WORLD CHAMPION vs AMATEUR CYCLIST : Interval on the wheel of Remco Evenepoel 🚀
- How often you have a chance to follow the wheel of #worldchampion 🌈 ? Let me guess - almost 0% chance. But during winter training camps its possible to meet Pro Riders and even ride with them for a few minutes if you have power in legs. Luckily I record almost all my rides on GoPro, so can share this video with you.

that Zwift sound is killing me 😂
Yes I lol’d heavily as soon as I heard it
It made me stop and try to close Zwift . . .
@@mathewrose2951 I started spinning my legs even though I’m lying on my couch
😂😂😂😂 I was thinking the same thing… someone’s gonna be getting a letter.. 😂😂
@@goonzjav😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The cycling etiquete is to ask someone if you can follow his/her wheel. Good that you reacted after he asked you to stay away, but following someones wheel without even saying helo, agknowledging you are there is not a nice behaviour. BTW Thats some serious power you have there in those legs. Impressed!
True, but also asking to stand back after you tried (expected) and failed to drop someone on an interval isn’t nice either.
Remco is a complete douche and this video is ample evidence of that. Get the hell off your high horse, thinking you own the road. Ivory castle syndrome.
drop I mean, make it fall.
Every time i see this video, i wanna go do hill repeat.
Remco asking not to chase is best compliment u can get, wouldn't be mad at all. Phenomenal shape, great video
Thanks)
Just goes to show what an utter asshole Remco actually is.
the background tune 🤣 impressive riding man! that's some serieus power you are putting out 💪
I have nausea just by hearing it
Same tune as in the Zwift app (in the menu not at riding).
You did something right in your training when the World Champion has to tell you to stay back instead of just riding away ;)
uhu, have you seen his heartbeat rate? Maybe better he backed off, for his own good
@@robsteries If you HR is under 200 then you still got more left.
@durianrider wow, you're dumb, not everyone has the same max heart rate. This guy was clearly on the limit lol.
@@durianriders Even at 45?
@@dzrdza HR is individual, some go higher some go lower... stop trying compare HR... makes no sense
I was riding on his wheel during a long easy ride earlier this season, no issues from his side. Probably it's not an arrogance, just doing intervals with all the surges and slowing downs + having someone you don't trust on your wheel? Honestly, most people would have done the same.
nah its arrogance ... he's known for it
@@tomweyts how is it arrogance? He is minding his own business… training and you have somebody in your wheel just gliding a long with you and filming you… most riders hate that
@@tomweyts no you just don't stay in the wheels without asking!
Dude, you're going up a damn mountain how fast are you guys going that he's so worried about getting rear end? 😂
@@misaeltejada6239 30 kph during the surges, as you can see on the video
He is on a 54-42 crankset, so that means an advantage cross chaining ( less spinning more power put down on the pedals) on the 42 tooth ring, great ride and awesome video.
Interesting to see how he works to maintain constant power through the turns. Thanks for the share o/
You did a good ride. Congrats for such strength
Beautiful climb. Great effort. I'd still be at the bottom when you got to the top. 😁
it's funny to read about zone 2 for Remko and 5 for Artem, they have a difference of about 1-1.2 wkg, Artem is a strong amateur cyclist and recently was the winner of the Turkish mountain race, his heart rate of 180 is a normal working zone which helps him sit on the wheel while Remko it works, Artem also has an FTP of 5 WKg, which is a lot for an amateur and which 99% of the commentators here don’t have, it’s just ridiculous to read from you about watts and heart rate zones)))
And I’m proud with my 3W/kg FTP 😂🎉
Well actually 3,6 W/kg
gotta count in the massive doping in pro cycling
@@chonko31 - Nothing wrong with 3.6 Chonko. Granted, you might be a fair bit away from the Pro ranks, but assuming you push yourself hard during solo training rides, my guess is that very few ‘weekend’ riders pass you by on the road. Your the one flying past them. Am I right?
Me with my 2,4 💀 Women power 😂
Brother, you LEGIT! You laying down some serious watts.
Impressive! Well done for respecting his request to stay back. He must have enough people following him around all the time.
Exactly cut Remco some slack here. If he feels unsafe with someone on his weel, he has every right to ask for some space. Not sure that what he did was rude,
It’s hard to be polite at 350W++.
