  • Vivek and Pastor Jim Davis investigate the crisis causing Americans to abandon their churches -- dechurching. Our hearts have God-shaped holes. In today's episode, we learn what else Americans are using to try to fill those holes right now and discuss how to restore meaning and purpose to our nation.

I am fascinated by his remarks about funding of police given technology and surveillance. Sincw homosexual skew in Dept of Justice Education means brutality toward babushkas. I regret an incident where I was overworked and a neglected blue eyed elder involving a Black SF cop perhaps trained by a well-funded homosexual police union

I like Vivek in a role other than VP. Think chief of staff or Secretary of State. (Roles that are more ‘executive’ and less legislative - eg not as ‘president of the senate’ as the VP role).

I understand the sentiment of wanting him to be VP, however, imagine what an awesome job he could do as Attorney General. Cleaning up the Justice Dept, the FBI, etc, and putting traitors in prison. That's more important then banging a gavel on ceremonial occasions and will set him up equally well for the presidency.

I came to know Christ in jail in 2013 by reading a book, "Overcoming spiritual blindness" by James P. Gills MD. The veil was taken off my eyes. Heaven came through for me. Now i have a home a husband and a lovely year old daughter (Zoa), and a stream of income that get me $25,000 monthly. I can support God's work and give back to my community. God is absolutely more than enough!

The question of religion in schools is pretty deep. It definitely needs to be looked at closely. One option is to encourage people to create many different kinds of schools and then let them compete free market style. Maybe the best option. I think the public school system should be a classical type education combined with real world skills, things like home economics. Now that I think about it, we should also find an answer to the question of what topics should be taught by schools and what should be learned at home. I'm not sure if I like the idea of out-sourcing parenting to the government, that's kind of how we got in this mess in the first place.
Government-funded education is risky since it allows for indoctrination so creating a culture of transparency would be a good thing.

I remember a time the national anthem was played followed by the pledge of allegiance then a moment of silence.. during that moment of silence you were allowed to reflect, also IF you choose to do so have a "silent prayer" to yourself in whatever religion you choose. Of course there were no smart phones. You did math on a scratch sheet of paper. Now today no national anthem,no moment of silence, 90 minute classes where both the teachers and students are on Snapchat, UA-cam,IG and Tik Tok. I'm not saying teach religion.

Official prayer(teachers leading kids on prayer)was taken out of public school in 1963. Months later, 11/22/63 occurred and there's always been a sense that America shifted from that point on.

Here are the facts about the qualifications for President. Was Vivek a US citizen on June 21, 1788? Of course not. What would that make him? Our founders were though. George Washington's dad was NOT born in England. He was born in Virginia which of course was a colony of England but again George Washington was a US citizen on June 21, 1788. Given that no one I know of who was a US citizen on June 21, 1788 is still alive, that qualification is obsolete. Therefore we need to go to the other qualification which is you have to be natural born. Born to US citizen parents on US soil. Not either or. Both. So whereas Vivek might have been born on US soil he was NOT born of US citizens. Both parents were Indian at the time of his birth. His mother later became a US citizen but his Dad never did. His Dad is STILL a foreign citizen.

Loved this episode. One thing missed in the interview--how churches failed the people during the pandemic. When we needed them most, churches shut their doors and cooperated fully with the shut down. I know they did it out of fear, but God is greater than fear. Perhaps you could interview Pastor Art Pawlowski, the Canadian pastor who went to jail and is still fighting court battles because he refused to shutter his church and refused to stop feeding the hungry. He is a very courageous man who lives his faith!

We had prayer before we started class in the assembly. We were taught to wear school uniforms, it had to be clean and hair tied. I don't know why but I loved it. Manners and behavior were given importance. I pray every day. I still use my school prayers to communicate with God. ❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏

He did a great job of clarifying the scriptural gospel when that got a bit muddy by Vivek's reframe of the reason Jesus died, but he finally nailed it at 54:12 re the shrinking of the church as a process of God in allowing the sin in this nation and in the West to become so prevalent as to overtake the church, putting it to the test which will expose those who are in it for the wrong reasons vs those that are truly loving and worshiping God.

It’s the pride cycle. Affluence creates a sense that we can take care of ourselves and don’t need to lean on God. In addition when people divide into classes it fractures society and the loving bonds God wants for his children. Humbling usually comes via wars, famines or pestilence. Then people return to God for help. As they follow the commandments and strive to love one another again that leads to a return of peace and prosperity.

One of the main answers is the rise of the mega-church. As someone who was saved, then worked for 3 years, which means I saw behind the curtain of one of the largest mega-churches in America, I can tell you that the money and influence does corrupt. This along with the feel-good style of churches where they don't want to talk about anything that might make people feel bad because they are sinning are the reasons why people are leaving the church in droves.

