Terrific video about the old 9th avenue elevated. I lived pretty close to where the line traveled east and west on 162nd street in the Bronx. The line went into the hills (Jerome & Anderson station) and made it to the Sedgwick station under west 162nd street eventually crossing the Harlem River toward the Polo Grounds.
Back in the 70s at 110th St just a little west of St. Nicholas Av. the old elevator shaft for the 9th Av El that used to take people up to the 110th St. station was still there. It was demo'd in the 80s I think and the building that was around the shaft was long gone probably since the 40s or 50s, but you can see this location in the old 9th Av El movies and photos after 1915 or so.
I was able to see the polo grounds shuttle from babe ruth field ,a ball field used by youth and school games on the site of the current yankee stadium. This would be 1958 or so

You are correct. The problem was I just couldn't access this area at the time. Also, since the homeless was also in this area, I just don't know if I can film there safely. Last time I tried something like that elsewhere, I was almost attacked.
I’ve never seen that old footage. My father gave me details of the polo grounds shuttle and it has been a fascinating subject. Great work! 👍

Damned shame this line is now gone; it COULD'VE been connected to the stub terminal of the 3 train where it emerges from the tunnel....
All the els in Manhattan should have been left standing. Now people must descend into Hades, otherwise known as the subway.

Seeing what is left of the 9th Avenue El tracks I have always wanted to know how exactly did it pull up into the Sedgwick Avenue station 🚉 🤔
It did. Sedgwick Ave. was one of the stops.
