The Ship's Biggest Balcony Costs $600 Per Night

- Here's a tour of a special type of cabin on Carnival Horizon with one very special feature: the largest balcony of any cabin on the entire ship.
It's officially known as a "Havana Premium Vista Balcony" cabin. I usually call this type of cabin an "aft wrap corner balcony" cabin because of the location at the aft end of the ship, and the way the balcony wraps all the way around the back corner of the ship.
There are eight of these type of cabins on Carnival Horizon, although only two of them have the super-long balcony you see in this video. Those two are staterooms 9464 and 9471. The one shown in this video is 9471, located on the starboard side of the ship.
In addition to having longer balconies than the other six Havana Premium Vista Balcony cabins, another advantage of the two on deck nine is that these cabins are fully shaded throughout most of the day... due to the way deck 10 extends out to provide shade to these balconies. The ones on decks 6, 7, and 8 can get extremely hot in the full sun on a day in the Caribbean.
Because this is a Havana cabin, you get full access on of the best features of the Carnival Horizon: the exclusive Havana pool area. It's the only un-crowded pool on the ship, since only passengers staying in a Havana cabin have access to it. In addition to the Havana pool, there are also two very large whirlpool tubs that are kept heated to a much warmer temperature than the pool.
We paid $3633 to book this 6-day cruise, or approximately $600 per night. Onboard charges including gratuities came to an additional $361, making the total cost of this cruise $3994.
If you're interested in booking a cruise, or any kind of vacation, feel free to use the services of my travel agent, Caitlin Gallagher, of Ambren Travel. Her web site can be found at www.ambrentravel.com/
His voice is on point now... sitting here eating breakfast and listening to this... relaxing! 👌
That was very helpful, I had an aft facing balcony before and always wondered about the premium aft. You have a very soothing voice.
Thanks for sharing Jim. Very odd layout indeed. Definitely needs more storage and outlets. I like to see the room I am going to stay in. Always love your vlogs.
Sheila Bosiger what type of room will you be in....we are doing the Havana cabana ..though not a suite..I think cabin 5239....I wasn’t a fan of the L shaped wrap around....better for privacy....layout is awful....seems like all have some issue...love the cabana option but the lack of privacy there too concerns us.....we selected the last once down....so we have one cabana next to us n 5hen the pool area.....
Wonderful Video Jim!
Hey Jim, great tour of the suite, I'm also surprised it didn't have more storage or charging stations by the bedside like newer ships on other lines. I do love the privacy of the Havana area! Thank you!
Great Video Jim. Very informative. We have most of the havana cabana rooms booked on deck 5 portside. My sister has one of the havana cabana suites.
Thanks for this awesome video. Considering Havana room on Vista. Love the seclusion and private pool area.
Thank you Jim once again for your awesome video. I will be traveling on the horizon September 15 in a Grand Suite. When are you planning to cruise on the panorama?
That radio voice is awesome!
Glad to see your comment section is back. Very informative video as always.
Great video! Thanks for sharing
Thank you for this👍🏼
Just found your channel and you make some great videos. New to cruising having just done a 5 day Disney we have booked a 10 day Disney transatlantic for later this year and a NCL for next Nov.
Keep up the great work, can't understand the few rude negative posters on some of the videos I guess some people just have a lot of bitterness in them.
PS. You have a voice so smooth you should be a nighttime radio talk show presenter!
The Forward Facing Haven Penthouse on NCL Escape was HUGE! The bathroom was like the size of an inside cabin
We are trying our first aft on Panorama 7450 wrap around. Splurged for my husband's 60th next year. We love the view of the ship's wake so will be worth it for us.
Great video!
Hi Jim - I booked the Havana aft balcony cabin #6476 and while I didn't have the wrap around balcony I found it good size for one. Appreciate your video here showing the difference in balcony length. You would have had closet envy because my cabin had 3 over the 2 that you show. I paid $ 2,995.00 for my cabin.
This was a great video! I can't decide whether to go with this or the aft extended balcony. I did notice there isn't a couch either in this one which also has storage.
