Some of these rental builds remind me sooo much of the weird things I do in the Sims. I literally made a toilet at the kitchen table and it is like...some landlord took that as inspiration.
They probably did the same thing in the Sims and thought "Fuck me, what an idea!"

That's been the standard in some countries for a long time, and yes, it makes rent seem even more excruciating.
In NZ/Australia we generally have it weekly/fortnightly (same as pay)

7:50 I usually call that a "slop-sink" a "slop-sink" is usually the sink you hook the hose of the laundry machine to. Also called a "mud-sink", because that's where the really heavy duty, after coming in from the garage and changing the car oil hand washing happens. That is far from a bathroom sink.

I think it's more weird that it's a laundry/bathroom/kitchen situation. In NZ & Australia we generally have separate laundry rooms, until in the UK etc.
@@Shae_Sandybanks Usually here in Finland, the only place to connect a laundry washing machine is in fact in the bathroom when it comes to most apartments. Big houses that have a separate laundry room can have their laundry washing machines wherever they want, but if you have a one bedroom, kitchen, one bathroom apartment you don't really have much choice :D
Also from Finland. It so weird seeing laundry machines in the kitchen! But apparently that's normal for most of Europe. We either have them in the bathroom or separate laundry room.

0:38 the master bathroom at my old place had carpeted flooring throughout most of the room (except for the toilet and shower stall areas). The bathtub was huge, but it had carpeted steps leading up to it and the carpeted walls leading up to the tub itself (similar to the pic seen at the timestamp I provided). The amount of times I used carpet brushes and cleaners to reduce the amount of yuckys that would form was insane

I remember driving a friend to look at rentals in Wellington, NZ (unfortunately at the start of the year, when all the uni students come into town). 200 people turned up to look at a tiny 2 bedroom flat that legitimately had an outhouse/long drop as the toilet. WTAF.
As someone who lives near Richlands 3:14 - WHY IS IT THAT EXPENSIVE???? The literal highlight of that suburb is a Guzman y Gomez, Cafe 63, and Cold Rock in the same spot. THAT IS IT!
There has been a trend of new houses where the entrance to the walk in closet is through the bathroom. Having lived in a house with dampness issues that is absolutely a recipe for a mildewed wardrobe.
im actually super irritated, im still living with my parents and they bought a house, showed me the listing photos but because its well out of town i havent been able to see it. i thought my room was huge because the bed in the photo is big too. nope. apparently its ai altered photos to make the room look bigger. this should be a crime

Yeah but that's all the cabinets and counter for the entire kitchen. The other side was just appliances. It does look odd but honestly, it has about the same counter space as a regular house, it's just usually in a few different spots, like on both sides or along at least 2 walls. Also, there was no dishwasher that I saw and we're used to seeing one take up at least some cabinet space. And no separate pantry, so that's all the cabinets for all your dishes, food and any other kitchen storage stuff.

PSA: Do NOT let your landlord treat you like trash. If you find serious problems with the apartment (mold, vermin, bug infestation, leaking pipes/roof, unsafe construction/appliances etc.) and your landlord ignores them look into your options!
If the landlord won't correct serious problems with the rental contact your city council, building safety inspection, Citizens Advice, your HOA, your building owner... Anyone you can think of. Do not pay to live in an unsafe apartment! If they do this to you they will do it to other people.
Consumer Protection code and Safe Housing Act might offer some solutions.
Some countries/states might even allow you to withhold rent or do other things like repair-and-deduct. Check if those are options and how to do it.

It irks me a bit how renting any property subjects you to the poor choices of the owners. Some of them are downright insulting. "Pay me money so you can live in this space I made that would put a rat nest to shame".

I live in Florida and where I live, a 1 bedroom at a decent apartment complex runs you 1200-1500 a month. But you'll still be paying close to 1000 a month for a lot of the weird looking things like were shown here- enclosed alcoves or garages and whatnot- just because we have an extreme shortage of rentals for actual living in. We have tons of stuff here that's rented weekly or monthly though- 400 a week or 600 for a 2 br house that's pretty small- because some genius allowed large corporations to come buy up all the properties and turn them into vacation rentals en masse awhile back. Plenty of room for tourist but nothing affordable for those who work in tourism making next to nothing.

