Following on from the old penny hunt for Elizabeth II coins, today we make a quick stop with George VI.
I've built up a stock of Pennies from Victoria through to Elizabeth, many from bulk buys and a fair few from mixed bags. I've not gone through them in a long while, but I've been steadily adding more!
If you good folks in UA-cam-land enjoy this video, please let me know with a thumbs up and I'll start work on the George V pennies... then the Victoria pennies.

Hi Les, excellent video from 1900 onwards I'm missing 1919 KN, 50, 51,53.. the last 3 are hard to get hold of at a reasonable price 😎👍

Those are the tough ones, and yes, they can be hard on the pocket too. I need a 1926 modified bust, then the next oldest needed is 1894. The 1860s, 70s and 80's are patchy. I ended up buying the 1950 penny for £13 and the 1951 for £22. A touch over the odds 2 years ago, but worth it as I haven't seen many since. When I do the George V video, I'll try to keep an eye out and see if there is a 1919KN amongst them. Cheers.

With regards to your shiny 1940, check to see if there were any Proofs, it has that look about it? I picked up a very nice Almost BU 1947 Penny, mixed in a big tub of Pennies and Halfpennies in 2023 - for 10p! They can still be found. The 1952 Penny is Unique - I saw it being offered for sale in 2018 for around £130,000 - with a very detailed write-up about it. I still have the write-up.

Hiya. I've just checked my old almanac (dating back to 1967) and it says proofs were issued for 1937, then 1950... nothing in between. I think it's a coin that just hasn't travelled far since leaving the mint. Every raves about the 1933 Penny, but rarely mentions the 1952. If offered, I'll take either 🤣Cheers.

I also bought TWO Almost BU 1937 Pennies in 2024, for £3 each, they were together with the same dealer.

Nice!! I've occasionally found that buying a few other odds & sods at the same time, you strike up a deal with the seller, whether it's online, at a dealers or in junk shop! Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Cheers.

Be very careful keeping coins in Plastic, especially Bronze and Copper coins.

Spot on! They "sweat" and can become "sticky"... all to do with the reaction between the metal composition and the plastic. The coins displayed in my videos are in books for ease, as trying to show 20+ coins, all in capsules, would be a nightmare. Cheers.

Hi Jimmy. No UK One Penny coins were officially minted for 1952, but there is a rumour that one, a pattern piece, was produced and is with the Royal Mint. Bear in mind that similar pre-decimal coinage was also produced for the Channel Islands, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Canada etc, but these would (normally) show the region on the obverse. If you think you've got a 1952 UK Penny, I'd be interested to see it - please feel free to drop me an email with a couple of photos and I'll try and confirm either way. (email address = lescoinsyt@gmail.com). Cheers.

@@jimmymorrison9824 Hi Jim. Not a problem and you're welcome. Most of us try to give accurate info and we're usually the first to admit any errors or mistakes. The internet is full of information but it's knowing where to look and hoping it's reliable. Wikipedia is quite good, even though it can be edited by pretty much anyone. The page for the old UK Penny can be found in the following link and the figures are accurate (I have a little contemporary booklet from 1969 with the same info) --> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penny_(British_pre-decimal_coin)#Mintages Cheers.
