Great machine! I used to use one in the UK. No cab or extra gadgets on ours though. Always started first time and a smooth ride.

We have a 1999 4x2 gator. The little brute has been overloaded to death for 14 years on a regular basis. I just had to replace a rear tire(replaced one a couple of years ago). . I regularly haul 3 buckets from my Kubota tractor, you have to help it dump, but it handles it. It still is running on the original drive belt!!! This is one unbelievably tough, durable machine!! If it's used for the purpose it was built for, there is nothing out there that compares!

just ordered a new 4x6. my old 2x4 just gave out. love the size of the box for work here on the farm. Great little machine for checking cows, fixing fence, cutting firewood or just about anything you could want.

Not many of these around. And this one seems to be in excellent condition. Most of my nieces and nephews learned how to drive driving a 6x4 gator usually by the age of 6 or 7. Very cool Ian keep it to give to your grandchildren.

I just bought my third diesel 6 x4 Gator. They are indispensable on the farm. They last forever and I still have my first one from around 2000. Repairs at times, but basically all I need to haul small bales of hay, logs, run errands , you name it . I would recommend highly the JD Gator 4 x6 diesel. I don't have a cab. I like the fresh air ( I live in Ohio). Take Care and thanks for showing me your Gator. Adam

There's no doubt these UTV's are great workhorses. I've had my gas 6x4 since 1996. Made a matching trailer for it and lined both boxes with 3/4 PT plywood to raise the box heights. We haul firewood with it and lots of it. Still no problems with it however this year will have to get the clutch serviced as it seems to stick a little when hot. Not bad eh.....after 20 years. Just wish it had a little more ground clearance as it hangs up easy in snow then you really have a problem.

+Graham Ditchfield u can always buy newer used gator or a Polaris 6x6, I own a Polaris 6x6 great ground clearance tons of power there good utv's I just prefer the Polaris though, u can get the Polaris 6x6 in diesel to.

i have an 04 polaris ranger 6x6 and i must say it is the best thing ever. I take it on the backroads of my 2,000 acre farm Its not a diesel but it acts like it. I use it for hauling hay, towing trailers, and any other thing that needs to be done. Just wanted to say its a great machine and if anyone is looking for a vehicle like that i would recomend the polaris ranger 6x6 or the polaris ranger diesel. And i was looking for a gator 4x2 for my house.

We're considering purchasing TH6X4 where I work to replace a 1995 Cushman Haulster that's no longer built. My big concern is the rough ride and being too slow. Soneonr uploadrd a review and said the actual tip speed is only ten. It's best asset is that it's the lowest bed machine I can find that will haul 1000 lbs plus, which is great for what we need at a fish hatchery. The lowest bed UTVs are around 35". The ones with decent bed lengths are: Mahindra Flex Hauler 1000 at 44" long and 60 mph. Mahindra Retriever 750L at 70" long bed and 33 mph. Mahindra's are actually built by an American company in AR and sold to Mahindra for resale. They list $15-16K; aluminum box; sides and tailgate drop. Gator 615i and 825i have 45" long and 28 and 35 mph respectively; only tailgate drops. $11-14K. Pro Gator 2020A has a 66" long stake bed bed that's 3" lower at or about 32" high. It's $28K but built like a tank; 5 speed manual. IAS Mach 1-XL has an 82' flat bed and 35 mph with John Deere Chassis. It's $30K with cab.

Like your 6 wheel Gator. You're right that is a nice machine. We have the 855D no cab, just a roof and poly windshield. the heat that comes up right by the accelerator pedal is just awful. Wish we never got a poly windshield either. You can barely see out of it now. However my Gator always starts and haven't had any problems with it. We're looking to sell it. The windshield and the heat problem are no fun.

@heathdspain Hey thanks for the kind words. On our gator their isn't and option for A/C, but when it's hot we just take the doors off and the windshield also pushes out. I hope that answer's your question. Thank you again for watching and also taking the time to comment. My family also's has another gator video on youtube that we shot in the summer if you would like to check it out. just type john deere gator 6x4 summer video and its the first video that pops up. Thanks :)

Gosh I owned one of these ages ago. It was just to slow. I’ve since had a few Polaris and CanAm’s. All I buy now is the CanAm Defender....I herd 4800 head of cow to different pastures with mine for a rotational grazing program. I’d never be able to do that with the 6x4.

***** Yeah I can definitley understand it why people have them.
They don't take up as much room as a truck, they'll definitely need less maintenance than an old truck, parts a cheaper, more mobile, uses less gas.
And you don't have to pay for insurance and registration.
