personalities.
Well, they are apes, and Kong was giving Skar the benefit of the doubt. Once he started laughing (which by the way is the most brutish evil laugh ever) he established himself as a villain.
Can someone explain to me how a 2 and a half minute long clip with no dialogue has better characterization and emotion than the entire 1 hour and 58 minutes of The Lion King remake?!
I think having a genuinely passionate director helps with that. From what I've seen and heard, Adam Wingard genuinely loves working on these movies and wants to make something that people will have fun with. He's not just in it for the money.
Skar king: you. You suposed to kill him not bring him here... Oldmonkeh: Forgive him, sire. The entire guard you send to explore wasnt uneable to do so. You ask to much for the little one... SK: Very well... I hope you understand what your prescence ignites... (Kick him to lava) Zuko: No, please no. Nooooo... Kong: I defy you... Sk: Challenge accepted.
I think the cool touch was that the Skar King had throne guards. And when he made his entrance he was walking behind them before they made their split and kicked the smaller ape to the side. My favorite part there.
Menacing would be putting it lightly. It’s like the Devil himself is here in ape form. When you think about it, they’re in Hell, or the MonsterVerse’s version of it.
@@sakumon16 I honstly its like a biblical reference as well. Notice how Godzilla threw Skar King to "Hell"? Like a painting of St Michale the Archangle defeat satan that locked away to hell. Or maybe God banish Lucifer to the deeps of hell.
I love how despite obviously being nowhere near Kong in terms of raw strength and endurance, he's by NO means a weak or incompetent opponent. His highly acrobatic fighting style and sheer cunning allow him to face Kong on a fairly even level and the skill he has with his whip is nothing to scoff at. Honestly If Godzilla hadn't supercharged himself prior I genuinely believe SK could given him a decent fight before ultimately getting atomized.
Kong just got one hit in and I honestly think eventually skar king could have won but would have been badly injured so that's probably why he used shimo
Skar King should be considered Kong's Archenemy from here in non-canon MV lore. Also, this could have been the plot of a good "Son Of Kong" movie. Wish they could have had a better fight
1:56 Fun fact! You can see Kong grabbing his axe! He's being very cautious of what Scar king can do! I really love details like this in movies! It shows you the RAW emotion through these characters and they delivered! Good work to the GxK team who made this movie happened!
While do I feel like suko screaming triggered some sort of trauma in Kong. That was the exact same scream he was doing when he found his parents' dead bodies, and he looked the exact same, just darker fur.
Skar King being a cruel dictator is fascinating because I have read somewhere that occassionally chimpanzee can be observed doing this too in real life and Skar King is giant red chimpanzee
The emotions and graphics is really really good, excellent work. This version Kong is the best I would like to include Godzilla as well great job I mean wow!!! spectacular
They made the kaiju more human like in this movie than any other, tight! And the way Skar king stood on that ledge, arms hanging down, head tilted, was so cool
Kongs journey in this movie with Suko is handled so well. Not a single line of dialogue is spoken but you know everything that’s being said through gestures and grunts and roars. Hats off to wingard, can’t wait for gxk 3!
Hopefully it's more Godzilla focused this time. I'm sure a similar treatment could potentially work, he may be a reptile but that doesn't mean he can't emote 😂
Skar King really is the exact opposite of Kong. Kong being younger muscular stronger compassionate and understanding is the exact opposite of what Skar is. He is scraggly, old, experienced but cruel, evil and hungry for power. This is the end of Kong's story and Skar was the perfect villain to end it off. Also he easily has the most personality out of any antagonist. The scene where he laughs at Kong is hilarious but shows how dastardly he is
I like the detail of him getting really close and starting to laugh at Kong, even though Kong knocked out one of his guards with a single blow, and even killed Suko's adoptive father in cold blood just to get Kong to fight him, that shows that he is not the fraud that people say he is.

Ghidorah is super powerful and uses his strength and abilities to overcome the other titans, while the Skar King is more strategic and uses other titans (like Shimo) as living weapons to do the dirty work for him to keep its dominant position.

Heck no he doesn’t.
This movie really shed light on how human kong really is, he was always kind to the apes unconditionally, and stood up for them without hesitation.
What makes Scar King interesting isn't his power. It's his crualty and intelligence.
I think his power comes from his intelligence.
Don’t forget that he also was responsible for the war that started between the Godzilla and Kong Species, this man truly was a menace
Really? His base Cruelty is what interest you? Lulz
@@JBXyooj That and his intellect.
@@JBXyooj If you think about it, cruelty is one of the few factors that makes villains can be so terrifying.
And agility. One of the most agile titans I’ve ever seen.
@@florians9949 And the guy is probably the most relatable villain cause he evokes everything bad about us humans and our weaknesses. It's the same strength and weakness humans as a whole have. Take away all our technology and most animal species beat us in fights.
@@florians9949 Exactly, the guy is also possibly the most relatable villain to us humans since he embodies all the strengths and weaknesses of humans.
Strong with armies, weapons and intelligence
But weak in terms of physical strength and durability and take away his armies and weapons, the guy isn't much.

Yes I like how they didn't just make an even more powerful kaiju. The skar king isn't a threat because of his sheer strength, he is a threat because of his intelligence, craftiness and what his iron grip's leadership over the apes represents to Kong's character.

Nah, they're supposed to be more or less just a 100 meters but i get your point either way.
But Skar still wanted SOMEONE to pay for bringing Kong, an outsider, so he killed Suko's friend, provoking Kong's rage.
i swear, Skar King's roar feels a lot less intimidating on here than in the theater, idk why
Theater is WAY louder thats why. Audio sounds slightly lower pitched as well.
The bass in the theater made it shake my body
Sounds like Kong roaring into a fan
I watched it in immersive x theater and it had tons of bass in it
Probably because you’re watching it outside the high-volume theatre.
Skarr king had like a anime villain vibe to him with the swag in his stance n walk n the “lazy” like stance n acrobatic fighting style. Like light yagami type stance but also the vibe of the red hair kid from assassination classroom (I forgot his name) but u can tell he had swag to em
Him going from a serious stance and then starting to laugh reminded me of Yujiro Hanma, also due to his red fur.
1:24 I think it’s kinda funny how Kong let Skar king put his finger in his mouth.
He's surrounded by an army of apes.
Bc he was trying to show him “yeah do it idgaf”
it's something animals would do.
What do you mean by that?
Well, they are apes, and Kong was giving Skar the benefit of the doubt. Once he started laughing (which by the way is the most brutish evil laugh ever) he established himself as a villain.
2:17 I think that's the most pissed kong roar I've heard.
