Mr. Abele's grandson told Daniel Reeves who worked at Duke Univ Chapel as a Visitor Relations Specialist that Abele saw the Chapel under construction--but not completed. Mr. Abele's niece did not know that when she gave her speech. Bill King, the world's expert on Abele and retired University archivist, told me that there is supporting evidence that Abele saw the Chapel under construction. Prior to the conversation the grandson had with Daniel, we did not know that Abele saw the Chapel under construction although there were rumors. The question still remains: Why did Abele not see the Chapel completed? Perhaps due to segregation laws as they were still in existence. Ann Hall, VRA, Duke Univ. Chapel
Loved this! Never had the chance to tour the chapel, will keep these bits of info in mind when i do go!
Thank you! It’s definitely worth checking out.

Thank you for that additional context, Ann.
Why don’t we whip up buildings like they did in the 1900s