very strong ride. Congrats.
Can we just acknowledge how good a shape the guy recording is. Bravo.
What makes you think this is ok? The pros really, really hate when you do this and they hate how it makes them look arrogant when they have to tell you to stop for your and their safety.
On the surface it's all innocent enough, but it doesn't take that much before it becomes dangerous -- a misjudged turn or sway here or there and it's goodbye classics, Worlds, Vuelta and everything else in that season.
I remember a podcast by Brian Holm where talks about these guys and how they wait outside the riders' hotels when they're on training camps. They'll ride along in the back for the experience, but they have nowhere near the needed bike handling skills and that often puts themsleves and the pros at risk.
This comment should be automatically pasted as a reply under every comment saying "oh how arrogant".
Félicitations d'avoir rester dans les roues. Great
My guy was in zone 10 the entire ride.
🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣
That's what EPO can do for you bro!
What app did you use to add informations (speed, power, hr…) on your video please?
Great effort well done 👍
Dont delete it. Its already going around the internet elsewhere. Theres no benefits to you if you delete it and he doesn't have a right to tell you what to do.
Great leg's, did you have Strava?
He was afraid !! 😂 Good job 👍
Nice ride bro! Cool footage.
Artem, now I'm not so worried that once on Obukhovka I couldn't hold your wheel😁
ALICANTE!!!!! THE PARADISE OF CYCLING!!!!!!
Congrats, good effort 👍
Strong ride keep it up
I wish I could ride like you 👍🏼
I see some comments criticizing Remco here, but he has his reasons. Having a stranger right on your back wheel can sometimes feel equivalent to a tailgater that’s on your rear bumper when your driving. It’s a little unnerving and tests your patience. The amateur rider certainly shows his fitness here and didn’t do anything wrong, but I don’t feel Remco did anything wrong either.
Good ride Artem 👍🏼
he even takes care of curve technice in the uphill
Well done for straight away honouring his gesture and dropping back (also for not sitting too close on his wheel in the first place). Remco's loss now: he had a great PR opportunity here. He could have very gradually increased his power, whilst encouraging you to hold on till you dropped. Guess he had some very precise numbers to hit and wanted to focus.
I don't think Remco cares for the credits he would get for dropping an amateur rider lol. He was probably just sticking to his training plan.
The guy is a professional, he is not riding, he is working. That's a big difference
Working in his case, is making your sponsors happy.. Sponsors want their product to be associated with "feel good". Doesn't matter wether it's a win, having cool banter with some youtuber or cuddling kids and bunny rabbits. Again: he missed an opprutunity here.
@@dieterbierman9803 Remco does plenty of publicity and has a good profile. I give him more respect for not pandering to annoying youtubers, 'influencers' and general attention seekers.
There are some seriously weird, intense people in the endurance sport community. Particularly amongst the 'influencer' set. He doesn't owe them a thing.
@@cmathews1I don't think he's got such a good profile, image wise. Hence all the haters you see reacting to this. Personally I don't give a shit, but just think he missed an oppurtunity to gain some goodwill here.. I bet if he want's to earn lots of extra money doing shampoo commercials or something, it would help to.
Cheap furniture felt pads placed on GoPro mics work wonderfully in suppressing wind noise! Nice colors, is it some adjustment in post or one of GoPro color presets?
No adjustments, just pure video straight from Gopro11
How did you combine gopro with Heartrate and powermeter?
I don't mind if people ride behind me, except when we enter a city. I ride easy inside city limits and stop for traffic lights, and wave cars ahead. It feels unsafe in the city as I will put my breaks on, and the group on my wheel general does not. For the rest - I found Phillipe Gilbert a real king, I rode with Pantani - a nice guy. Most pro cyclists are nice guys. It is a terrible for what happened to Rebbelin - another great guy. Scarponi...
with pantani?
@@jancr11 We were the same age, so sure. Raced against him, But just in general, most cyclist spend 75% or their time riding in Zone 2. A 16 year old riding hard can overtake a pro rider during trainings.
Strange reaction from the world champion regarding you… but really great performance from you on his wheel. You impressed me !