Somewhere at about 36 minutes, Pastor Davis says that orthodox Christianity agrees with his viewpoints. Actually, the whole concept of deserving the wrath of God came in during Luther/Calvin. The early Church didn't project an angry God onto the Father. In actually, He didn't take His wrath out on Jesus. Father, Son & Spirit are of one accord. Jesus came to recreate humanity - dying to the law of sin/death (all that causes us to live as if we are God and which produces Death in and through us) on behalf of humanity - opening a new way for us to be new creations (in union with Him). Wrath is simply a person's "No" - not an angry revengeful punishment. Father Son & Spirit (God) is Love.

Reaching out to a church you attend for help and you pay tithes to and don't get help then that would be one reason, another reason would be churches don't help like they used to for family issues and churches have very little power that can help in matters of court examples are family courts and the biggest role is separation of church and state

You might do well, Pastor, to remember what Reagan said. "I didn't leave the Democrat Party. The Democrat Party left me." I would love to find a church similar to the one I grew up in, but all of them have had to "conform" to "attract young people". And the key is the music, not the message (though that seems to have been somewhat diluted as well, so as not to offend.) It seems now that anywhere I go the question of "how Christian are you?" is answered by how quickly I raise a hand when the "music" starts. And by "music" I mean five or six words that are sang over and over, and over, and over. And over. Then a few more times. It all seems very neatly choreographed, so that was impressive, but didn't make up for the lack of actual - you know - church music.
I'm sure they all prayed for me to find Jesus, because I obviously wasn't sanctified, because I wasn't waving back and forth with my hands in the air. And I'm not talking about a charismatic church being demonstrative in the way they've always been (no offense, much love to you guys), I'm talkin' Southern Baptist!
Of course there are those churches which offer both "contemporary" and "traditional" services, but in reality they have become two different churches sharing a facility, so they'd probably be better off just kicking out all those old fashioned people who don't belong in such a hip place.
And that's not even counting the ones in which the "gay" and lesbian and gender-confused clergy wear "pride" flags for vestments.
(EDIT - LET ME CLARIFY FOR THOSE WHO MIGHT BE OFFENDED - My issue is not that there is a church that does that, my issue is that it looks like EVERY church has become that.)

And does the reason now when you go and get like roll of quarters they charging you taxes and they do that purpose so that way you don’t ask for quarters no more because he says thank God with trust is the main target they get rid of

There isn't any Roman Catholic churches near where I live nowhere close , I live in the Bible belt so what is the excuse for that ? There are Baptists, Lutheran's ,Pentecostal, non denominational, and later day saints churches , the problem is separation of church and state and also laws stopping prayer in school and educational standards when students have at least one working parent and cost of living rising and there are so many issues that aren't explained in this interview

many Christians I think don't attend church because it is not very relational at this time. people can listen to messages and music at home, so there is less of a reason to attend a service. if it does not have a relational component that works. small groups do not work to fill the gaps created by very large churches.

I see a world seeking purpose and that world includes the majority of Christians. New Christian: "I've accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, now what? Pastor: "Um, well, keep praying". But our Lord has told us what we must do and that is to love our neighbor. Trying to obey His command to love our neighbor is how we seek God for where love is, there God is also. Or as Martin Buber put it “The true meaning of love one’s neighbor is not that it is a command from God which we are to fulfill, but that through it and in it we meet God.” The churches are not telling this to their congregations.

7:31 The criticism from the left is correct in the general and wrong in the specific. It _is_ the fault of churches, but it isn't misogyny, racism, abuse, and scandal that drive people away. Those have always existed, because fallen human nature hasn't changed. It is churches accommodating and accepting the values of secular society that drives people away, because you are giving them nothing they can't get elsewhere.
10:58 Correct. "In God we trust" is also in the fourth stanza of The Star-Spangled Banner.
At various points around 38m, 41m, 46m, and 48m, Pastor Davis alludes to but doesn't outright state the following fact: it is specifically _liberal_ churches that are losing members. Across denominations, churches which preach a traditional, uncompromising, and deliberately anti-secular version of the faith are seeing attendance flourish, and this is especially true among younger people.

Christians are ok with Trump because we know 1 that God often chooses sinners to get a job done and 2 because we had no other fighters in the Republican party and we need a fighter

I don't know how to say the point I want to get across without it being rude but here it goes. I think church is basically just a fraternity for people to hang out and not be alone. The people who work in the church or assist with the church are largely unemployed, self-interested/self-motivated, and narcissistic. I know so many narcissists from churches, it's actually absurd.

I agree but their answers will be pathetic and don't worry, you just classified yourself as "spiritually blind" according to their dangerous ideology, they can have their identity and leave the rest of us ALONE but they won't, they spiritually on a mission to decimate any and all belief systems outside of theirs...they still justify everything they do as acceptable by their god... absolutely sickening

In the gaudiya vaishnavism branch of Hinduism, the one which vivek follows...there is one God but he has many Avatars or forms.
So we believe that Jesus is one of the many avatars of the same God.
So in that sense Vivek already accepts Jesus Christ as God. But obviously it's different in Christianity where u say jesus is the only way to heaven
