    I got a French Press yesterday for Father's Day, and I found this video very helpful. It is informative and to the point also very professional. In addition to the Bodum French Press, ,my son also got me the Krups adjustable Burr grinder, and the Bonavita gooseneck kettle. And, some organic Ethiopia Chelbessa whole bean fresh roasted coffee from Kickapoo Coffee Roasters. I think I made a nearly perfect cup of French Press coffee. Thanks for your help!

    I love how everyone is complaining about the time it takes but everything here has a proper reason behind it. And it really isn't that hard to do, if you're boiling water do that while you grind your beans, that saves time. Then, it's as simple as pouring in the grounds and adding the water. When 4 minutes have passed, press and serve immediately to get the grounds out of contact with the coffee you will be drinking.

    Here's a tip for not getting any "Grinds" in your coffee. Once I pour the water in I wait a full 4 mins, then stir a bit and let sit for another 5-8 mins. Then when you use your plunger NEVER push it fully to the bottom. Rather just press it a tad under (1 inch) from the top and pour from there. If you press it all the way down you will stir up the grinds once again and you'll get a poor cup of coffee.

      Don’t forget while stirring to remove the foam and floating coffee grounds, it’ll also remove most of the unique oils from the beans that you get retain using FP but this helps there be less grounds and gives your coffee more clarity. This cupping/ “Hoffman” method is usually for lighter roasts anyway so clarity and fruity taste should be prioritized over it being full body and thicker consistency. For dark roast just stick to regular FP method tbh.

    I used to make French press coffee until I was tired of buying glass presses because of breaking them often. I just ordered a 1 liter kettle for the stove, a stainless French press 12 oz and Lavazzo coffee to start enjoying this method of brewing again; I'm so sick of Keurig coffee that I splurged this evening on the new coffee gear. I had to look up a reminder on how to make this again. Thanks for the tips, it's all come back to me now. Try pouring the excess through a paper filter. The fine particulate in the liquid will keep brewing and can change the flavor of the coffee. If you remove those particles, you might be able to retain the flavor.

    Why would you need a goose-neck kettle to pour hot water into a French press? For pour-over brewing - wherein the gradual introduction and even distribution of liquid are important - sure; but, in a press, you literally are quickly pouring water over grounds, helping to ensure agitation of the latter.

  • @umeng2002
    @umeng2002 4 роки тому +37

    Get $30 french press. Use any ole kettle. Grind beans. Put in press. Put in hot water. Wait. Press. Pour. Trial and error until you figured it out. No need to get fancy shit. Fresh beans are critical though. Taste Burnt? Water too hot. Taste bitter? Too small grind. Too weak? Grind too coarse, steep time too small, too little coffee. Trial and error depending on bean type and freshness. Change one thing everything else must change to compensate.

    • @br33zy771
      @br33zy771 4 роки тому +2

      i thought about this a bit and letting the grinds bloom doesn't make sense to me, because the grinds are sitting in water anyway. They will do the bloom thing during the normal process anyway. I think it's more for pour over where you let it blom first so that when you pour the rest of the water the bloom part is out of the way.

    • @rooky3526
      @rooky3526 2 роки тому +1

      You're thinking of percolation (pour-overs) where the blooming process is essential. No point in blooming with a french press since this is an immersion. If you add a little bit of water in the beginning or go to your full capacity brew, doesn't matter....the grounds are going to get soaked either way.

    Hi!

    • @USATODAYLife
      @USATODAYLife  5 років тому +1

      Could be tricky. Best place to start is making the coffee first but using less water so it's a stronger brew and then adding the milk afterward. The more milk you use, the less water. But really it sounds like you should be making espresso for a latte, that sounds closest to your instant method.
      Maybe just try the French Press method though - you might not need the milk :-)

Any Coffee video will bring out the "You did this or that wrong People" ! What he presented is a general get started guide (except don't break the curt at 2 minutes) if you do I would just lower the plunger to for he ground under water (if that's what you want)! There no PERFECT WAY, and NEVER will be! People will cry and whine about this and that.. no matter what! Fresh Roasted beans,,, use only after 3 to 4 days out of the Roaster! Been roasting for 20 years, nothing taste good to me out of the Roaster....., the beans have to REST and degas for a few day in my humble opinion ! But, I sure your Biddy does it different and know allot about Roasting, but doesn't have a Roaster etc., Good guide line for people starting out with the FP, but the breaking of the CRUST is a NO-NO in my world!

      @@USATODAYLife I'll have to take your word for it, seems like too much effort for me to be perfectly honest. But maybe you could shed some light on how this coffee would compare to what I'm drinking which is some kind of medium roast, pre ground but a bit on the premium side, brewed in a moccamaster. Not a huge coffee drinker to be fair, but I can absolutely appreciate the craft of these more meticulous ways of brewing coffee.

      Do whatever works best for you, your routine and your flavor preference. You certainly don't have to use a french press but if you want to, these are the steps for that. You could also try the pour over method as well. It does seem like a lot of extra steps and overly precise but once you do it a few times, it's fairly routine and straight forward. The 1 thing you probably should do is switch to grinding your own beans. Preground is a little easier and more convenient but you lose a lot of flavor and aromatics. Try grinding your own beans and see if that makes a difference for you. The best thing is to experiment and try out new methods and techniques. The more you play around, the more you discover what you like and what you don't like.

      It doesnt happen when I use my pour over :/ so I assume its because the grounds in fp absorb water?

    Really, eyeballing it and havimg each measured step a BIT off makes it perfect. If you have trouble eye balling things, 5hen yes, go ahead and measure but after a few times, you SHOILD be able to eyeball things and again, it will be even BETTER if things ARE NOT 109% correct and precise
