Coming from the Sony XM3s, the PI7s are worth every dollar. They blow the Sonys out of the water for sound quality, and they have the signature B&W sound signature with a bit of sweet warmth that I really like. The Sonys have the modern sound, it works but it sounds a bit boring to be honest. I thought the PI7s were already the best wireless earbuds when I tried them outside, but in a quiet room they made my hairs stand up on every track. Tidal Masters are absolutely glorious with these, just breathtaking. My home headphones are the DT1990s on a close to $900 DAC/amp setup with class A. Comparing the PI7s to that, they werent as far off as I would think. They obviously have limitations having much smaller drivers and not being open back. The noise cancelling feature is a bonus but I never used it on the XM3s so I cant say anything on whos got the best
The audio retransmission is cool. Should allow you to connect them to the IFE system on a long-haul flight. Haven’t seen that before on other true wireless earbuds.
Why would someone, who obviously cares for audio quality, buy a $400 pair of earbuds but would not care to have an EQ because they "don't want to get into all of that stuff"? Put an EQ in there B&W. This goes for you too Bose. I personally liked the Sennheiser Momentum 2 better, over the Sony XM4 and the B&W. It has nice, accurate bass, audio separation, deep soundstage and just overall great for pretty much all types of music.

I like the fact that you went for the Hi Res capability, that's a great option to consider. I use Android poweramp as a music player and only load FLAC files so in theory the B&W should be good. I have heard the M3 and did not like the sound, it was clean and bland and not exciting at all, to add to that they did not get very loud. I like my stuff on the louder side I like the bass and the crack on the snare in my ear drums. I currently use the Jaybird X3 and love those for the sound I described, but they're dying with weak batteries after 3 yrs and wire breaks. Looking for new buds, unfortunately all mfge are moving to those wireless models which I do not prefer but it is what it is. I will def check these out and compare with the M4 incase they've improved. Just my 2 cents as to what I prefer, not that it matters. Great review and thank you.

@@Peter-vo8fx You are right that AAC isnt Apple exclusive. If I may expand on your comment - Apple Music streams AAC from the cloud. One may play olden day mp3 files for example on-device through the iOS Music app. Or one may also play music through Spotify which streams .OGG from the cloud. But ultimately, and regardless of the source, iOS/iPadOS will re-encode them into 256kbps AAC to be sent to your BT devices. Even 256kbps AAC files streamed directly from Apple Music are decoded locally first, then re-encoded to be sent to your BT device. This allows for local audio effects/sounds e.g. notifications, to be mixed into the audio, and then it's encoded and sent to BT devices
Great Video! I have the MW2s and looking to upgrade to these. I’m also looking at the Beoplay EXs, but I think I may lean to these just because of the 3.5mm connection. Keep up the good work!
AAC is not exclusive to Apple devices. It runs on the vast majority of Android phones. I have the XM4's connected to a Google Pixel phone and it defaults to the AAC codec. This is confirmed both in the android settings and in the Sony app itself. The Sony app chooses AAC for the "Connection Priority" mode and switches to LDAC for the "Sound Quality Priority" mode. I've tested this on 3 other brands of Android phone (OnePlus, Samsung, Motorola) and they all defaulted to AAC. So chances are, the rest of the more widely used Android brands of phone/tablet will also work with AAC.
I am coming from audiophile IEM's and bought the Sony for ANC and make it easier when I am traveling. ANC is good but the Sound is really awfully. No Resolution, no dynamics, not loud enough.
Im very confused .. a lot of reviews say the PI7 has much stronger bass response and others say the sony has stronger bass. Which one is true> Also which one is louder in terms of max volume?
As someone who has both, the ANC on the Sonys is slightly better but no way does it beat the PI7’s. The Sonys create MASSIVE amounts of suction/pressure when you use them and actually lets in more high pitched sounds. The PI7’s still block out a ton of sound but has zero pressure when you use it. It’s extremely natural. PI7’s win easily in ANC. Much more enjoyable.