Another great informative, interesting & well-made video Jim. I enjoy just about all your cruise videos. I'm a late-comer to cruising. I'm looking forward to my first cruise next May on board MSC Grandiosa. Do you plan to travel on it before then?
My tastes in food and entertainment are 100% American... and I discovered on a cruise on MSC Seaside that MSC's primary focus is on pleasing their European passengers. I've enjoyed every one of the 48 cruises that I've been on, but I enjoyed MSC Seaside the least of all 48... primarily because their entertainment and food weren't targeted to American tastes. So, no, I don't think there will be any MSC cruises in my future... unless MSC feels that they have pivoted to suit American tastes to the point that they would like to invite me (at their expense) to try MSC Seaside again. Really, I think Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, and Viking are a much better match for my American tastes in food and entertainment. Specifically with food... Norwegian Bliss was a near-perfect match for my tastes in food, although I do have to say that I was also really impressed with the Pig & Anchor smokehouse on Carnival Horizon.
We need this in our lives. Time to go find us a Havana Premium Vista Balcony!
Nice video. Thank you for sharing sincerely Adventures of David and Aaron
Excellent veranda space! I don't know if we'll return to Carnival, our 14 night Journey cruise did not go well. Then again, I just did a 12 night Celebrity cruise, right before major cuts, making it not much better. I'm hoping the dining package on RCCL and NCL will sweeten the pot, but otherwise we're leaning towards Holland America moving forward. We've got Signature Suites for $140 pp a night, on our next two cruises.
what was your take on the Journey cruise? they look neat on the website. We just did a 4 nighter on Celeb Infinity and the food was good (lobster night, good beef cuts, great lamb chops). We took it b/c it fit the schedule, not too brand loyal.
It's also worth noting, that from the looks of that image he shows us, that not only is the deck 9 balcony longer, but it also wraps completely around the corner, which means you can walk around it and face directly behind the ship, or directly to the side of the ship, so you have a more to look at than the other balconies, which are mostly just the back of the ship.
Jim, thanks for the tour of your Horizon cabin! Great insight, as usual.
My question on this room - Did you have excessive noise from the crew
stairwell being next to your room? It seemed to me like there would be.
You're spot on about the difference being better for the Havana Suite as
opposed to your extended balcony room. That portion of this review will
be well noted. We will be staying in a Havana Stateroom on the Panorama
for the 3 day inaugural cruise Dec. 11 and is our first "large ship"
experience. We're still contemplating doing a B2B with the first 7 day
sailing on Dec. 14. Great room tips too with the thermometer and outlet
plug.
There wasn't any noise at all from the crew stairwell.
I always liked rear cabins they usually have bigger balconies or better design balconies with a better view the only disadvantage is sometimes these cabins on these ships tend to rock a lot more than you feel the movement of the ship more but they usually are better cabins
I loved my cruise on the Carnival Horizon, I had a side balcony cabin! It was very awesome!!
Sunrise was cool. I loved Guys Burger Joint
S_T drum is the burger joint free/ included in the cruise fee??
Yes it is included in your cruise fare. Have as many as you like, as often as you like.
Jim Zimmerlin wow thanks so much.. sound like I may be gaining 10 pounds lol...
Did you encounter any issues with noise from above? Personally I wouldn't book this cabin because the Tides Pool is directly above it and I could foresee noise from loungers being dragged across the deck and just noise in general from people moving around in the public areas. Good point about the overhang offering privacy though. A couple years ago I was sailing on the Conquest, grabbing pizza on Lido about 10pm when I looked down and saw a couple going at it on their aft balcony. 🤣
No people noise at all, and I never heard any music either. It might have something to do with that overhang. There was one morning at around 7 AM when for about ten minutes I heard loungers being scooted around on the pool deck above us. But that was ten minutes out of a six day cruise. So, really, the lack of storage and lack of electrical outlets by the bed were the most notable negatives. Noise really wasn't an issue at all.
Thanks Jim! As I’m a retired pirate, I totally want your little bouncing parrot! Please please give me a lead on how to purchase his twin. Thanks. Love you videos. Very helpful. Keep them coming!