Bravo 🦾 Respect 😉

Hi. Great effort!👏 I just have one question. Did Remco speed up after he signaled you to leave him? Or could you have followed him longer? An article on the internet says Remco purposely sped up after that.
He said stop, I respect his request so slowed down a lil bit to give him space

@l.d.t.6327 so what?...that comes with the territory. You wanna be a star for all the money and glory you have to accept the "drudgery" of interacting with fans. Every job has its downside. These pros need to learn about branding and marketing.

Nice video
It supprised me he didnt react why you where following him. Remco is a verry good in the mountens. Maybe not like pogacar but verry close. You should be proud of youreself you could follow him that long... I noteced a few times he went to the left to let you feeling the wind. Gr8 work!
3:05 Remco: "you are now banished from this realm, be gone!"
Meanwhile Remco was on 6 hour endurance ride listening to podcast and dyeing from boredom :D
Should have asked to follow him first. He is the world champion, he doesn't want to train with everyone following him around like fanboys, it's understandable. Great video though.
Its a public road. If anyone wants to stay in his wheel they are allowed to (As long as they can keep up ofcourse)
That's rude, however he is get annoyed, I feel it's rude to say someone go like this, I get annoyed too while a random guy jump on my wheel especially with a normal bike (not a road bike) but I never tell them go because it's rude to do it, but when I find someone is training, I have no problem at all, and the company feels good, I will encourage him instead if get dropped, and many cyclist train with pro teams and the staffs tells them nothing
Acting entitled just because your world champ isn’t how to gain fans. No harm coming from someone trying to stay on the wheel. I know perhaps he doesn’t want to be responsible for any accident potentially which would also possibly endanger him and jeopardise his season but could at least be friendly about it.
@@goonzjav also being a pro rider & a world champion, doesn't mean he is above amateurs, there are amateurs who has the same level of the pro but they just didn't have the opportunity to join a pro team
@@redben9046 this is true but he isn’t to know this. Not defending him all I’m saying is he could have dealt with it better for sure.
I don't have any experience with this but is it common for riders to stick to other riders wheels when training alone? It would annoy the hell out of me if there was someone breathing down my neck when i just wanted to do my training in peace.
hahahah he was just salty he could not get rid off you with the sprint😂
1. He tried to drop you but he couldnt bro. He kept looking over his shoulder after his surges but you have put in the work so could match him.
2. Remco has the talent but his ego is going to be his undoing.
3. It is a public road not a race. You have every right to be on there. If he doesnt want you on the wheel then he can tell himself to stop riding slow or slow up and let you go around. He just showed a few hundred thousand people how arrogant he is lol. What a brat. No wonder he is losing friends in the peleton already.
4. You are not causing any danger and if you are pushing those wkg for that long then you are obviously an experienced rider especially uphill. His arrogance was uncalled for. I would have just smiled and said back to him 'stop riding slow and go bro! Lets go!'.
5. That said Id be frustrated too riding a rubbing rotor flexy SL7 and a Strava lover on his rim brake bike was keeping up with me no problems hehe. Id ask to swap bikes though vs tell the rider to stop. What a brat lol.
Thanks for support ✌
A lot of people disagree, but in my opinion you can ride wherever you want, aslong as you aren't purposefully aggrivating someone. He is World Champ...adored by millions..paid millions...he should just crack on and realise it is bound to happen in cycling havens, and it is infact positive. No need for the dismissive gesture in my opinion.
Strong ride! Must be a dream to ride there at the moment with all the pro's. Just a little sad the way he told you to not follow him anymore. Cyclists run into each other all the time. Sometimes I drive quietly, lose motivation, someone overtakes me and I accelerate to drive back there. Just in the wheel, but if I can catch up I will do it again. If you don't want someone to be in your wheel, you just have to drive faster. As a professional cyclist I would just like it if people try to keep my wheel. Let's see how long they can hold out. After 5 minutes at this pace I had congratulated the person in my wheel. That's the fun part. Amateurs trying to follow pro's.
Nice bro I hope your one of becoming pro. I subscribe to your channel
how do you overlay your ride data onto the video?
Garmin VIRB software
Fantastico , bellissimo !!
I think remco have active regeneration 🤣
People making it sound like Remco went crazy. He asked to stop following once (he didn't scream or went mental at the person), before deciding to just blow the person out of his wheel.
didnt even care about dropping them, just doing his interval lol
3:06 and he has earpods, right? In Spain this is Ilegal because you have to be focus on the road
I hope you did a PR in this climb ! well done, I don't get the point if someone wants to try to follow his rythm, if he felt not confy, he can push more the pedal and tha'ts it :)

Complimenti, grande gamba...

Bangin out 400w handy enough 😂
Should've just went around him instead of dropping back 😆
Sprinting away from him and taking an other route or faking that someone calls you to don't have the shame that he overtakes you again.
Silly you, look at his heartbeat. He would have died with a heart attack ;)
did you still catch the renco? He was putting a rope around your neck, I'd like to see his heart rate, which lowered the watts he was going to, congratulations for the video and for managing to increase the wattss
