It is determined by the note that is the root of the pertninent scale of the key (said note being 1), and hoy the subsequent degrees in the scale relate to it.
i never know how long to make the chords and is never really explained either. How does this match up with a drum part or melody? I love music but i also find Fl studio and songmaking confusing. Trying to get better and find videos to help me.
I use cubase but I will be transferring the information.. what I have trouble understanding is what key is a song and how to pick a good one for 90s style hiphop/ UK grime/dubstep. How would you go about deciding
In most cases, key is decided by the singer's vocal range and/or the upper and lower limits on the instruments you'll be using. In case none of those apply (either cuz it's an instrumental piece, or cuz you're using synths with no pshysical limitations on that regard), then it's just picking whichever key you want. Now, to determine the key you're in (in case you're using Tonal systems), you need to stablish the different harmonic finctions of the chords you're using (Tonic, Dominant & Sub-dominant).
ignoring the whole articulations he does between chords since those are not *strictly* part of the harmony, the progg would be: Bm(add9), Em7/G, Gmaj7(#11), A6, Bb°

yeah i used to use it for making midi when i was travelling or like on car rides and stuff
