I was a fellowship leader in a Pentecostal church, I resigned at some point because I was not comfortable with the denomination and the messages I preached, But this scripture, Luke 9:62 “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” Kept speaking in my heart and pricking my conscience, then I knew there is Truly an assignment for me in the vine yard. Thank you Jesus for leading me to teachers like Pastor John 🙏🏽
Why would we not meditate on his word day and night AMEN. I was recently born again I know it and got saved and I cannot cannot get enough of Gods word my whole life I wanted to be like my grandfather growing up on the farm he was a Godly man 24/7 and always tried but of course felt awkward at times in church or fell to peer pressure and always fell back to sin and said wow he has a level of “discipline” never seen in many men to live for Christ so consistently and how he said the things he did and applied Gods word BUT NOW I see and KNOW AND FEEL it was SALVATION.. the NEW BIRTH!!! It can’t be explained it’s a beautiful thing and there’s a couple days here and there I felt God revoked the Holy Spirit from me after some sin and I lost my salvation but he’s a gracious God and revived me and I am so so so so grateful and beyond blessed he saved a no good sinner like me reguardless how tough I think I am from being a farm boy or cowboy and being the Army I am NOTHING WITHOUT CHRIST BUT A HELL BOUND SINNER 🥺🥺🥺thank you GOD FOR YOUR UNSPEAKABLE GIFT!!! And may he use me as a tool to live through me blessing others and give him ALL THE GLORY. AMEN
Charles Spurgeon once said something to the effect that a person should not preach unless they are called to preach. He was discussing preaching as a source of livelihood that was going on in his day and still goes on today.
A rough summary: Is there a call to ministry? Yes, and this is a process by which one might hear the call (or any calling): 1) We present ourselves, our whole life, at God's feet. 2) We totally surrender our mind and heart to God so we can discern and approve God's will in our life A sequence specific to discerning a call to preaching: 1) Prayer (i.e. Psalm 25) 2) Meditate on scripture (i.e. Psalm 1) 3) Be alert for specific texts to take hold (e.g. Paul citing Isaiah 52:15 in Romans 15:20-21 to preach the gospel where it had not been preached) 4) Desire (is there a longstanding desire to preach?) 5) Gifts (i.e. is there a spiritual gift in using the word for their help? AND do people affirm your gifting to help others with the word?) 6) God sovereignly assigns to ministry (i.e. God sends people authentically, and therefore there is authentic preaching)
Trust in Him and in His strength. Seek the Lord and His strength. He will strengthen you! and He will help you! and He will uphold you with His righteous right hand! For without Him we can do nothing. praying for you, trust in Him!
Yes be faithful in sharing testimony of what Jesus has,and doing in your life and the Lord will bring people in your life . I've shared with thousands and led many hundreds to christ. It's actually far simpler people make it out to. 2 pray ,it goes without saying but will do so little if we are honest
I can almost see his pillar of light shining through this screen!!when Jesus said be an example to others an let your light shine.he definitely had Pastor John in mind when he said it!! Thank You for your years of Ministering.Love You Brother
This man John Piper for I only trust in his teaching. He knows the deep things of God. ( I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, but they didn’t see it. And they longed to hear what you hear, but they didn’t hear it.) Matthew 13:17.
Really fascinating. Thank you for the video, @Desiring God :) very helpful. May God's grace abound with your souls : ) have a wonderful day in the Lord
I have a conundrum. I am unsure if I am called to preach. People around me say they love the things I say, but I have schizophrenia and autism. It would be very hard for me to preach. I can't even work due to it. Still I wonder if God would overcome this. I have a few texts that stick out to me but this one I always get this weird thing from, kinda like what John Piper said Paul did with Isaiah. Joh 21:15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” Joh 21:16 He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” Joh 21:17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. Joh 21:18 Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go.” I dunno what to do. if someone could help me with this please thanks.
@@troymilliken6792 that makes you sound like you're against lay preachers and also like you think you need a certain academic level, neither of which stopped the Apostles.
Desire is absolutely crucial because it is almost impossible to get into ministry unless you have 💰💰💰💰💰. So God's sovereignty is required. Shouldn't be so burdened by entering "the ministry" when the qualifications are so materialistically high. You can preach on the street. And confirmation doesn't come from "affirmation" it comes from people being angry with your conflicting worldview. BECAUSE THEH HATE HIM AND THEY WILL HATE YOU.
Wow i hope you have grown in Christ since posting this comment. See the light! Ministry has got nothing to do with money 💰😄! Whoever told you that was incorrect. God provides! God bless you 💚✞🕊
💜✞🕊 what if you have been feeling led to start a church and multiple people have suggested strongly that you preach and all signs are pointing toward this but you don't want to? You do but you don't... you have other goals/dreams, don't want to stay in this city forever, don't want the responsibility of leading a church, etc... but day after day, night after night for 2 years or so it's what you keep doing... studying, worshiping, preparing messages, answering questions from a Biblical perspective, stopping to help people, ministering to them, sharing the gospel, explaining Christian things to people.... but then that side of you that doesn't want to do this as your primary work in life, comes back and keeps me from pulling the plug and going all in... only to be drawn back in... Bible in hand, on desk, paper and pen and note cards out... feeling at complete peace diving back into The Word and preparing a way to relay our to others... and realizing in that moment, there is no other thing better nor more important to do with my life - besides taking care of my family - than helping people hear and understand The Word of God and how to apply it to their lives... thank you in advance.

It's helpful to remember that it's not just pasters who can preach, but elders too.
Yes, but haven't been trained on same level.
@@troymilliken6792 that makes you sound like you're against lay preachers and also like you think you need a certain academic level, neither of which stopped the Apostles.
That's correct. You do need seminary training.
@@troymilliken6792 seminary is a pretty modern invention. The Bible doesn't say you need to piece of paper to preach the true Gospel.
