NEUE STIMMEN 2011 - Final: Jongmin Park // Carl Maria von Weber, Der Freischütz, Schweig, schweig

Jongmin Park belegte den 2. Platz im Internationalen Gesangswettbewerb NEUE STIMMEN 2011 und wurde mit dem Publikumspreis ausgezeichnet. Er sang diese Arie im Finalkonzert am 22. Oktober 2011.

This of course in not a bass aria at all. The bass in the piece is the Hermit who only sings in the last scene. This is called in the score a baritone number but it's for baritones like Wotan or the Dutchman or Boris. Mostly older basses sing it because it's so damn theatrical unlike the role of the Hermit. Park is supernal on this very difficult piece. I tried it for a while - damn but those runs are hard and where to breathe? Park is amazing.

Gottlob Frick sings it, I think a bass voice suits it very well.
