  • Version 1.4.2, where Space Exploration and Back to Earth DLCs weren't released yet.
The only major mistakes that I can remember are failing Training Run #3, forgetting to wreck my machine after the 19th checkpoint on Coastline Ironman (lol) and crashing on God of War and Total Control.
So it actually went better than I initially expected as there are a bunch of events, where it's difficult to consistently get the platinum medal.
Otherwise the menuing was horrible and this run is still very improvable.
However the category got longer than I'd like to have it, so next time I'm running this is probably after wallgrinding is fixed.
Speaking of wallgrinding, I tried to reduce it to a minimum, but on some events getting the platinum medal is almost impossible without it, so I went all out there.
If you want a complete list of all the platinum medal requirements then take a look at Cow++ guide here: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles...

I've seen leaderboard times that are like 22 seconds for maps that have a 45 second gold medal requirement and that shit drives me nuts, I can't even do some of the pure races and get a medal

Hey dude have you ever played skydrift? It's got similar mechanics to redout but it's airplane racing.

Outdated game version, but I cannot for the life of me do the whole "Strafe More, Turn Less" strat the community touts. It just feels so unnatural and obtuse.

It is indeed PC. The XBOX controller layout, but not XBOX itself because I heard that version has terrible performance.

That was done before Space Exploration and Back to Earth DLCs were released. Of course I could have done another run later with both them included, but I still have never practiced the new tracks and I really wasn't in the mood for runs that are longer than 3 hours.

After the first stage: *How does he do it?*
    (Do you ever brake?)
My review after 11 hours. Interested in how much this is a git gud issue, and how much of it I got right:
Overall meh game. Has nothing to do with F-Zero and is inferior to it. Convoluted and imprecise controls and handling. Good luck mastering that and have fun bouncing from fall to wall.
Most of the items you can equip are garbage.
Class 1 races is where the game does okay, but as you get higher, it crumbles under its own ambitions and shortcomings.
The AI feels super artificial and cheaty. No matter how fast you feel like you're going, unless you're significantly ahead it can zip past you at any time. And a single mistake, even if you're way ahead can cost you the whole race.
The jumps are ridiculous. This is the first racing game I've ever seen where boosting before a jump is a BAD idea. Overshooting, crashing into "safety nets" and into other objects is common. Not needing a boost applies to most jumps but not all, so it's a trial and error nightmare. The shitty air control doesn't help.
The level design constantly makes you take blind turns. The levels are narrow, have fun not bumping into anything.
The pitch mechanic isn't interesting. It's just extra busywork for your fingers and is barely utilized. They could cut it and the game would be better for it.
Taking corners the "correct" way, as in breaking or strafing loses you more time than just ramming into the rails and sliding on them.
No rebindable controls and all the schemes are questionable, asking of you to press multiple buttons at once for some maneuvers. It's tedious.
That's it from the top off my head. It has its moments but they're few and far between. The game doesn't reward or celebrate the player much at all either. There's barely any hype. And the pros are outweighed by the cons. Disappointed.

I'm adding my own opinion to your comment, as i really like this game and spent a lot of time playing it and trying to reach the top of leaderboards.
Boosting before a jump is in no way a bad idea, overshooting / crashing only come from your error. Also, while the air control is difficult to master, it's in no way shitty and is pretty straight forward as long as you don't try to cut.
The level being narrow is a non issue, the game pride itself in being difficult and after a bit of practice you can easily score perfect lap. There are some blind turns though.
I do like the pitch mechanics, imo it's a nice addition and it's widely used through the whole game. You can also use it to intentionally leave the track and gaining some time by being in air mode.
The "ramming into the rails" is indeed a valid way to take turn, but it's far from being the optimal solution to every turn. Also the "sliding" that happen in this video has long been patched with the introduction of red rails that will just stop your vehicles.
No rebindable controls on the other hand is a real problem.
Also i feel like the dynamic music of the game really build hype when doing good race.
This game is easily a 20/20 for me, but i have to admit i did have a lot of trouble when i started back then, it's definitely not beginner friendly.

@@Silentmouke Guess I expected an arcade racer which this isn't. It's more like a sim and I'm not a fan of those. Thx for your time and enjoy the game! I'm gonna play GX on Dolphin instead.