I think we got the parrot from Amazon.com but other people have also asked about it and I've looked on Amazon and never seen that particular parrot again.
@@JimZim thanks Jim. We can’t find such a good one on Amazon either. It’ll be our quest. God bless and God speed. Hope to see you out and about on one of these cruise ships someday. The beverage will be on me.
Interesting cabins & balconies - but I still prefer a mini-suite on Princess with the bed area & sitting area (with privacy curtain between), 2 TVs & a bathtub in the bathroom - and a comfy balcony!! And once I even got an upgrade (free) to one of the grand suites - with the huge walk-in closet, a living room with sofa bed, desk, mini-fridge & tv and a separate bedroom that had a desk with vanity mirror, pillow menu, a bathroom with a glass shower stall and whirlpool bathtub & a separate room with toilet & sink (and 2 doors to go into the bathroom)!
And we had a double balcony with a round table & 4 chairs and 2 loungers with thick, comfy cushions!
I haven’t cruised with Carnival in many years - but if I do ever decide to try a Carnival Cruise - I’d probably choose a Havana balcony cabin!
nice video
Hi Jim and Jim-Fans ! Brief background then 2 questions for you all: 1. my husband and I are cruisaholics :-) having taken +20 cruises thus far; however we have never sailed on Carnival due to our preferring a relaxing experience with of course some fun too, but mostly we like chilling. Here come our questions: 1. do the Deck 9 aft-wrap Havana balcony staterooms experience ceiling noise as the deck above this room is a Public deck ? 2, my understand is that the Havana Pool and Bar area are open to the public after 7 PM. How busy and/or loud have you experienced this area to be after 7 PM as we want to make use of our huge balcony but don't want to hear a bunch of ruckus :-) Thank you Jim for being my FAVORITE channel as your reviews are always fair, honest, contain great detail and your video ability is professional to the max ! Thanks everyone too who may shed some light on your Carnival experiences !!! Cheers to all and my best, Marcia and Tim
Hi Marcia! Congratulations on haven taken over 20 cruises! That makes you my kind of person!
We experienced almost no noise at all from the pool deck above us when we were in our deck 9 cabin or out on our balcony. During the entire 7 day cruise, there was only one time, for 15 minutes or so, where we heard staff moving around some loungers up above us. I think the reason there is so little noise is that the aft pool on deck 10 is actually quite a bit forward of the aft cabins on deck nine. What's actually right above the aft cabins on deck nine is just a bunch of loungers around the far outer edges of the pool. All people do there is lounge around quietly. Noise was simply NOT an issue for us at all in our aft deck nine Havana cabin.
Regarding noise coming up from the Havana pool area below...
Basically no one uses the Havana pool area after 7 PM. People have other things to do at that hour... shows, dinner, comedy, etc. There is essentially no one out by the Havana pool. However, there is a significant amount of noise generated by the band that plays in the Havana bar area inside. When we stayed in a Havana Suite on deck 5 on Carnival Vista, this was a huge issue... as the band plays until around midnight on many nights. The noise came right through the walls. That's when for Carnival Horizon, we chose to move up to deck nine... to get away from that.
My guess is that if you stay on decks 5 or 6, the noise from the Havana band will be noticeable. On decks 7 and above, probably not an issue.
Thanks Jim - ever so much !!! What a great amount of perfect detail and we will for sure book deck 7 and up. We are veranda people, so your other video re. Carnival Aft-Wrap size comparisons, we will follow your lead ! BTW: your wife's name is utterly darling as is she :-) You both are indeed very lucky to have each other and to share the utter joy of cruising - as do Tim and I. Hope to someday meet you both on a future cruise to Mexico on the Horizon !!! Cheers and blessings, Marcia PS: also love your choo-choo trains :-) ! FYI: the train set I was given as a Christmas gift when I was knee high to a grasshopper surrounds our Christmas tree every single year to date !
The outdoor space on Deck 9 is large but since you have the pool right above you I wouldn't want that room. I always want rooms above and below me to help lessen the noise.