Twelve South makes a device called Air Port (or something like that) that is probably even better and very affordable, in fact I think it’s on sale right now for like $40. It works the same way it plugs into the headphone jack and transmits via BT to two different headphones. So you and a friend could watch or listen together . While I appreciate your hard work for informative content in your review I have noted that at 8:38 you have mentioned that PI7 is one of the very first one that adapted the Qualcomm Adaptive Apt X which with an do respect is incorrect since ,B&O Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EQ TWS launched before the PI7 was already supporting Adaptive APT X so was the Edifire Neobuds Pro.
“One of the first” is not the same as “the first”
Thanks! Just ordered today! I hope it works well with my Apple products.
I’m on the edge. Also an Apple user. How are they working out?
@@benvernick Two days ago, I had trouble getting the PI7 to connect to my iPad Pro. Worked before. Reset, no joy, Then connected to my iPhone, no problem. Killed the connection in their app. Then it worked. I was also getting a "pop" sound, and stall in sound when moving to other apps. from Apple Music on the iPad. No problems yesterday and today. I've opened a ticket. If it does it again I'm going to get a replacement. I do love the sound.
Works awesome with all my iphones, mac’s, ipad
What I don’t like about the Sonys which no one talks about, is they don’t get real loud, and when the volume is at max, the sound of them gets mid heavy. Back the volume down and you get the highs back. I have like 4 diff pairs of true wireless earbuds and Klipsch T5 ll, stomp these Sonys. But I like sennheiser and mw08 also. If you like 80s rock, when ed Van Halen rips out a riff, I wanna hear every detail. And the Sonys don’t have it.
how does the Klipsch T5 II respond to EQ? is that the TWS you prefer most? from reading the measurements, the T5 II has slightly overemphasized bass frequencies and underemphasized treble frequencies, so hopefully they respond well to EQ. and does the EQ you set get saved onto the buds so you can use it on other devices/computers?
Sony xm3s or xm4s? I completely agree if you’re talking about the xm3s, but the xm4s sound way better than the Klipsch and the mw08
agree, tried out 3 pairs of xm4 , the voulme is just not loud enough for my hearing. i was suprised or maybe u have to install the sony app to turn it up but then its just not making lot of sense....
@@xfsjoker6696 app gives it the eq but still not loud enough. I gave them to my daughter lol
@@tanjl6683 glad you like the Sonys. I gave mine away
B&W was not the first with audio retransmission. LG was the first.
how come i am reading from rtings the opposite of what is said here and that the PI7 has an overemphasis on bass, while XM4 has better bass accuracy?
XM4: Low-Bass -3.97 dB, Mid-Bass -1.65 dB, High-Bass 0.08 dB (Std. Err. 2.12 dB)
PI7: Low-Bass 4.81 dB, Mid-Bass 5.32 dB, High-Bass 6.52 dB (Std. Err. 5.05 dB)
Just subscribed. You hit the nail on the head. All I want is premium (world class) sound and ANC , in a simple yet elegant package. That’s what I love about my PX7, the sound is like I’m in a concert hall. And since that audio retransmission device will work with my other devices, it’s a no brainer. Hoping for a sale or slight discount and I’ll pull the trigger. $400 is a lot. Refurbished would work for me. Got my notifications on E-Bay and Amazon ready to go!!!
Okay, I see finally see some light in your comment to a question I have had. Can you please confirm whether the Audio Retransmission case will work with ANY BT headphone or ONLY the Pi7? Thanks...
@@losnantos8079 it will only work with other Bowers & Wilkins BT device’s. They do have more models than just the PI7. So for example it would not work with Bose or Sony, etc. However , since then I have discovered another device that basically does the same thing so if you have your heart set on another pair of headphones don’t let this case be your selling point. Twelve South makes a device called Air Port (or something like that) that is probably even better and very affordable, in fact I think it’s on sale right now for like $40. It works the same way it plugs into the headphone jack and transmits via BT to two different headphones. So you and a friend could watch or listen together . In fact it’s been around for quite some time so I was quite surprised to hear all these reviewers say how this is an “industry first” when clearly it’s not. About the only difference is convenience.
just got a 'as new' pair of pi7's for £87 from amazon so far I'm liking them better than the technics but worried about the battery life of the b&w so far so good, only thing i would say is you need to have the buds turned right up almost full to enjoy them
no, all 3 are abt z1r quality, which said smth abt those at range capabilities
theyre huge upgrade from previous releases though, like from highend entry to real highend
Good complete video...!
I noticed a slight mistake on aac since a lot of android phones have aac as well...
Yes, that's right. iTunes on Android will use AAC I believe.
@@WhatGear ah but you can choose the codec you want on android SBC, AAC, APTX, LDAC...
So if you want to listen to lossless Apple music i believe you can choose aptx or ldac depending on your headphones
OF COURSE. pI7 have a incredible sound and bass. You cannot compare the sound,
I just confirmed the B& W do have multipoint connect. Maybe that was an update? Pretty sure it always had it though looking at the promotional material. My PX7 have them. Don’t take my word for I though, it’s on their website.
No the PI7 don't! And B&W support told me it's not planned either...
I'm still loving my Jabra s 75T
The case transmission is not a first. LG earbuds have that feature as well
You guys aren’t making it easy to pick between the two…
Lol it's a difficult decision. Honestly both are top tier when it comes to TWS audio
@@WhatGear I just went with the XM4. I can always buy the B&W if I’m not satisfied. Now if they could combine the two and make one kick ass ear buds set!
@@alanwright782 How are the XM4s? Do they have good bass?
@@trashcantacos I like them quite a bit! I’m going to pick up the other set and do a comparison. I’ll let you know once I do so.
@@alanwright782 any updates?
The PI7's are a masterpiece. I've yet to hear either an earbud or full over the head headphones that sound better. I wish the app was better though!
I agree. Adore Pi7. Have white i think buying black. I have Senn momentum 2 black and white. Sennheiser momentum 2 and Pi7 are best in world.
I don’t know what are you missing from app. No need to put to many unnecessary stuff in app. For me app is for updates and small tweaks. If we compare pi7 app to sony , pi7 is not good app. But for me have all what i need
Try nuratrue.
I think the app is fine I have the px7.
Only would like to adjust the connection sounds.
I'm currently using the Sony earbuds and there is also a screaming woman when the battery is low. Terrible.
@@nikeu7110 how so you compare senn momentum 2 to pi7 in terms of sound and maybe other features? i used to have senn momentum 2 (but it stopped working after 1yr but got my money back lol) and now i am looking to buy pi7 .. thoughts will be appreciated
Im an avid gym goer and outdoor runner and bike rider. I like these earbuds but noone talks about the fit. Also lil rant why dont they make a securr fit add on for gym goers?
Check out the JBL reflect flow pro
@@WhatGear thankyou i will
I wonder how the xm5 vs pi7s2 would turn out
How do they sound with an iPhone as the source?
I've read elsewhere that the PI7 have abysmal, laughable ANC. How would you compare them to Sony' wm3 or wm4? I've had the Creative Labs Outlier Air for an impressive 3 or 4 years, while acquiring new (and I think ever improving to my taste) headphones about once a year. But I feel it's time for a giant leap in AQ from my earbuds. It's a variable minefield out there. Super sound but for features. Or hits every nail, but poor battery life. I find it hard to believe that Sony, Bose or AKG beat the audiophile companies TWS entries at just about everything. But they've had more practice at it, working at it for years, I suppose. Also have been liking at Master & Dynamic MW07 Plus and MW08. Followed by... Klipsch T5ii, Hiby WH2 Dual Driver (LDAC), and so on
I want earbuds for listening to high frequency beats (Hz type frequency & singing bowl frequency) would these be the best? Thanks in advance
Do they offer a 30 second skip touch setting?
What ‘s the point of good sound when PI7 is so expensive
Um you're suppose to pay more when you get better sound..
You get what you pay for. You ain’t gonna get world class sound signatures on Beats or AirPods.
The only earphone review where I laughed. LDAC = Klingon, hilarious. Great info too.
I have both and B&W Pi7 destroy my Sony is the sound department. I am selling my Sony xm4 to get senheiser M2
Hi, do you recommend the Seinhenser m2 ? Mor that’s de xm4?

