Nice vid. I will definitely be changing out my draglink this week (went with Rock Jock Correctlynk drag link) after 10 years, it's time. I have lots of play in the steering wheel. Just did the tie rod, last weekend. Man, what a difference.
Great video. I love install and upgrade videos.
Andrew Neumann thanks! Great suggestions on adding “which wrench did you use” to the video. We’ll be better about that in the future!
Jeremy McLerran I wish we had this video when John and I did mine #metalcloak #JLUR .
You two make a cute couple!
He is awfully handsome. His wife still seems attracted to him after 2 decades of marriage!
I notice you guys used the pickle fork to separate to help remove the old ball joint on the old tie rod. Since the old one was being tossed, is there a reason you didn't just leave the nut slightly on and hammer down on that to loosen things?
Important words, "don't let nothing get in the way of what your tool was designed to do "" thanks so much i will remember the advice 😀
It looked like you used blue lock tight on your tie rod ends instead of anti seize??
Thnx for putting this video together. I have one question. I notice everyone ties the steering wheel, but why isnt anyone addressing the hubs moving? I'm thinking the answer is because you are finding an exact measurement between the old drag link and the new?? But I'm not 100% this is why only my assumption and no one ever clearly states that is why.
dm gmail yes, we measure the old one, make the new one the same size, and then go get it aligned afterwards.
you know i went with a metalcloak lift and didnt even know they made drag links, i just thought synergy when i did mine up. it looks beefy!
john lopes oh it’s awesome. When my stock one wears out I will definitely be replacing all of the front steering components with Metalcloak!
@@1111Overland i have been super pleased with their lift and customer service
I have their Drag link and tie rod. I have been very pleased with them.
Should have used antiseize instead of locktite... made this mistake once... ;-)
wow mines are doing the same, i can move my tie rod and drag link by hand up and down about 3 inches
Would this fit a dana 30? Non Rubicon model, same year
Not sure. I would assume so, since it’s not actually attached to the axle but connecting the wheels.
Ok so why did you install the drag link knuckle side bottom up? Im just confused as my 4.5 instructions say "drill a 7/8, insert spacer, flip drag link (so top going down into the knuckle) and tighten up.
You’re describing the difference between a standard drag link setup and a drag link flip. My JK has a 4.5” lift, so I upgraded to high Steer knuckles and flipped my drag link to avoid bump steer. Ryan’s jeep only has a 3 inch lift, so doing a drag link flip isn’t as necessary
@@1111Overland ah ok makes sense. Coming from cars so new to jeeps. After reseraching it (after posting) i finally understood why. Thanks for the reply and info though 👍
I just did this on my 18 JL .I had to stack the pickle fork on top of a 24mm open end wrench and it popped.
BertandJeep were you upgrading or did it break? There’s no way it broke already...
@@1111Overland my drag link was toast after going to Easter Jeep Safari. I have a 4 second video of my worn out stock ball joint lol.
@@1111Overland eh. 37x12.5. the new JLs come with the most lightweight components ever. Stock track bar was 6lbs lol.
BertandJeep yeah, I know what you mean. I am going 37‘s next time and choosing to get everything upgraded before I switch from 35s... so over the course of the next year or two I’ll have steering box, brakes, drag link, tire rod etc. all upgraded and then I will throw 37’s on and do the Rubicon Trail!
Did he notice a big difference in feel tighter in steering from stock?
2017 Jeep jk when he turned to one side it kind of “slipped into place with a thunk rather than the smooth movement we expected.
Thread locker? That's going to make adjustments later on.
We try to put thread locker on everything… is that bad? Educate me, I want to learn!
Don’t use ock tight your tie rod ends. Looked like you put blue lock tight on threads.
Should use anti-seize.
Zerk nut??? And lefty tighty, hmm well, everyone starts somewhere but not sure these guys are instructor material, yet..
You really use locktight ? Lmao
branko l vergara honestly? I often forget. But I always INTEND to use it...
Lol to the cotterpin. Bum
You guys are clowns I hope no one uses this as a how to vid , you should state that this is satire , using thread locker on adjustable threads is just one of the episodes of the clown show
Love the video and love the metal cloak drag link. The zinc plated bars are unique and stand out!!!!
John Otis I totally agree! That Gold Zinc Chromate adds some awesome protection and gives it a really unique look!