Only one day out of six, for about ten minutes, did I hear any sounds at all from above. It wasn't an issue, really.
I just got off Norwegian Escape, there were not any power outlets by the beds either, I guess it is a fire/safety hazard. As for the USB outlets not being by the bed, Norwegian does do that at least...
ty fr that info look like they got some bugs they need to fix not muck room your things
How was the noise from Deck 10 right above at night and early am?
Six of the seven days... no noise from above at all. None.
One day... they moved some longers for about ten minutes one morning, after we were already awake anyway. We could hear the loungers scraping against the floor. But that was over in ten minutes. So really, noise issues were not a factor.
@@JimZim Outstanding! We're on a Deck 7 Havana Aft-Balcony Leaving Saturday we will try to take a peak at the Deck 9 Area.
Hi Jim! Me and my two sisters are thinking of cruising on the Horizon. What's better for the three of us with the most perks, a suite, Havana or Cloud 9 suite? Thank you !
It depends on whether you're more interested in having access to the thermal pool within the Cloud 9 Spa or to hot tubs, swimming pool, sun deck, and bar at the Havana area. Is one of the three of you prepared to sleep on a small bed converted from a sofa? Also, are two of you prepared to share one large bed that can not be split in two? I don't think the bed in the Havana suite can be split in to two.
@@JimZim Thank you for responding :) We stayed in a two bedroom suite on board the Independence last year and we're hooked with the Suite Life lol It's a lot to think about for spending a lot of money. I appreciate your response!
Thanks Jim! Assuming new or newly remodeled ships would HAVE Outlets next to bed for all the CPAP users being a medical device.
Especially as most cruise ships are floating nursing homes.
Hello my friend hope you are well and having a great weekend so far. Just found you today and really pleased we have your videos are awesome bro, thanks so much for sharing your experience with us really appreciate it. Thought we would pop over and show you some love huge thumbs up. Love carnival cruises, stay safe and catch up again real soon God bless you ❤️🛳️🙏
Thank you very much for taking the time to write out your comment! It's funny how some people look down on Carnival Cruise Line. I bet most of those people haven't sailed with Carnival in a long time, if at all. Carnival has come a long way and those Vista-class ships are fantastic. I can't wait to cruise on Mardi Gras and see what they've done with their next generation of ships!
@@JimZim you are very welcome. We would love to be in a position to cruise but right now things are a little bit difficult. But for sure one day we will get to cruise on the Mardi Gras
Can you control the temperature in your room? How low can you set the A/C?
Yes, you have full control over the temperature in your cabin. One of the reasons I like to bring along a digital thermometer is so that I can see an actual reading of the room temperature, rather than just basing a decision to turn the A/C up or down on how I feel. Especially since there are two people sharing the room... it's not just a matter of how comfortable I am, we both have to agree on a temperature. So, having that thermometer to show that the room is the temperature we've agreed on is a good thing.
I never tried turning the thermostat down as far as it would go just to see how cold I could get the room. It would have been uncomfortably cold for us. On a cruise, we usually like the room at 73 degrees. I would think you could get the room down to 67 or 66 if you wanted to, and possibly even lower.
Havana area is only for adults? Because I’m 14 and I love this zone😂
The Havana area is only for guests that are booked in a Havana cabin, until 7 PM. After 7 PM, any passenger can enjoy the Havana area. People under the age of 12 are not allowed to be booked in a Havana cabin... therefore, prior to 7 PM, no one under the age of 12 can be in the Havana area.
Jim Zimmerlin thank you 👍
You have a voice for radio...and you tub...another great vlog. Tyvm.
can’t wait for the mardi gras review
Happy Wednesday evening Jim. Great to be able to comment with you again!!
Thanks for the tidbits on this ship. The hubby & I have only ever cruised with Princess. But lately we've been discussing to try another cruise line for our next cruise.
I LOVE Carnival. We often stay on deck two and we’re pretty happy w it.
They could have made this cabin Havana Cabaña Ultra suite. And take up some of the balcony to make the room bigger!
