The sound is so familiar. And I realize it’s the sound I am so often trying to get by mixing algos and room irs and just not getting it. This is an exciting time for reverb. Wow UAD. Wow. This plugin is stunning. It deserves a technical achievement award. And actually, I’ll just go ahead and give it the 2024 best convolution reverb of all time award. That’s right - you will never be able to find me a convolution reverb that sounds as real as this. Literally never. What an achievement this is.

Just got it......first impression, it sounds amazing!, and the versatility of design is excellent. A lot of thought went into this. There's an endless amount of possibilities. The sense of realness is startling!. Great job UA! 😉👍
There's one big downside however. I discovered something immediately after loading it into a full session that I'm finishing up. This thing is a HOG!....my system couldn't handle it, even with my buffer at 1024. CPU was maxed out !!. If you don't have a beefy system, you'll need to plan ahead when using it.

Crazy it took this long to finally get something to do this with. I tried talking the dude that bought the studio when it changed 10 yrs ago or so and I just wanted to buy an IR file and he tried hemming me for thousands of dollars….I said no thanks. I could book the room for cheaper than that and just get it myself even with the cost to get there lol
This is a game changer when you combine it with creative parallel routing and analog summing.
i’ve come to love using studio IRs/the Sunset and FAME plugins because they just make things come to life without sounding like reverb. looks like this has taken that idea and run with it! Tom Petty would love the democratization of the creative process, now kids in Gainesville and all over the world don’t have to move across the country at 18 to try and express themselves

This seems pretty special having had a go of it myself. it brings a lot of life to things, it is very good but it will end up being overused in productions eventually so get this in those tracks now guys ha ha

This looks exactly like the Ocean Way Studios plugin but with a better and more updated interface. Which is in fact one of my favorite plugins ever. I would compare both of them if you're interested in this. My gripe is that I wish UAD would update the older plugins for us customers who have been around awhile. It's a bit of a turnoff when plugins I paid a lot of money for years ago are never updated while you continue to pump out new and better plugins.

QoTSA was definitely an inspiriation for this mix! They recorded a couple of their albums at Sound City and used the 'Air' mode trick a lot on their background vocals.
Great plugin and overall package. Why can't you update Ocean Way to the same spec? Other companies update their plugins properly, why doesn't UAD?

Great! So in the first example did you use it in the Master bus? Can I use it on a non-mic track like Midi drums or another software instrument track?
The first example shows the final settings with Sound City Studios used on the drum bus, guitar bus, background vocal bus, and lead vocal track. It also sounds amazing on in-the-box tracks like programmed drums and synths!

It would be cool if they added the boundary effect or principle where the room mics are placed on the floor.
I have this and genuinely had to do a double take as I thought I was in an actual room. Only downside is it’s resource intensive.

Did you adjust the "distance" knobs? Or tried the buttons with the watch symbol (they align the phase differences)?

You can do both/either. For remic mode, direct insert i best, and for reverb mode, sends.

In re-mic mode should the plugin be inserted on the track or on a send like a reverb still?
Generally speaking, remic mode use an insert, reverb mode use a send. BUT.... they can both work in both ways, be sure to experiment.
I want to get this so bad but I’m a beginner. Although this seems like it could really help people starting out. Figuring out what goes in a good chain for things like vocals and drums is tough. This really simplifies that. Don’t know if I can justify the expense just yet. Want it so bad though 😢

What i want to knows is, where is the apollo version? I am starting to get this feeling that at some point UAD will replace all their DSP based audio interfaces with Non DSP versions. If this is the case then prices for the non dsp versions should be significantly reduced.

Both! Also works great on an aux return in reverb mode.

Does anyone know why my Capital Chambers and Sound City plugins do not open all the way in Pro Tools. I don't see the room controls on the right of screen. The bottom of screen where the mics are, are also cut off.

Yes it was added to Spark today! It may take a little bit to show up, but make sure you're running the latest version of UA Connect in the meantime.

I can't offload this plug in to my DSP accelerator? I have to use my computers CPU to process? Well that's a downer. I would of bought it right now if it wasn't for that. I spent 1,600 on an Octo-Core to not use my CPU lol

So you guys have reissued classic preamps and compressors. You have produced usb and thunderbolt interfaces. You made the ox box and a bunch of cool pedals. Now you’ve even made classic recreations of iconic microphones as well as modeling microphones to match the software from the interfaces. What I’m confused about is how you haven’t decided to make either your own control surface to work with your interfaces and software, or even a full fledged console. Keep the whole vintage but modern aesthetic going and have the control surface connect over thunderbolt or possibly even wireless. As for the console it could literally just be a giant high end console version of your Apollo line. With all the features and more. Designed to look like your old fashioned consoles. It could also be a real reimagined modern version of your original consoles. All analogue. All automated. With motorized pots rather than the standard motorized faders. Since you guys used those giant knobs instead of faders.

What console are we talking about here? Dave's NEVE? The licensing of things makes these things kind of look like a gimic, and the voiceover really claims the console is part of the Sound City whole vibe, so what is it?
I guess going off of Wikipedia - the reborn Sound City via Tom Skeeter's daughter - has Helios 69 desks and I guess the GUI here looks like those, so this is a modern take on Studio City of the rooms plus desk modeling (or?) of the Helios?
Personally, I believe Dave should have returned the NEVE back to Sandy Skeeter and allow others to experience the full Sound City experience... More like he was just a steward of it for a moment.

To me it sounds like impulse responses, not a real room. I would like to see a head to head comparison of the real room versus the plugin.
Am I doing something wrong? I put this on my tracks and they just sound…worse. A lot worse. Everything sounds more muddy yet thinner at the same time. I really liked the idea of just slapping this on my tracks and tweaking a preset to make my recordings sound better but currently I just feel like I wasted my money.
Put it on a Send. It defaults to ReMic mode which "re-voices" the track as if it went through those chains. It's not for everything as it adds a lot of color and mojo.

We sure did add a lot!! Many plugins users were waiting for!!! And now this plugin is icing on the cake!!! Spark is a powerhouse!!!
If you close your eyes and listen in reality nothing is happing 😂 or if it is it is not that noticeable maybe a touch louder 😮

Hard to tell what the true value is when we don't know how the drums or vocals were recorded in the first place.

I got this plugin and its amazing since it elevated a new song I mixed yesterday on drums, guitars and vocals, straight into the sub groups. The coloration using the mics is really good.
