    The only feedback or input I would give is, those Millen HV connectors are extremely dangerous and prone to fail. We don't use them in any amp over 5000v. There's been many ops ride the lightening because of a failed HV connector, much safer just to feed the HV wire in directly. I'm sure you also plan to upgrade the SO239 on the output side. The "open frame/slapper" relay will be fine if you don't plan to run the amp full tilt. By full tilt I mean 7kw avg plus. One of my 3000s does have a slapper relay, and only runs on a 1.5 amp 5200v transformer. I keep it at 4000avg or below. Another larger 3000 uses a 7.5 amp ccs transformer 6000v, definitely use the vacuum relay on it, as I have seen 8500-9500 avg with 400 in.
    Nice to see you diving into tube amps, once you reach a certain power threshold they are the best and really only option. Solid state is fine for 8kw or less. Excited to see your final video and the numbers you see! Keep it up

      Thanks Rooster for your input. I do plan on replacing the Millen connector, On my next build i am using a Jennings vacuum relay but this first amp if for me and I can alway get a vacuum relay down the road. I don’t plan to run this full tilt. But tunes are the best and only option in my opinion for anything above 2kw RMS. After spending 2 months pulling my hair out trying to parallel 4 x LDMOS, I won’t build anything more then a 2 device.

      @@NeedleBender785tbh, the slapper works fine even at higher levels. The real issue is hot switching. That's what causes arcs. Build a circuit to stage the relays so the output relay makes before the input really closes. That way you can be sure it never has current trying to arc through air (plasma creation)

    looks great. the tube data sheet will have appx burn in time. ok to go longer the first time. this tube is made to run 24/7 in broadcast transmitter. great time to test filament voltage and amps. Penta lab tubes are great . they test them before sent out. that test data is in the package. I love that. 73's

    That's very nice man. I know how nice it sounds on the air. Keep up the good work.

    Beautiful work. I'm having a funny idea lately of what could be done with just copper, carefully arranged in space. I don't think we've seen the end of what magic could be accomplished with well-formed copper structures in air.

    Hey I’m in Cleveland! Ridgeville to be specific. Just started getting back into radio a little bit ago. Just something to keep my brain occupied in the off season of racing.

    Simply applying filament current will not degas any tube. I don't care who said what. That's an old myth. The only way a tube will degas is if it gets hot by application of high voltage, now I don't mean that you have to put 10,000 volts on it, but even a couple hundred volts. Let the tube conduct and get the structure inside hot. You can google on UA-cam over here people that have set up test fixtures for 3-500z tubes, they usually run line voltage or maybe just above on the tube with variable bias. So they put the tube into conduction so it'll conduct a quarter amp or a half amp or whatever. But at very low voltage let's say 120 volts. That will degas a tube if left overnight.

      Thanks for your input, I did run it with HV on the plate and some bias current to heat things up. But I appreciate your input.

    Did you sweep that choke for any resonances? It seems large.especilly for a mono band box.

    • @NeedleBender785
      @NeedleBender785  Рік тому +1

      I only did a sweep with it in circuit. Works really well though. But good point on testing on self resonance.
      Thanks for the input

    Would a metal shield around the blower help noise? Id imagine youd pick that 60hz up through the motor

    • @NeedleBender785
      @NeedleBender785  9 місяців тому +1

      Actually there is no 60Hz noise at all, or at least I have not come across that with this setup. Now regular noise is a bit of an issue. There is zero 60hz noise.

    How much resistance do you use to ground (the 3 little resistors you have hooked up) off the anode of the tube to simulate a load so you can check the tuning?

      You put down a deposit and wait 3-4 month like the rest of the customers. These are specifically made from the most expensive parts money can buy. If you are looking for "budget or saving money then you came to the wrong place.

      you realize saying "CB Band" is redundant don't you? If only you were half as sophisticated as you'd like to believe. Citizen's Band Band aka CB Band