What was the other door on the balcony?
Some kind of mechanical equipment.
We rented this same cabin for our cruise next November. I believe there is a suite with a larger balcony but it is stupid expensive.
I didn’t want the corner. We have the aft -balcony on the Panorama dead center on deck 9.
This...is $600 a night?...
Am also looking forward to carnival panorama short flight from sacramento to LA #choosefun
It is from Long beach I think
Not surprised it is Carnival
They can keep it !
I like your chanel youtube.
Someday i will apply in Carnival Cruise line.
And i will make video like this also...
😊😊
Working on a cruise ship seams fun, but it really isn't and the pay is way less than minimum wage. I recommend just cruising on them, not working on them
That seems like a huge price to pay for a cobbled together cabin with a large, if narrow balcony. For $600/day/person or even per couple you can do much better on other ships, even some cabins on some six star ships. Pump shampoo in a premium cabin's shower??? NOT!!
It wasn't $600 per day per person... it was $600 per day, total, for the cabin.
ooh purty!
Great Video! You need to voice a character on Family Guy!
StereoThrilla Jim would make a great voice actor! Love his narrations on his videos. So easy to listen to!
It makes more sense for people to take a regular balcony and do two cruises for the price of one or stop taking 7 day cruises and doe some 14 day cruises. Unless of course money is no option.
that's so cool how can I book a cruise is it easy
Either go to the web site of the cruise line and book it yourself, or get in touch with a travel agent who can do it all for you.
Jim Zimmerlin Ok it's my first time but I'll try
Balconys on deck 9 look a lot narrower than the one below
I don't think they are. They stick out further because they start further out. The actual width is about the same on all those aft balconies on decks 6/7/8/9, as far as I know.
Panorama Havanna 2-8-2020 Ya hoo... inside room..I'll take what I can get...lol
Do u think it was worth it?
I think the video shows the room and the balcony well enough that people have the information they need to make that decision for themselves. But you're asking me if all things considered, was it worth it to me... and I'd have to honestly say, as I said in the video, that for our next cruise on an almost-identical ship, we'll go with a Havana Suite instead. The Havana Suite costs a little more, but the cabin and especially the shower are hugely better... plus the proximity to the Havana pool is nice. The lack of storage, the tiny bathroom, and the lack of electrical outlets by the bed was really unacceptable for a brand new best-in-the-fleet ship, and especially for a cabin that was probably more than double the price of a normal balcony cabin.
if you're able to pay $600.00 a night then yes for sure you have to expect more. Definitely, need more space to put things.. so as much as i like the balcony.. id not get that room if there was two of us ..thx for showing us. sadly i wouldn't be able to afford what you get anyways.. but luckily im a simple girl with simple tastes..I mean, how much time do you spend in the cabin anyway. I sleep there and don't go there at all during the day. so just an inside cabin does me fine. I also don't nap.. as i'll sleep enough when I'm dead :)
We had a rap balcony on Pride it was ok cabin super small balcony huge that people threw up on 3 times in a 7 day cruise. I was upset!
Another good reason for that big overhang above the balcony!
You sound like Tim Gunn
Good tip about privacy on deck 9. You don’t find these things out until your there. Thanks for the tour.
I would be worried about hearing people going up and down the stairs as well as deck chairs being moved above
There was zero noise from the stairwell.
During the entire six day cruise, I only heard deck chairs being moved once... for about ten minutes.
Wow 600????? THATS cheap But were never ever going in carnival WE only cruise RCL we got a owners suite +shop view room for a k a night a steal!
I’m paying $2,300 total for 4 people on a balcony cabin on the Carnival Glory this summer. That’s for a balcony room and it’s a 7 day cruise.
Havana???
Wow, $4,000 for a 6-day cruise. We did a 10-day with MSC which included alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, wifi and a covered aft balcony on deck 9 for half that price. Much better deals to be had...
