THANK you so much. I have been struggling with this kick for the longest time. IM old and very out of shape. its so hard to keep ballance. THANK YOU for going slow and showing a GREAT example of this kick.
This is what karate instruction is all about, clear explanation followed with solid technique. Thanks for your continuing assistance to your brothers and sisters in our exploration of karate and ourselves. Oss ! from Maine in the USA
Great way to teach this misunderstood kick. Beginners have a hard time with it more so than kaege due to the pivot to engage the hip properly. Well done Sensei.
You know the problems of beginners; that´s why it's fun to practice after your videos and see how it slowly but surely progresses. Thank you for your good work, Sensei. I like what you do - so I subscribed to your channel and told others about you :-)
As a beginner, I was always huting my hips/femur's head when trying Yoko Geri Kekomi. This simples detail of turning the base foot helped me a lot to avoid this pain. Now I'm geting more power and height.
Oss Sensei Thank you so much for your interesting training and excellent coaching,i do appreciate your job,i wish you peace and happiness under the sky of prosperity, all the best, take care and have a good time. Your Student from Algeria
I did yoko geri keage ( snap ) . Trained same way as this video shows , but because I had great flexibility in my knees and ankles ( can turn my foot over and literally stand on my ankles ) I turned the kick into a face to face high geri keage to the face.A sort of a Billy Jack crescent kick . I found it a great kick in kumite , because if the guy did not know me and I threw that kick in his face one or the other happened .I either kicked him in the face or I missed , but even missing it sent the guy backwards and I stepped in with a fast reverse punch .lol Shame I can't post video of it .I perfected it in early 70s over 8 years of shotokan and even at 81 can still do it hard , high and fast today.
Your channel has some of the best and most detailed explanations of kicks.
Wow. I've been practicing martial arts my whole life -- This is a high quality tutorial. Complete, concise, consistent.

What's with the hyper flexed big toe? I see this so often and don't understand the benefit.
Easy to kick with the sokuto (blade of the foot) other than the Heel.
Stupid youtube... I searched "yoko geri to knee" and I see a yoko geri performed in air..
