    I am wondering why 2.5 G WAN ports when there is no way to get that speed.. unless the 1Gig ports are switched.. which I cannot find anything to support. I guess the 2.5G LAN port can be used, but then the redundant WAN access/ or load balancing, either way, is no longer available at 2.5G speeds

      heya @sms4hou676, welcome to the channel and thanks for dropping by. I am not sure where you are from, but here in the US and depending on states, 1.2Gb is offered by Xfinity Comcast for example (www.xfinity.com/learn/deals/internet) so if the Gateway only supports 1Gb WAN at max, then there is no way to get above 1Gb. As for ATT (www.att.com/internet/fiber/gigabit-internet/), they offer 5Gb, but that will require a 10Gb port. But still, a very similar scenario. The physical interface is much faster than the Internet plan but you would rather have a 10Gb WAN port using a 5Gb plan vs a 5Gb plan with a 2.5Gb or worst, a 1Gb WAN port. It is not an uncommon scenario, 10yrs-20yrs back, you can have a 100Mb WAN port with a 1Mbps ISP and it's not really an issue.

      @@deadmeats thanks for the post. sorry, I mean the lan ports. Are they switched? Or are all 4 on a hub ? It's not the internet at 2.5 GB, but the internal network getting there that I do not see. Yes the 2.5 wan/lan port can be used. But the 1 GB ports by themselves can't drive the 2.5GB wan port. So you lose one wan port (to 2.5 GB lan) to actually drive the router to a 2.5 GB wan speed.
      Put another way. How does an uplink of 2.5 -GB get driven by 4 1 GB ports. Unless they are switched. Are they a little switch? I.e. does then backplane carry a lot more traffic that the 2.5 GB routing port can "see"?
      Ps. I am in the US and have dual ISP. AT&T fiber and xfinity.

      heya@@sms4hou676 , got it. You are correct, if one of the 2.5Gb WAN port needs to be driven at its full capacity for long period/duration, the other 2.5Gb needs to be an LAN port. The other 4 Gb ports (5 if including SFP) will just provide additional load to the 2.5Gb WAN port. The other 1Gb ports can still benefit from the 2.5Gb by not having a "bottleneck"
      (i.e. WAN traffic is 2.5 faster to complete vs 1Gb uplink).
      However, if you really want to drive your 2.5Gb WAN port, just get another managed switch with 2.5Gb uplink and connect it to WAN/LAN port of ER-707-M2. That leaves 1Gb as the next WAN uplink (so 2.5Gb WAN + 1Gb WAN) I am not sure what the market is right now, but I haven't seen many home users having these types of Multi-gig multi-WAN uplinks at this time, just basing it on the number of users for ER-605 v1.x/2/x. Not saying zero, but market demand could be one of the reason why it's designed that way.
      p.s. i dont know if the router ports are switch or hub, i just call them router/gateway interfaces :(

    Hi I am new to Omada system, I am planning to get either the ER707-m2 or ER7206. It is for home use but planning to expand to other webservices. I know one had 2.5gbwan port but I wanted to know about the features which one has more advantage than the other. Kindly advise thank you.

    • @deadmeats
      @deadmeats  2 місяці тому

      hello @DaKabayanTek, thanks for dropping by the channel. Those two Gateways are both great, the ER7206 was my long time favorite before ER707-M2 came along. There are three reasons why you will get ER-707-M2 over ER-7206. First, as you mentioned, 2.5Gb WAN. However, if you don't have DUAL or Single 2.5Gb WAN, the next reason you will go for ER-707-M2 is LAN-to-LAN bandwidth increase i.e. you can use one of the 2.5Gb port as 2.5Gb LAN uplink; and the final reason will be that you wanted to use the SFP port to link your switches to your Internet Gateway. If none of those advantages are huge deal for you, then ER7206 will be good enough for most home traffic. Both handles VPN traffic really well, great 1Gbit DUAL WAN Internet Speed, and have ample ports.
      Also, one of the other reason you may choose ER-707-M2 is that it is a newer product, so it may have longer firmware support but it is really dependent on the manufacturer (i.e. if ER7206 sells better/more, they can have longer support).
      Good hunting!

