    Works great... Nice features!
I like using this remote, but it is substantially different from using the original 32 to 40 series! The buttons are laid out completely different, many things are missing off the face of the remote, and of course how it interfaces with the Hopper has changed somewhat! The good news is, when you're hopper recognizes that it's the new 54 series, it changes how it interfaces with that remote, so you get some different options. I do like the voice remote part, it really takes some getting used to though. For years my fingers were trained to do all the work , and now you can just talk it in! Also the light on the keys is just automatic, it comes on when you press any key, and goes off a few seconds later. As a sidebar here, I tried using the 52 series remote .. and that was an unmitigated disaster! (For me anyway!) Overall I like this unit, but only buy it if you are willing to change how you use dish hopper remotes. For me it made sense, and I always like trying new things. Overall I give it five stars ...

DISH removed many of the buttons from the previous remotes. This is not a "feature" but an "inconvenience". There is no "stop" button. When watching a recorded program, you can pause/forward/reverse. In order to stop the program: press "Back", arrow right, arrow right, arrow right, click stop. There is no "page scroll". Navigating the guide menu means clicking one by one through the programs. I accidentally discovered that the "channel" button is used for "page scroll", but only for certain menus.
DISH buried the "auto-tune" feature. If the big game is on at 2pm, I used to be able to set up "auto-tune" on a future program by clicking on the guide and choosing "auto-tune". The channel would automatically switch to the program when it started. The new "upgraded" process: click the future program, click "record", access all timers, find the program that was just recorded, select it, click "edit timer", select "type", arrow down to "auto-tune". click "back", click "back".
The new remote is cumbersome and confusing. By removing buttons, DISH has made its technology less user-friendly and more awkward.
    Avoid this remote!

December 2023: Anyone else's 54.0 remote eating batteries like an EV on a cross-country trip? A pair of higher-end AA batteries should not become exhausted in 3 to 4 weeks. I've had to replace them several times since reinstating a Dish subscription in Fall 2023. An elderly relative uses this and cannot turn her TV off when I'm away without unplugging everything. Welcome to advanced tech??? smh