Should I use audio retransmission for pc or directly connect on my pc which supports Bluetooth 5.0 which one gives less lag?
İ think connecting directly to the PC via BT would be better as it’s one less moving part. But I’m not an expert on this
Thanks
Pi7 is much better
no mic test....why?!
Idk why this video is desperately trying to defend the Pi7 even when it clearly has a disadvantage
Pi7 is best in ear on market Only Sennheiser momentum2 is equal in Sq. I have both. And senn dont have charging wireless case. And Pi7 case can connect in plane and to Mac and PC. Maybe TV but for Tv I don’t know for sure
better than a kz zax ?
You've got a lot of different earbuds that do what these do and more for less,. 😑
SONY always better on anc.. 💥💥💥
Yes, if only sound quality was not the primary requirement
@@PeterbFree it’s called knowing what you’re doing with an EQ
Sony WF-1000XM4 sounds not loud enough no bass
In other words...Download the App or die!
All depends on the environment you're in I guess - if you're on a commuter bus/train, you definitely want to use your app in terms of noise polution, where if you're walking in a town/city, you may want to cancel your noise cancellation off altogether.
Would I be able to use my Walkman on the PI 7 ?
YES
@@ericmark47 I cannot wait to play cassettes

WTF! There is no amazing clarity for the Pi7. Muddy Boxy sound.
Tuned wrong! Too much mid bass. I don't get these reviewers. What are you listening at?
Exactly! I bought the PI7’s and sent them back for a refund. The sound on them was terrible! Sound signature was dark, which lacked acid sharp details. Bass was muddy, overwhelming and vocals were depressing. I don’t understand how people rate them so highly when they sound s*it!