      Thank you kabayan ... I ended getting the er707-m2. I only have a gigabit internet but what I notice is a big improvement with lan to lan and also as you mentioned I connected a DAC to the sfp port of the er707-m2 to the sg2210mp. I was planning to use a sfp lc transceiver but good thing I friend of mine had the sfp DAC laying around. Do you have a video of setting up 2 EAPs individually but will have the same SSID. Right now I am on a mesh setup but what I wanted is when an EAP is down the other EAP will get the load of clients connected. Salamat po ng marami....🙏🏻

      @@DaKabayanTek hello sir, kung bago pa lang kayo sa Omada, suggestion ko eh mag Controller Mode kayo para mapadali ang pag configure. Di mo na kailangan bumili ng Hardware Controller kung meron kayo na separate Windows PC kasi libre lang yung Omada Software Controller and installation lang ang kailngan sa PC.
      Kung meron kayo controller (software or hardware), meron ako video na mag guide from start to finish including Access Points. Medyo matagal na yung video pero applicable pa rin sya.
      Madali lang i-configure yung WiFi at SSIDs kung lahat ng APs ay Omada-based. 99% of the time, naka deploy na yung "same SSID" sa lahat ng APs (depende sa configuration, pero ang default, lahat ng SSIDs eh available sa lahat ng EAPs).
      Heto yung video guide: ua-cam.com/video/vZIXaAZ_hgU/v-deo.html
      Okidoks, good hunting!

    Hi. Could this be setup along side Starlink router on bypass mode? Thanks.

    • @deadmeats
      @deadmeats  7 місяців тому +1

      heya @CarlosArruda77, thanks for dropping by the channel. I don't see any problem using any of the Omada Gateways connected to Starlink. However, in the past (and depending on the Starlink Gen you have), you may need to check if you are using CGNAT and work around it. Note that this is not a limitation of TP Link Gateway, if you are using CGNAT, you will almost always work around it even when using different gateway/router from other manufacturers (i.e. Unifi/Ubiquiti, DLink, NetGear, etc)...

      @@deadmeats Thanks for the swift reply mate. I left the world of IT about 10 years ago, did Cisco (CCNA) network admin. I'm out of touch with these things now. I've got the Gen2 now but with all the inhouse gadgets these days and kids, VLans are a must so off course Starlink router is VERY limited.

    • @deadmeats

      heya@@CarlosArruda77 np, you are good! and once you're in IT, you're always in IT :), so I am pretty sure you'll get your stuff going. if you would like to get VLANs working properly with your Omada Gateway, you'll need a managed switch. Any managed switch works, but since you're using Omada, I suggest get one that is compatible with the whole platform. It will be a nice complement to your Starlink Internet.
      Good hunting!

      @@deadmeats oh dear! I'm very disappointed with it now. I'm currently trying a draytech Vigor 2830Vn-plus and I can't get anything faster than 30mbps. Ranges from 20 to 30. Direct WiFi to Starlink router without bypass mode I was getting 3X faster speeds! What a headache. The draytek router was factory reset. Maybe I'm missing something.

      hey @user-uh6bq2vw1f, the Omada Platform offers Captive Portal i.e. Guest users need to enter credential (whether a login name/password or code) to access the Internet. I have a really old video about Captive Portal so the menus and steps may differ, but it will give you an idea of how this works for Omada. Link below:

    sir do you have video for QOS AND NAT configuration

    • @deadmeats
      @deadmeats  10 місяців тому

      heya @jaimedelapenajr7982, I don't really have anything for QoS but I have seen a few others request it and I have it on my to-do list. The challenge is that it can be quite tricky depending on use case. On well-defined protocols, it can be done easily, but on more general use case ones (i want to improve my Video Meeting in Zoom whenever I am playing Games, and improve my game after my meeting), this requires a lot of planning and better-than-usual network knowledge and in some cases, requires additional help from 3rd party solutions (hardware/software combination).
      As for NAT, all of TP Link Gateway devices are NAT devices by default. Not sure of your specific question here, but for TP Link and most consumer devices popular on the market, they can all be considered as "PAT/NAT to external interface + overload" (iirc).
      Thanks for dropping by the channel!
