Hi, why cant i yarn over with the first stitch of the magic ring?? Like whats the different? I just saw a X and a ✔️ but dont have an explanation for it. Sorry i just start crocheting and other patterns i learn so far is yarn over. So this is a lil confusing for me.

Single crochet stitch has 2 types: X stitch (yarn under ✔ ) and V stitch (yarn over✖). If I use an X stitch (yarn under), the product will look more sturdy

In this video I used 1.50 ~ 2.00mm size yarn. If you use a 4.00mm crochet hook, I think you should use a bigger size yarn
