    Excellent video and got me to subscribe. Wondering why there wasn't a comparison of the two while on the closest to exact magnification settings. For instance, the 320 at 4.5 power seemed to have less field of view than the 520 at 5 power. Of course it could just be my old eyes.

    • @RussDouglas222
      @RussDouglas222  8 місяців тому

      Thanks for subscribing Kenneth.
      Hmm I'd say the 3-12 has a wider FOV throughout the similar magnification stages than the 5-20, but as soon as I can get my hands back on the ZHD312R I'll record a quick daylight comparison with them at 4.5x / 5x, 7.5x / 7.5x, 10.5x / 10x and 12x / 12.5x.
      Then I'll do a nocturnal comparison too, with onboard IR, including focusing the beam.
      Cheers. Russ

      How about a night footage comparison. After all, people buy these for night vision capability. I suspect 312 will be brighter than 520 at night.

    • @RussDouglas222
      @RussDouglas222  8 місяців тому

      @@malin7919 Yes I'll be doing this as soon as I can get my hands on another ZHD312R, to continue my review.
      And I expect it will be slightly brighter at night side-by-side due to the wider FOV lens, although the sensor compensates automatically so it'll need slightly less IR brightness.
      Cheers. Russ

      Hmm there's a question, I didn't have the ZHD312R for long before passing it to Billy.
      Once I have it (or another ZHD312R) I'll record a side-by-side comparison with my gen.1 DS35-50RF.

    @Nick-Antoniou 9 місяців тому +2

    Russ will they be selling the ZHD312R with the 940nm as standard? That would seem the ideal combo for sub 12

    • @RussDouglas222
      @RussDouglas222  9 місяців тому

      I assume the 850nm will be standard, but you just specify which IR you require, when you order... same as specifying whether you require the 0MOA, 20MOA or 35MOA mount. 🤓
      Anyone with skittish prey will likely prefer the 940nm, whereas if your prey's not bothered/distracted by the faint red glow of 850nm, that will be 25% brighter than 850nm (on the same power level), so will be better.

Check out the part where you show the sea and a truck passes by at 1:35 into the video, the choppy sea is visible in the 520, not so obvious in the 312, so definitely less detail, just not sure why. Hi Gary, from Billy & Bruce's testing, the ZHD520R does include steep angles in holdover (so I assume the ZHD312R also does). 👍

      I've yet to use my Zulus in bright / direct sunlight, but I have an adjustable shade from John (@JCHU_1988 on the AGF), so that'll be cool if required.

      Hi there (great name BTW 👏).
      I'll ask Arken if that's an option... but I'm planning to buy a ZHD312R for use on my .22" sub-12 Krait Lite, where the LRF / BCL perfectly accounts for the loopy trajectory.
      Also Arken specifically modified the LRF on the 312R to range down to 5m, and I've found the closer the target is, the differences in holdover can vary massively, especially with a bullpup.

    Hi Russ Is the reticle ffp or sfp? When I zoom in with ffp selected, the reticle slides to the top of the screen.Is it normal?Thanks for videos

    • @RussDouglas222
      @RussDouglas222  8 місяців тому

      Hi there, it sounds like you maybe have original firmware installed... whereas a fairly early update includes 'auto-centre when zoomed'.
      Also if the reticle is too high (i.e. not fairly central with a low Y value) when on base mag', you would benefit from a mount with less MOA. Basically too much MOA (inc' whatever MOA might be built into your rifle action/rail) means your zeroed + will be high.
      So if yours is 35MOA you would probably be better using a 20MOA mount (or if 20 already you might be better with a 0MOA mount).
      Hope this helps, and thanks for watching, cheers. Russ

    An honest person doesn't need to say "I'm being 100% honest". It shows in their review. Secondly, it isn't "independent" if you were given the product. A person that pays out of pocket will see a product differently than a person who was given the product for free.

      You don't know me.
      I state that to make it clear I'm not sponsored or influenced; I am not a brand ambassador.
      If asked to review gear my reply is always "can I be absolutely honest re both pros and cons I find?" ...then I only review stuff when the answer is "yes", hence why I rarely review some brands. 🤷‍♂
      I occasionally get to keep what I'm reviewing, but more often borrow and return them, post-review.
      I love well-designed gear that does what is says on the tin, from manufacturers that respond positively and take feedback on board.
      Arken / DNT are perfect at that. 👌
