For me the white V is even more iconic. I played a black 1994 Flying V for 23 years, sold it and had instant regret. But I guess it was a merciful fate, cause not long after I was able to buy a white 1995 Flying V. That’s a keeper!
Kdh just did a rundown on the actual differences between the og body shape and the 70s or whatever... I knew they changed the 'shoulder' but didn't realize the older ones were also like... *Significantly* wider overall and sadly there's not a ton of reissues or releases of that particular body shape.... Oddly... I have been on a nostalgia kick lately and spotted that hammer v in the video for spiderwebs by No doubt and like... Idk what the market is like for those but that might be a good sleeper to get real friggin close cuz I haven't heard anyone mention them in a while but.... I remember there were adds in guitar world where those guys (no doubt) were reps for hammer and had a v and explorer made that were kind of perfect... Just saying. If ya read all this hope it helps. Cuz yeah I agree. And I haven't got the cash to pull the trigger if I did find anything so I haven't looked. So best of luck and cheers
@@joeydurant6267 I saw KDH’s video too. I tried to build a kit guitar for the’58 V last year and got a right handed one even though I ordered a left. I gave it to my bro in law.
@@allenmitchell09 I just looked and those hamers are around six grand it looks like... Which still way more than I could ever spend on a guitar but for a collector type that's nothing.... Seeing it next to the epis or even Gibson's though you really see how different that og body style is. I just made a short urging someone to scoop em up before they end up being the next big 'lets chase it' piece of gear. I've always kept em in the back of my mind cuz I remember they were aggressively trying to get artists and stuff... Like they went *after* Gibson... Even went to court I think cuz they pushed how Gibson hadn't used that specific V shape for years so it should be fair use... I gotta look into this and see how much I'm remembering and how much I'm filling in the gaps cuz their story would make for a good video tbh if I'm even close to remembering correctly.
I personally would say that James Hetfield's V, the one he wrote ALL of the Kill'Em ALL songs on and still has, is the most important guitar in metal! But that is just my opinion, being a huge Metallica fan! was great seeing Baxter Hetfield, James' little known twin, in the video!
When i think of metallica i think of the chugging riffs more than Hammetts solos. I think hetfeld is the driving guitar force in that band. Ad for the modt important metal guitars, i think Iommis SG is the most important.
That guitar has been modded with new pickups, originally would come with EMG actives i believe, what would cut the price of this instrument to the half, probably more, because the wiring arrangement was done in the custom shop copying the original
Gibson is definitely hit or miss in this. The ‘61 SG Standard I bought (and since sold) had an almost bone dry rosewood fret. I was pretty bummed b/c I definitely prefer the darker fretboard. Agreed that for $15K it should have the best of the best, but maybe people want the lighter wood (???) 🤷♂️
I always loved that guitar. When kirk handed his to the crowd in the cliff em all movie they just yanked the strings right off that thing. That guitar is sick, regardless of metallica or gibson
Yep ... I'm not there, but just running some incredibly rough numbers. If it sells for 20K in 10 years ... good deal, maybe. In the mean time, I paid 8% sales tax on 15K (ain't getting that back). Plus maybe $300 to $500 each year for insurance that will actually cover it for theft, flood, fire, drunk friends, drunk me, etc. I wouldn't trust or rely on my generic homeowners insurance to cover what I paid or what it's worth. And if they did ... I would pay for it in the long run after they jacked my insurance rate up. Gotta' love it. Would be lucky to break even after 10 years. Not an investment for a little guy like me. Too expensive as a player for an amateur like me. As noted ... any "perks" not really perks for me. I do like it though. 💁♂️
Guitar prices are FN CRAZY 🤪 I personally would build the perfect partscaster, exotic wood roasted maple neck TV Jones pickups under 1500$. If you spend CRAZY money 💰 🤑 💸 you probably have more dollars than sense.
I think it’s rich people parking cash into something that consistently holds value over the last 30 years. I’m not sure these limited custom runs are going to hold value like vintage instruments though. Vintage instruments might not maintain their value if people keep losing interest in general in music
These aren't guitars. They're collectibles and investments. Only not really because their value is based almost entirely on Gibson's marketing, and probably won't hold long term.
First off would love to own this guitar package, I like a lot of various bands etc and players the hardest thing to get past with signatures currently is every bastards got one or five and some more! It’s becoming non exclusive to own any signatures the market is flooded! What’s this Kirk’s 8th various signature/limited? Every manufacturer Cashing in anyway possible! The original was the only one and “nothing else matters” yeah yeah 😂
I think that's priced correctly. You're paying for the exclusivity of it and to get that for 15k is a good deal when other stuff they're doing is going for 50k which does seem a little high... but 15k for an exclusive with extras is a very fair price.
What did he say. If you buy one of these for 15 thousand dollars, you get invited to see somone play at a small party. I would not do it. I would not spend 15.000 on anything gutiar related.
Of course it isn’t worth it in the normal sense. This signature historical instrument isn’t made as a best value product. If you are concerned about the $ just get a regular V. This is an aspirational thing.
It's just buisness... the end user gets memorabilia and Kirk and Gibson gets to split $3,000,000 @ 50-50%... ok maybe 60-40... hmmm ok, 70-30? (If Kurt $900,000 that's pretty good 😂)
Baxter plays metal like my grandfather raps.

My favorite V is the '58 original shape with the big logo, rubber side grip, and Cadillac string through plate.

Definitely enjoyed Baxter rockin the V at the end.
I'm not going to throw stones. I have one (or more) of each of the varieties of Eric Johnson's signature Strats.

Dave Mustaine wrote alot of Kill Em All, probably on his B.C. Rich
@@MikeOxmal-000 lol he wrote some, but ALOT? no
Yes a lot on Kill em all and some of Ride the lightning
Baxter playing something HEAVY was worth the thumbs up alone
We must have a Baxter heavy metal guitar show, you got the venue, get the band and lets go,

For $5500, you can get a brand new Gibson Flying V Custom Shop Black Beauty. 8 grand for a late 70s Gibson V. $15,000 for a Kirk V is insane.
If the owner loves the guitar it’s totally worth it. True joy of playing a guitar you love is priceless IMO
Jonathan looks like he's in some kind of hostage situation but he's managed to barter his way out on condition that he makes this video.

Iommi's SG
For 15k you’d think they would make sure to use dark pieces of rosewood. My $2000 SG has a much darker board.

For 15k they better hum Enter Sandman directly onto my balls
@@ericirwin4901 meh, some people don’t care at all, but those who care want a dark board 99% of the time I think.
Guess a dark board is just your preference

This video is a real bummer. You guys seem so thrilled about reviewing this guitar.
Who is Sean ? I have never seen him. He looks like a teenage. O.K.if he is.
Alright Baxter, rockin the V..... didn't know you had it in ya.👍🏻🤘🏻
What kind of Tone Bwnder is Baxter playing thru??
The only Gibson I own is a Melody Maker Flying V Anniversary. Fun to play but a bit less expensive. The ending of this video was a treat. : )
Reminds me of my '89 I paid $1500 for. Mine didn't come with any case candy or cool back story though.
Kirk Hammett Jr. Aka the Taxas Captain Kirk demos on Alamo Music. He shreds.

Not sure why Gibson hasn’t released more 70s style Vs with the proper specs.

Back patch for your battle jacket.
It looks almost exactly the same as my £1300 2003 V, but my one is red.
And the knobs are reflective.
And it’s left handed.
I would say Michael Schanker was first with the Flying V in metal??
15k for a name and a piece wood.