I've been on 48 cruises now, and my one cruise with MSC would rank as #48 on my list of best cruises. So, I completely understand why they have to offer super low prices to entice people to cruise with them. But if you've been with them and you enjoyed it, that's fantastic... as it is, as you have said, way cheaper to cruise with MSC than with the more mainstream cruise lines.
@@JimZim I have been on about 12 cruises with Carnival and it's my favorite so far. We pay roughly $2,500 for a regular balcony cabin with the drink package for a 7 day cruise. I would not pay the extra just to have a larger balcony. Your video is very informative and it allows cruisers to cost compare as well.
Colleen S I love Carnival, too. I’ve been on 10 cruises with them.
Ok I understand the difference in balcony size. As for towel animals - no thank you. The cabin is boring and I don’t think I’ll be sailing with Carnival.
You might feel different about Carnival if you sailed in a Havana Suite. The corner balcony cabin shown in this video was odd, for sure.
I think people just have/bring/keep too much crap. If you need 8 closest you have problems. Serious ones
Seems like Ncl haven is better.
No doubt about that... but The Haven is quite a bit more expensive.
Someone sounds a little spoiled 😂
I don't deny it! We've been on 48 cruises and I know what "good" looks like, what "average" looks like, and what "no bueno" looks like! So, in my videos I like to talk about the things that are at both ends of the scale... the things about a particular cruise ship that are way better than other cruise ships, and the things that are much worse than most other cruise ships. Even on the worst cruise we've been on, there were a few things that were much better than I had seen on other cruises... and even on the best cruises I've been on, there have been things I've pointed out in my review that they could be improved.
One thing that is so cool for me to see is when I return to a cruise ship for a second time and see things that I pointed out in my original review as needing improvement... and they have actually been fixed! This happened to me when I cruised for a second time with Viking Ocean Cruises. There were three or four things I pointed out as negatives in my review of the first cruise that had been corrected by the time I went for cruise #2 a couple of years later. I'm not saying they heard ME and fixed them based on MY comments... but somehow, perhaps from 100 other cruisers, the cruise line got the word, and took action. And that's pretty cool to see.
And specifically when it comes to Carnival Cruise Line...
If you have cruised on each of their classes of ships, it's easy to see how they've made improvements with each class. It's impressive to see how they have improved over the years.
@@JimZim well, well done then...I was just messing with you about being spoiled..
As a RCI guy I just don't like Carnival. I don't like the design of the ships at all. Just not my cup of tea. I'll stick to RCI, I just love the ship design they do.
Enjoy RC and their tiny cabins. No one has cabins the size of Carnival!
RCI stands for Royal Caribbean International
@@viveka937 Yes, sorry, Royal Caribbean that stands for. Sometimes too lazy to spell out the whole Royal Caribbean and I just use RCI.
Not worth the price
for that kind of money why is there no sofa?
The room looks like a 1 or 2 start hotel room. Very disappointing.
You must not have cruised a lot because cruise ship cabins are very small.
I am not paying for a balcony anyway. why pay hundreds of euro's for a tight, windy or smouldering hot outside place on a cruise ship....
inside cabin for me, that way i can cruise more often.
Must be 10 haters watching this video. Anyway, good information. I would say the large balcony is a plus but the room is a little disappointing. If you can splurge, go with the Havana suite. I dare so if you don’t care about the Havana area to go for a Cove balcony which is a great value when it comes to balcony cabins. Thanks Jim!
Every comment at least has one like!😃
blah, blah, blah, blah, Jim, no matter what they do, somebody will complain about it. there's no one thing that is okay for all people, otherwise nice video.
He's merely pointing out the shortcomings so others are not caught off guard. If he didn't mention it, and someone booked the room, they would question why Jim did not raise the issue in his video. Also his low key and unbiased reviews could very well be watched by reps of the cruise lines and the highlighted problems addressed.
@@Mike01129, I stand corrected, thank you.
I guess you are going to be the "somebody" who will complain about this video then.
BeeBee's Funtastic Adventures Sorry but Jim is right. This doesn’t look like a new suite at all. He was actually being kind - it’s horrible. Looks like a Ramada Inn from 1980.
You're never in your room anyway except at night
