    After bathing in the lights of the city, we headed to the outlying islands of Hong Kong. This is just one of them. This is Lantau Island! In the sweltering humidity we stood in awe of the Big Buddha which is the largest sitting Buddha in the world (as if we didn't already feel small and humbled) but what really took our breath away wasn't (surprisingly) our lack of exercise after climbing all those steps to the top, it was surrounding area. The mountains, the endless sea, it was unlike anything we've ever seen before and we understood in that moment why so many people love it here and never leave. Check out the city and shop until you drop, but the real gem is getting lost on those trails!

    Thanks for showcasing another side of HK. HK is actually a huge place. Most tourists only see less than 1/20th of it!

    Have taken a peek at this clip because I´ve been curious if there are any familiar spots. Have approached the monastery from the opposite side, Tong Fuk beach, via Sheng Pik Country Trail - you´ve actually recorded the exact spot where it meets the Wisdom Path (the trail opposite to the Phoenix, with the No Biking sign). Brings back fond memories... thank you for the pleasant shivers! Love your way of letting things find their way insted of overplanning.

      Because We Camp I was wondering if he has any problems with discrimination or harassment because of the beard ? It almost seems like a shield of scary.

      JADE Ha! That's the best description of my beard I've ever heard :) So far, I've not received any harassment... just blank stares... lots and lots of stares. Sometimes people will want photos with me and in Mexico, they called me Mr. Whiskers... but other than that, it's all been good natured. (although we're heading to mainland China tomorrow so we'll see hehe)
      Part of the reason I wear it is to throw people off, but to also offer up a kind of cultural exchange. After all, I'm over in their country, filming them, so it's only fair that I give them something to stare back at. Thanks again for watching and sharing!

    When I first watched a vid of yours (during my search for that bkk mall with the fish pond), I said 'oh these guys are boring.
    Right after that, though, I decided to check more and more of your vlogs and I have to say that I eventually liked you!
    What's the name of the ending song?

    • @becausewecamp
      @becausewecamp  9 років тому

      sernesai Thanks for watching and commenting; we're glad that we were able to eventually win you over! As for the song at the end, it's called 'Le MELODiST’ by Rouge Flow. We have a link to the track in the video description. Generally, we put links to all the music we use in the descriptions unless it's something very obscure. Thanks again for watching, we appreciate it!

    My wife and I arrived in Hong Kong a month ago and have been desperately searching for where you guys got those little cakes. We discovered the traditional moon cake options here but you guys had some really fancy options for fillings! Any chance you remember the name, place, or product? lol

    • @becausewecamp

      Gary Watkins Hey there! Unfortunately, we don't know the brand name or the bakery we got them from in Hung Hom. :( BUT I did some research and found this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_skin_mooncake - I think the kind you're looking for are Hong Kong made called "Snow Skin" mooncakes since they were in a refrigerated area and had lots of fillings. So, I think if you ask for them in one of the bakeries or see a refrigerated section, it might be there! Let us know how it goes, sorry we can't remember the rest of the details, but good luck!

      Gary Watkins So welcome! We can remember that the bakery was in front of a wall of bus stops if that helps! :) Let us know what flavors you guys end up getting, we could could use some mooncakes in our lives.
