_On the basis of size..
Rural settllement..less big ,dense and compacted and space between size is more.
Urban settlement.. More big, dense and compacted, space between the houses is very less.
On the basis of occupation..
Rural settlement... People engage more in agriculture, mining, fishing activities.
Urban settlement.. People engage more in secondary and terrtiary activities.
_On the basis of mobility and relation...
Rural settlement... People are less mobile and their relations are not so compacted to them.
Urban settlement.. People are more mobile and their relation confined to themselves.

In this type of settlement the dwelling of house in a compacted way and distance between the houses less.
Houses built in a area different from pastures and agriculture land.
This type of settlement mainly found in fertile alluvial soil, north eastern states and areas of bundelkhand and nagaland for purpose of security and defence purpose and rajasthan due to scarcity of water.
_ semi clustered settlement..
It is the combination of both dispersed and hamlet.
In which house were fragmented and clustered in a particular area. And dominabt person of village lived in a centre.
This type of settlement mainly found in the areas of part of gujrat plains and rajasthan.
_hamleted settlement..
In this type of settlement the unit of house clustered in some area with group then other.
This type of settlement found on the basis of ethinicity, religion and caste people living separately.
This type of settlement found in lower valley of ganga plains ,himalayas and chattisgarh.
_disperesed settlement or isolated ..
In this type pf settlement isolated huts, hamelets of few huts found in remotes jungles.
This type of settlement developed on the basis of resources and terrain.
This type of settlement developed in the area of uttarakhand, himachal pradesh, kerala and meghalaya.
5* name the areas where clustered settlement are found.(1)
_areas where fertile alluvial found .
_north eastern states
_bundelkhand region and nagalnd for security and defence purpose.
_rajasthan for scarity of water.
6* name the places where semi clustered rural settlement found.(1)
_part of Rajasthan and Gujrat.
7* name the place where hamleted settlement found.(1)

_lower valley of the Himalayas
_middle and lower ganga plan.
8* name the place where dispersed settlement found.(1)
_uttarakhand
_ Kerala
_ Meghalaya
_himachal Pradesh.
11* name the modern towns.
_mumbai (Bombay)

_chennia (madras)
12* write down the classification of town on the basis of size of population.(3)
_there are three types of classification..
_Town or cities or 1 class twin..it contains the no of population more than 5 thousand.
It consist about more than 60 percent of population lived in that towns.
_ metropolitian towns..it consist of population between 1 million to 5 million .
There are 53 towns come in that category .
_ megacities..it consist of population more than 5 millons.
6 cities Come under this .Mumbai,Delhi ,Kolkata ,Chennai ,bengaluru and Hyderabad.
It coveres 21 percent of urban population.

_ Mumbai (18,4 million).
13* name the total no of cities (1)

They may be port primarly engage in import and export activities.

towns and cities specilising in trade and commerce activities.

_mining towns..
These towns developed in minerals.
Example ankaleshwar, raniganj.
_garrison cantonment..
These towns emerged as for defence.
Example.. Amabala and jalandar
_educational towns..
starting as education centres.
example.. allagabad and varanasi.
Religious and cultural towns..
Sacred places
example.. mathura, amritsar and ajmer.

These are the towns which attractive people for holidays spend.
