The Chew was replaced by GMA 3, a third hour of Good Morning America. They tried to introduce this in 2012 with Good Afternoon America and the rumor then was if the show did well it would replace General Hospital. Fortunately, that attempt was short-lived
@BJ Sully Absolutely! Just pathetic that decision. Talk shows were over when Oprah ended her run and people were "talked out". Maan...I missed the Soaps!
I had to pleasure of watched One life to live in 80s to 90s, when they had Bo, Clint and Asa along with these two gems of ladies . Classic time for soaps . I loved all the ABC soaps at the time
I was only sixteen when OLTL got cancelled. To say I was heartbroken is an understatement. I HATED their "revival" of OLTL, which was supposed to be aimed at a younger audience. I hope every single day that they'll bring it back to ABC, even if it's only once a week. I'd even pay to see it, as long as it's the GOOD old OLTL
The sad truth is that daytime ratings were down from their peak period and TV soaps were expensive to produce . In the early days of TV they made a lot of money for the networks to support their night time shows , small casts one or two writers less than ten actors and minimal sets . In recent times the costs have risen and the ratings declined . The average talk show is a much cheaper production . For the NYC actors it is mainly the theater .
Robin and Erika were 2 of the most popular actresses on daytime, total powerhouse actresses, I love them both so much, such great actresses and brought so much too the show.i totally miss the both of them so much.
They did that because of the lawsuit they have against ABC for it's treatment of some of the characters that crossed over to General Hospital. The lawsuit is still going on as we speak. If it is settled, they may finally bring them back.
The reality is that the writing was going downhill little by little for years. However, that being said, the same happened in the mid 1970s when Fred Silverman came aboard. He gave 6 months for a new writing team to turn it around (which it did) for AMC, OLTL and GH (which turned into the 3 daytime shows for years until Y&R took that spot). The same should've happened then and new writers (with excellent experience) should have had the chance to revitalize the show.
Different time and different era. That wouldn't have worked in 2011. The audience was too fragmented with cable, internet, streaming, etc. Plus, by then, the soaps were constantly recycling the same head writers and producers who failed at other soaps.
I started watching in 1972, I was 11! Anyway, so many viewers hated "Stacy" that it resulted in the character getting killed off. This is what happens when you have a villain that is beyond redemption. It seems to me that towards the end this show focused more on eye candy than story substance.
If I said this quickly 2 minutes after the cancellation, it wouldn't hold much weight. But I have literally watched Days of Our Lives and now Bold and The Beautiful consistently since OLTL was cancelled. I can honestly say that neither of those shows could hold a candle to the ABC soap operas. "Days" is certainly better than B&B overall, but it is quite corny and tacky at times. Bold and The Beautiful has THE LAZIEST writers I have ever seen on daytime. We fans know that a tried and true soap is always "busy"(many things going on at once; certain days focus on certain stories while others are moved to the back-burner, etc). B&B is AWFUL at that. They focus on one thing at a time as though they have to spoon feed it's viewers. And they repeat monologues and ideas OVER AND OVER again during the course of the storyline. And no, you can't used the excuse that it is a half hour. I was a faithful watcher of Edge of Night and a big viewer of Loving. They know how to be like the hour-long soaps, even though they were 30 minutes. Sadly, Erika is right when she seems to point out that the new generation is looking for something else. Whether it's true or not, we fans know what daytime was and will continue to be in our hearts. You can't really explain it to a non-viewer. It's just something you know internally. The Chew? The Revolution? HAH! Whatever! I literally wasted a 100.00 gift card for Netflix that expired in a year; I think I watched a total of an hour that whole time. I am GLUED to old VCR clips, garbled at times, that are posted of the ABC soaps on UA-cam. Long live TRUE daytime....and let everyone else go CHEW
I believe OLTL would have still been on ABC if Ron Carlvoti wasn't such an awful writer. Absolutely ridiculous storylines from "Tess" to "Stacy" is what ruined this show!
Is was actually all abc's fault. it wasn't because of any bad writing, it was because the network claimed that not enough "young people" watched it, which is total bs if you ask me.
Sorry, I strongly disagree. This show was a dramatic powerhouse with compelling story-lines until Carlivoti became the head writer. It seemed to me that they were trying a little too hard to appeal to the younger viewers and then totally distorted the show's history.
well I started watching right around the time when Stacey made it look like Rex was sleeping with her when she really drugged him, I think that was 2008? I'm not sure it's been awhile.
anyway's the point is, I started watching it then and I LOVED IT. Although with some of the confusing plot changes and retconning I love the twists and turns this show gave me.
Still in deep mourning over One Life to Life. I had almost 4 decades invested in it.
I can remember watching the premiere of OLTL & continued watching for decades thereafter. It's something I remember fondly. Miss it still!
"The Chew" is now cancelled as well
Really?
figures....

ABC cancelled a show that had been on 40 years, and replaced with a show that didn't even last 40 weeks.
@BJ Sully Absolutely! Just pathetic that decision. Talk shows were over when Oprah ended her run and people were "talked out". Maan...I missed the Soaps!
These two are such legends. Miss them on tv

👍👍👍👍LOVED IT
AMEN!!
I WANT OLTL BACK!!
Italian Brian's Hang Out they need to bring it back
Me three! So desperately! I so miss OLTL and AMC!
I want Another World and Guiding Light back and Generations back
RIP to actress Ellen Holly who just passed away. She led the way for these soaps to actually atttain the status they reached.
Let's hope they can settle the legal troubles soon because OLTL was my favorite. The ones left on TV aren't as good
These two and Susan Flannery & Katherine Kelly Lang from B&B had the best catfights on all of the daytime soaps. I miss my girls!
I was only sixteen when OLTL got cancelled. To say I was heartbroken is an understatement.

There was and IS no TV like Strasser and Slezak! I have no damn clue why that rotten move was made.
OLTL rocked. Loved the Buchanans and Viki and Dorian.
OLTL was one of my favorite shows. I still miss it
I miss One Life To Live. And I really miss watching these to go at it. They were the best enemies on daytime television. And the best actress, too.

i miss Another World and Guiding Light and Generations!!!! the end yea that Barbra burns storyline was dope on ATWT.
I would watch an old garbled VCR tape of Generations ANYTIME over any new show, that's for sure
Prospect Park cancelled AMC and OLTL almost immediately after it as revived
They did that because of the lawsuit they have against ABC for it's treatment of some of the characters that crossed over to General Hospital. The lawsuit is still going on as we speak. If it is settled, they may finally bring them back.
I officially hate abc now... know what that's giving them too much credit, I've hated them for 4 years now probably right after this was cancelled.
I want AW GL and Generations back
@@timothymoore6341 Actually, there was a labor strike that shut down production. Prospect Park decided to not continue and filed for bankruptcy

I watched OLTL every day when it returned. I wished it would have stayed Online. or on TV.

love you :)
Am still sad and salty that OLTL and AMC got cancelled. The void that was left behind can never be replaced. I hope that soaps one day make a revival.

I also want All my childrenback
THE GREAT ERICA SLEZAK TALKS TO LARRY KING! Lookin' good, Erica! Love you. Comr back to me! Although think it is too late now...
Unfortunately everything things come down to money. The new generation wants to see someone fall on there face.
Soaps are a dying breed !
