I have 3 rigs, and two of them are the AMD 7800x3D and the other 7950x3D, this does NOT reflect any numbers I've got, and I'm running less powerful GPUs in both rigs.
You have to make some type of configuration via commands, by software or by BIOS to the 7950X3D in relation to the deactivation of one of the two CCDs or it can already perform well from stock

I'm so torn between the 7900x3D and 7800x3D, I only play a few games, Overwatch, Albion Online, Guild Wars 2. Other than that, I do simple things on the PC. I am having someone build me a PC and they only have the 7900x3D in stock, but deep down I feel I should go with the 7800x3D. I'm sure either would be fine, I just don't know.

I have tested the 7800x3d vs 7900x3d in 12 Games with 5 resolution. Summery the 7900x3d performs better, specialy in Ghost of Thushima or Alan wake 2. The 7800x3D ist only in two games a little bit better. The 7800x3D is more hyped than it actually performs, and I previously thought that the 7950x3D was the best gaming CPU. But it only differs very slightly from the 7900x3d.

It's not usually this complicated. AMD just decided to intentionally cripple the 7900X3D this time around. They only X3d-ified 6 of the cores, as opposed to the 7800X3D's 8. But you'll be fine. In just about everything other than gaming, the 7900X3D is still better.
Returned the 7950X3D before opening the box after watching review impressions after a year of owning. Made a lot of progress for gaming but still has issues with 3d cache scheduling that require tuning. I'm not willing to do that since I only game and went with 78003dx.
For those saying is something wrong with the 7800X3D: I don't know about that but what I know is that the frenquency for the 7900X3D and the 7950X3D are way lower from what should be, as an example the 7900X3D should clock between 5085 MHz up to 5250 Mhz which gives a fairly good amount of performance, for the 7950X3D it should clock even higher, they're closer to the frequency of the 7800X3D when they should clock higher than that since AMD probably did cap the 7800X3D frequency, why they did that? Who knows, maybe for stability, maybe for effiency or maybe so the 7800X3D don't kill the sales of the other 2 X3D Skus of the 7000 Series because they created an absolute monster of CPU for gaming with high efficiency.
lemme answer that question. those speeds are correct for a stock 7950x3d. tuning the curve optimizer lower would make it run frequently around 5250 mhz but still around 5000mhy average. why 5250 mhz? because that is hard coded by AMD foe the 795ßx3d

I hear there was a patch to the 7900 recently (don't know how recent) but users reported this patch heavily increased performance.... I don't know by how much is that but I'd like to think likely since the video is a month ago this is after the patch.

That was an entire year ago, before driver/chipset updates were available. the 7800x3d released after the other 2 models, so they had more time to refine it.
I believe they have fixed the issue with the 3D V-Cache. I think there are 2 cores that go into park mode when playing games with the 9 7900X3D, preventing the V-Cache from being activated, thanks to Windows. If I'm not mistaken, I was researching and looking for comparisons, and it seems that thanks to Windows 11 and Xbox Game Bar, the two missing cores are activated, and consequently, the V-Cache is activated in games, increasing performance. Could you tell us what operating system you are using and if you are using Xbox Game Bar?
i see a 7900x3d brand new in the box for 300 with a receipt on fb market ,that's a steal to me. im very frugal and buying a 7800x3d at 368.00 with tax is not appealing to me but 300 is😃
It definitely is. Before its price drop, it was horrendously frowned upon because of the price/performance ratio. Now it’s actually worth $329 and honestly seems like the better deal for the money compared to the other two graphics cards

Maybe you wait for the next gen of Ryzen 9000 series, end of July. I think the prices for 7800 or 7900 go down.

My r7 7800 x3d is different for many point. I have a 4080 and for all test like you, i have 15 or 20 fps more... Its very strange...
