    Ran into him at the Guitar Center Rancho Cucamonga several years ago, I was having a 12 string Strat set up, he seemed rather bemused by this instrument and chatted myself and another player in the acoustic guitar room, showed me how George Harrison did the opening chord for hard days night and listened to a impromptu rendition of I don't want to spoil the party by the Beatles. Shared his time and was very gracious.

    Chris Hillman is one of my favorite recording artists of all time. The music of the Byrds, Manassass, the Flying Buritto Brothers, Southern Hillman & Furay, the Chris Hillman Band, the Desert Rose Band, & his solo Bluegrass Period are very important to me. Sorry fans of the McGuinn, Clark & Hillman. I have always had problems with the music put out by that band, even though the band is made up of 3 guys I respect. Thanks for posting this show.🤗✌

    It’s such a loss that the Byrds couldn’t record a full version of Mr Tambourine Man. I’d love to hear all verses in their wonderful arrangement.

    • @munimathbypeterfelton6251
      @munimathbypeterfelton6251 2 роки тому +3

      Even though it was a one-time only thing, the original lineup of The Byrds did perform a full-length version of Mr. Tambourine Man at their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 1991. McGuinn, Crosby, and Bob Dylan also performed a live full-length version of the tune at Dylan’s 30th Anniversary Concert tribute special later that same year. Great shows!

    'Have seen Chris 2x in concert. (With his great friend Herb Pedersen.) Such a great guy, great musician. Some trivia: Both Gram Parsons and Chris lost their dads to suicide. I think it was another thing that bonded them.

    • @margaretross9150
      @margaretross9150 3 роки тому

      For sure for awhile anyway. Gram was 12 when his dad died and Chris 16. Then Gram's mom died of alcoholism when he was 18.

    Chris Hillman is one of the greats of country-rock, his 'Morning Sky' (1982) being my all-time favourite bluegrass album, 'Bakersfield Bound' (1996) occupying a similar spot in the country genre. He's on good form here, displaying fine acoustic guitar skills & talking freely about his early career, in particular. Highlight is his final rendition, Sin City. It sounds so good, in fact, it made me wish he'd re-record Gilded Palace of Sin in acoustic vein, as the original production, to my mind, leaves plenty of scope for improvement.

      Bakersfield Bound.....I recently stumbled upon that record. I have never known too much about bluegrass and that style of country music. But i adore every track.

    I always was enthused with Chris's bass playing. It kinda looked like he was strumming the bass although I know he wasn't but I never could get the hang of his style. Anyway, I like his music and I really like this song he did on this program, Sin City. I had never heard it before. He is a very good musician.