The flashbacks from my last rental hunt. VERY thankful I ended up where I did!
But the options I had for some of the other places… one was a place near my previous home that I KNEW would be cockroach INFESTED simply because of the area. Which all who lived in that area KNEW it was a cockroach infested area. The house I KNOW has damage from the last hurricane, including water damage, and the police are CONSTANTLY being called on their neighbors for… reasons.
And the dude wanted $1000 for the place, with NOTHING included. For what is essentially a roach infested water damaged box. In a high crime area. Hecking NO, dude.
I still get rental notifications for that area sent to me, and he STILL hasn’t been able to rent the place out. Gee, I wonder why? 😅

Some of these would be great listings where I live in big city, where prices are insane high, I’m paying 800$ month for studio that’s basically a bedroom, ive “created” the kitchen, and share a bathroom with other room, so some of these that were $400, $600, and were clean and nice size, I would sign lease in heartbeat lol

I once saw an article a while back where someone was getting mad at rental prices in Milan. I think the guy paid 500 euros for 7 square meters.
I just saw a video where a guy was renting a four room apartment to three students (that's how they get you! They rent to students) with Internet access and guess what. The guy added a bathroom inside the bedroom wardrobe. Yes you open it and there's a toilet and a sink. I'm over here thinking America is bad. But no Italy night aswell be worse in some cases. Thank God I live with my family in an apartment. And not in Milan.
I'm in a rental property. When i inspected the house (before renting) there was carpet in the bathroom - at least though the toilet was a separate room without carpet. Anyway, mold was clearly evident on the carpet (around the shower), told the leasing agent i like the property & i would take it, on the condition the carpet was removed from the bathroom.
I re-inspected the place 3 days later (as leasing agent said carpet removed) - and it was, & the bathroom had a tiled floor. What left me kinda gobsmacked - someone had laid the carpet directly ontop of the tiled floor.

In Covington GA, my mom stayed at this really old house B&B and I went there to shower and I'm gonna be real with you it was like entering a level in the back rooms because the shower was solid black and the walls were painted dark red and it was so uncomfortable. My mom thought it was cool but that's because she was born in the 60's

I’m finally trying to buy a house because mortgage is cheaper than rent (thankfully I’ve been in a space where I can live with family to save up and make it happen. It’s not as accessible an option as people will make you believe, and I am thankful I have a support system where I can do this) and the one about “fixer uppers” is so true. One of the houses I looked at for the upper part of my range had mushrooms growing on the walls. Mushrooms. The walls were so rotted I’d more or less be spending a premium amount for the privilege to tear the house down and start again.

Personally, I get it and think that comfort and easy access to all of your amenities like a tbowl, garage, sink, bed, tv ,itchenette are not deal reakers but if done intelligently and dont skimp on the quality can be a Batcave, a mancave to be low key proud of although parties are small and liable to break all your stuff in a few short movements, especially drunken movement - I did so much damage to the shower drunkenly slipping and trying to break my fall that I wrecked breaking everything that could fall apart. Then fell out on the couch for a good while w the hot water blasting - over ten years sober and getting that bathroom replaced right now - the best bathroom money can put in a 6*6 ft closet space -oh and recently lost 20 lbs - gotta lose a lot more if this bathrooms going to be comfortable -as it is I have to step out the shower to lather up and use a spray to rinse constantly knoocking stuff about w my ahs, knees, elbows lol dont think thats going to change much but Im still grateful for all the blessings in my life - shalom, as salaam alikum, mekalekahigh mekka hiney ho keep ya head high for anything less than absolute respect -Proper Education Always Corrects Errors!

The Chelmsford, MA one is interesting - looks like they might have combined the dining room and kitchen to do the wall of cabinetry. Which, honestly, cabinetry was not a priority for 1960s houses, so I kinda get the pendulum swing to the opposite extreme 🤔
(My house had no silverware drawer. Like literally. Had to rip out a cabinet that was kinda hodgepodged together and replace it with a real cabinet that had a silverware drawer)
3bed 3bath 181m2(1948 Sqft) for $1500 (1000 USD) isn't honestly that bad for America. Considering that "Luxury" apartments start around 1500 USD for 525 sqft studio and go as high (or higher) as 3700 for 1600sqft townhome. Yet with all that "spacious" space, they still can't seem to find space to put a side-by-side washer and dryer.
These make me realize how lucky I am to have a 2 bedroom, two story house with two saunas, a barn and a big yard. 7km from the main town, 2k people small town-
350 euros per month.
Now reasons why my house isn't for everyone;
-No electric heating (there's two fireplaces and a wood stove for heating)
-The upstairs isn't fully build (so the second bedroom is only usable during summers, and the room next to the second bedroom is just... Bare floor and wall, but I'll renovate them when I buy this house)
-Surrounded by woods and fields (so a lot of smells and wild animals)
But!! The pluses of this house (imo) are;
+Has a wood stove and a baking oven (those big ones that were used to cook food before the modern ovens came)
+2 saunas (indoor electric, ew, and outdoor wood heated, yum)
+A big barn (where I will raise livestock)
+Massive yard I can turn into a garden
+Surrounded by woods
+Nearest neighbor over 500m away
And the biggest plus is that I'm going to buy this home for 30k (250-500 euros a month + the rent, which was 350 euros)
